I want to thank CCP for continuing to NOT address the LAG issue in game. As a result, I no longer put in the play time with EVE because the game is unplayable on Sundays.
So, being that this continued LAG issue is not a problem, but a "random undocumented feature", I must thank them for this bonus to our beloved past time. I now have more free time on Sundays to do other things.
/sarcasm off
Yeah, I am not happy. I look forward to playing EVE on the weekends as I work full time during the week.
Seriously CCP, thank you so much for your continued work on the many issues that exist in game. This last patch resolved many issues, including many issues that were obvious bugs in the UI.
You have made a large step forward, but the LAG problems are what is holding this game back. Faction warfare, your latest marketing tool to increase subscriptions, is backfiring because of the LAG. LAG is what will kill this game above all else. Please do something positive and in the immediate future.

LOL, That totally made my day.
Yes, make more threads about LAG, good idea. The only way things seems to get addressed around here is if there is a large amount of threads complaining about the issue. Look at suicide ganking, nano complaints, etc...
CCP only changes things when there is a LOT of complaining.
So, it's long overdue to complain about VALID issues, such as LAG.
You don't want to contribute to more than one thread about a VALID issue, that's your decision.
If you do, I do welcome your positive discussion on the issue.

30 people in a system where the node (constellation) had less than 200 people. Is that overcrowded?

NOS changes, Nano changes, Suicide changes....they all resulted from multiple threads about various issues with those changes.
Lag is a valid issue that needs to be addressed. Until the community engages in the same activity, we may never see a positive improvement with the lag problem.

Make 1000 threads about it, like the NOS changes, Nano changes, Suicide changes.
CCP fixes the problem like the NOS and Suicide
Less lag for everyone.
Yup, sounds like a plan, get to it!!!

Myself and a couple friends spent 5 hours last night cruising around multiple losec systems, the local population being 3-10, never higher, and the lag was still really bad... This is because, the less populated systems share server nodes with other equally empty systems, meaning that actually, they aren't any better for lag, since the server nodes are cumulatively just as busy... BTW, to make it easy on myself, it now says IBTL in my sig. This is my sig. IBTL |

Immersive game play, as advertised, means that you play the game with in game knowledge only. If you must continually change how you play game because the game is not able to meet the demands of usage due, then it's not as fun.
"I won't engage in this 1 v 1 because it's a Sunday and my node only has 1 sever assigned to a logged in user base of 200 people."
Tell me, how is that fun? Why should I have to move to another system to have fun when the fun is in the system I am in?

You should feel blessed that you never see the lag.
It's not a consistent issue as lag will strike a node with 10 people on it or a node with 200 people on it.
You will encounter the EVE lag monster, it's only a matter of time.

Which is why I think they need to create spacial interference effects well before the 'lag' mark.
Solar storms, radiation waves, solar wind, passing comets, star discharges, the works.
Thousands of things could mess up a piece of high-tech machinery like a pod. CCP just needs to do more to explain it, in-game, to keep the immersion intact.

You know that CCP is constantely adressing lag issues? While the player base grows and is concentrated on a few systems [in comparism to the overall number of systems]. The ressources have to be concentrated and so the overall performance suffers...Tell me ONE MMORPG that does not experience lag, its a constant fight and if CCP would not work on it eve would truly be unplayable

No, they need to be able to dynamically scale nodes so that they meet user demand.
Scaling is not anything new, that what server clusters are for, scaling to meet demand. Microsoft SQL server 2007, the database backed that runs EVE, was designed to be to scale on demand to meet increased work load.
Still not seeing it happen, what gives?

It would be nice to see continual updates on what work is being done. As it stands now, no one really knows.
As for other MMO's having lag, yes, I am well aware. I am also well aware that other MMO's have FAILED because of the lag issues.
I do understand that it's a constant battle to meet user demand, but lately, CCP had been failing. They really need to get on the ball.

Because the users of which you speak are usually for just random database access and things that don't require substantial user to user interaction. In those cases, you add one person and the server does the same extra work as adding a second person.
When a 300th person enters a solar system, the server does 300 times the work. Try to find a cluster for that. _ |

LOL, "adressing lag" (= occasionally tell customers it's being worked on) is a cool euphemism. We don't need them to "adress it", we need them to fix it.
As for the "constant fight" ... The player numbers haven't really increased much in the past 6 months and I don't see any improvement with lag. How many new nodes have been added in 2008?
How to PVP: 1. buy ISK with GTCs, 2. fit cloak, learn aggro mechanics, 3. buy second account for metagaming

They are already working on upgrades on their end. however as anyone that works in I.T knows nearly 90% of problems have to do with a human being making a mistake or not having the proper knowledge to know what they are doing.
All I know is for me, playing on sunday is no different then playing on any other day. I fly around with no lag doing whatever I want.
Your probably just doing it wrong.

Adding nodes doesnt solve everything. in some cases, and i believe EVE has reached that point, its counterproductive.
At the moment theyre doing small stuff, optimising databases and all the other geek stuff they can, to streamline the system as much as possible, until such times as the Infiniband and supercomputer stuff theyre working on goes live.
There are a billion threads on this, and after a while they stopped getting answers simply because the same damned questions are being asked over and over.
There IS NO QUICK FIX.
if there was, they would of done it. (not because its good for eve, but because with working tech like that youre effectively sitting on a goldmine.)
Awful Lot of armchair experts here yelling FIX TEH LAGGZ, if its that easy, tell them HOW. Please. I'm sure theyll be delighted, if only cos it means theres one less thing for people to whine about.

Constellation ≠ node, so that tells you nothing.
