No idea if this has even been suggested but here goes....
ok some friends and i were discussing alliances etc etc... also the fact that it is very dificult for a new corp to get into an alliance... soooo...
We figure hey why not do a mother corp system. (Think like how coke a cola has sub componies that sell their own sodas). So essentialy the new corp would submit a request to be 'adopted' by a big corp. Or the big corp could ask them to become a sub corp by submitting a request.
Note: The would have to be some system to determine big vs small corp such as whether they have a pos or not or something....
What would then happen is the small corp would be brought under the mother corp. At which point they would essentialy be a part of that corp. Except they would still keep their corp logo and name. Then a percentage of all their incom would go to the mother corp so long as they were under the mother corp.
When the sub corp becomes big enough and is able to support themselves they may then break off the mother corp and become a seperate entity if they so choose. Or if a sub corp is being ubnocious and causing trouble then the mother corp may kick them if they so choose.
This would allow small corps to participate in things they would otherwise be unable to, such as major pvp battles etc etc. As well as give them a temporary support system and make them virtualy bigger even if they are not. So that way small corps won't automaticaly get ganked by big corps while hey are still attempting to form up.
Thoughts and suggestions?

its a logical progression in how corps interact. i wouldnt mind ahving a "buyout" system either. another corp can offer a set amount for the corp, each shareholder gets told how much ISK he will get if he agrees to sell it. effectively a hostile takeover system.
if successful, all the baught out corps members join the buying corp, and all assets become the property of the buying corp. - PvPers always say "GB2WoW". the message is that EVE is hard, and people just need to deal with it. wasn't it funny how when nano's started making it hard for *them*, that all went out the window? |

I would love for corps to be able to have subsidaries.
Well real corporations hold shares in others so I don't see why they couldn't do that with EvE corps -So says Xindi Kraid

I think something like this would be a great way to allow corporations to "merge" without the CEOs having to beg all their members to go submit applications to the new merger corp, and losing half their people in the process of merger. It's like the CEO could just go and sign up the whole corporation to the new corp at once. There should be a bunch of options: join as junior partner (keep corp name and CEO keeps power to leave), merge into corp B (all members and offices and assets transfer into corp B completely), and I can't think what else.

mutual association. people of either corp with certain roles can access the other corps stuffs, but otherwise they remain more or less separate. basically a poor mans alliance. - PvPers always say "GB2WoW". the message is that EVE is hard, and people just need to deal with it. wasn't it funny how when nano's started making it hard for *them*, that all went out the window? |

Edited by: JiWan Ti on 06/09/2008 10:52:04 well i think that would allow for to many issues of untrustworthiness.... it would be best just to leave it at the mother corp would get a portion of the sub corps income.... and then they could allow access one way or another as they see fit with options to allow/disallow access to specific stuff kinda like how you allow/disallow access to certain aspects of the corp to ur own members.... automatic full access would be real bad.... cause then what is to stop a small corp from becomeing a sub corp jacking everything and then leaving?
of course pehaps it would be possible to make all stuff return to the rightful owner automaticaly when the two corps break apart....

Great idea. It would lead to some thought on war decs though... perhaps having the cost per corp wardecced would be the answer there. ie if you wardec the Mother Corp, you have to pay for the subsideries too, but only wardeccing the lower-tiered corps, you pay standard fees. Having the mother corp able to pick up a free (or reduced cost) counter-wardec would be a good move too, to allow PVP organisations to have industrial subcorps that they could protect without having to spend a fortune.
All in all, a real life concept that could lead to some fun. Especially if they do introduce a stock market at some future point... having corps owned by other corps leading to a whole ball of yarn of "who really owns which corps". :)

not to mention it would also put an interesting twist on mercanary corps.... then you could make them a sub corp during the time you are hiring them and once the service you paid for is complete they break off on their own merry way to their next job....

now this is a neat idea.
i can see some of the big PvP corps making smaller corps under their wing. in excahnge for, say, 5% of all money going into any division of the corp wallet, they will fend off any wars targeted toward the smaller corp. - PvPers always say "GB2WoW". the message is that EVE is hard, and people just need to deal with it. wasn't it funny how when nano's started making it hard for *them*, that all went out the window? |

It seems this idea would also be RP-able. I dont think there is a corp in existence (in Eve anyway) that has the maximum number of members that your CEO can train for. Something like 5600 members in a corp!?!? I doubt there are alliances with that many members.
But, back to the point. It would be cool if you could create a subsidiary as well. For example, if you create a corp, start getting members and decide, "I think I'd like to recruit some researchers so my current corp can start making their own ships without having to skill for research." Then you create the subidiary corp, start advertising, maybe make an alt and there you go. You have your primary corp, your secondary support corp and everyone is happy. This is an idea I had a long time ago, but never posted about.
And back to the max number of members idea. If you had subidiaries, the CEO of the "mother corp" would have to be skilled enough to absorb the total number of members in all subsidiaries + mother corp. And this lends itself to another skill in the corp management tree: "Corporate diversification" - Plus 3 to the max number of subsidiaries that a Mega corporation can sustain, prereqs would be some of the CEO skills.
All in all a great idea. I think it would let all of these smaller 2-20 man corps finally be able to cooperate without losing their identity. Finally empire corps could make some headway where previously only 0.0 alliances could (maybe...)

i dunno perhaps it shouldn't count as apart of their number but rather a second number that you train for.... like +50 members in sub corp per level...

Probably the fact that they are actually nearing the maximum limit on corp sizeà
To the idea at hand, I think this is a good idea, perhaps serving as a stepping stone to alliances and alliance mechanics for newer corps. ùùùùùùùùùùùùùùùSigùùùùùùùùùùùùùù The magic behind Minmatar ships is the fact that there is only one type of Minmatar ship. The only variation is when they decide to stop building it. |

oh ok gotcha...
and ya thats kind of the idea... give the new corps a step up and benifit the mother corp at the same time so they will want to in the first place...

Your problem: it is hard for a new corp to get into an alliance.
My first question would be, why? You solution seems to indicate that you have trouble getting into an alliance because of game mechanics? In my experience its usually a problem of politics.
What you are describing is (for a large part) the same idea as entering into an alliance (you become part of a larget whole, but keep your name and logo, but can later break free etc.) I think your problem (if it is with game mechanics) would be better solved by modifying the alliance mechanic rather than creating a new mechanic. ____

Creating a separate mechanic allows for mixing of both systems.
I can think of cases where having the opportunity to link more closely with another corp, in an alliance or not, would be useful, say for logistics or merc work, as pointed out. For an alliance, it would give the chance for trial memberships and the like without standings issues and all the other stuff that comes up, and would make renters a simpler idea.

Isn't this how the renter politics work already? Renter corporations pay a fee to live under the protection of the space holder, in time they grow some balls and strike out on their own, are absorbed into the alliance they rent protection from or some of their more able pilots are at least.
It's nothing new, no mechanics needed for this really.

I would love that. Would at last let me merge my altcorp into main corp who unfortunately lacks the needed standings for empire tower.

actualy no its not how it works... the only way to do this currently is expensive and tedious with no support system... this would allow for ease of such a thing and make it more like real life corporation politics... and actualy benifit the mother corp and subcorp without all the extra hassle...

you need the new seperate mechanic to better fit the situation... and it would make it more like something you might have in real life. Sure componies make deals and such similar to an alliance but they also buy componies out and such as well... thus the sub corp mother corp system... and not only that but this allows for ease of merging as well when two corps decide to merge... there is also the fact that current politics do not in any such way suport new corps forming... and as for the mechanics they do not make it easy to merge, seperate or any similar option...
and besides this would add a very fun and interesting aspect to the politics of the game...

I could see more possibilities with this giving one of the upcomming expansions Ambulation.
With walk in Corp offices and whatnot it'd be interesting to see how this system could add some other interesting aspects... for example say you have your symbol up for you corp on a wall... you could then put smaller symbols underneath your main symbol showing which corp's are under your corp... perhaps this could be to show your power of who is under you and whatnot... but say someone wants into your corp but they don't meet the requirements... like someone pointed out earlier you can have a sub corp that they can join first and begin to become a part of your corp in the sub corp and eventualy move into your corp if they meet the requirements later... the symbols on the wall may make it easier for them to see who is who in the mother and sub corps... wow did that make any sense?
anyways, i feal this will do much to change the economy and allow smaller and newer corps to feal apart of the rest of the world of eve... and add nice aspects to the way wars work make easier corp merges if so desired and allow buy outs etc...
sorry just thought i'd bring this back up now that i have returned to the game... and see what people think now with the latest expansion and the upcoming expansions in 09...
