So after doing a variety of lvl 4s and trying a few variety of ships, I still not quite sure whats a good number to shoot for using EFT to have a good tank. Need it to at least withstand most lvl 4s with warp scrams. I have a kronos now on my main with good amount of skills, tanks like 800 sustained but seems kinda overkill since I only use one rep majority of the time.
So yeah, just curious as to what numbers other people have for their lvl 4 mission runners. Thanks. |

EFT defense numbers are rather useless for estimating the tank you need in a mission, as they are based on your average resistances, which are irrelevant as you will usually face only a couple of types of incoming damage.
As you gain experience in running missions, you should use it and not EFT to fit your ship.
But to answer your question, EFT sez my golem can sustain 971 dps.

Valkyrie II x5 pretty much my setup(aside from some better mag stabs to up the dps another 40, which really does make bs go down faster) I aggress the entire room generally, and its still very rare i have to warp out, if you manage aggro like you should, you'll be fine
over 900 dps tank, and about 750(780 with faction magstabs) dps gank

Well, obviously you haven't found the button to configure the incoming damage. Don't blame the tool.
To OP: I usually configure for around 400-600ish peak tank based on the damage types and I never need to warp out of missions. Only time it's close is in the beginning in the AE extra room. But.. I can manage this only by having enough gank to get rid of whatever is hurting me fast enough. High gank, low tank is the way I deal with boredom in missions.

Evefit can never give you the whole picture.
The greatest thing that keeps you alive is skills. The finest ships can be lost because your engineering skills are not very good and to a lesser extent bad tactics when running missions.
A Dominix with the right active hardeners & tec2 armor tank will easily tank a dozen battleships. The only thing you need to worry about is maintaining cap & keeping yout 2 reppers running or shield booster. For missions like Pirate invasion Angels you will need dual reps initially to be safe even with a tec2 tank.
My advice would be to not be too worried about the figures you need but to concentrate more on a top quality tec2 armor or shield tank & always make sure you fit the right hardeners for the selected mission.

Flying a BS anything over 800 in EFT with your resists for the particular mission damage at least 75% or above will see you through most missions.

I'll go further and say 500 dps tanked permanently with some kind of buffer should be enough for all missions, if you have enough damage output. It's a rough estimation though.
