So, we all know about the Jovian Race. Not much, but we know they exist. They are pretty mysterious and not only that have badass ship designs. I love these guys and their sad story. Anyone who has read the backstory about the Jove know that they are truly superior in many ways. The only downside to the Jovians are their lack of large population. I think this is an excuse for us players to not be able to play as the Jovians, but one day I think there will be a "scientific breakthrough" increasing the population of the Jovians, allowing us, the players, to play as the Jovians. Just my theory for the distant future.
Question to you guys: If the Jove were a playable race, would you drop your current character to get a fresh start on this race? Or would you just use your current character to learn the skills needed to pilot their ships and use their weapons?
I know I would, simply because their backstory is simply the coolest, and there's still so much unknown about them. Not to mention the badass looking ships.

I would crosstrain. Or, if they made it a requirement to BE Jove to fly their ships, I would start a 4th account IF they turned out to be just as pwn as their story hints at. If they were simply another race with different attributes and a balanced set of ships, I wouldn't care.
Downside to them being pwnage is that every noob out there would pick them and we would have the new Caldari race being bald and sick, instead of just sick

It whouldnt be proper game balance to introduce jovians as they are in the storyline maybe they should offer players that have like over 100 mill sp to become Jovians or something to let them keep that storyline overpower.

Youre right, lets make them completely the same as the other 4 races and accesible to everyone from the beginning! Just like Jedis in SWG! Eh? Eh? Anyone?

DISCUSS THE JOVIANS!
TREALITY CHECK:
Jobians are the race that the DEVS PLAY when they are in-game doing dev things. When they're just playing EvE, they have separate accounts wsithout dev privelidges.
THEREFORE:
Players will not be able to play Jovians UNTIL AND UNLESS another "cover race" is created that the devs can use in-game. And that's not likely to happen anytime soon.
TL;DR.
Not gonna play as Jovians evah unless the devs change things quite a bit. So, FORGET IT. THIS THREAD IS POINTLESS.

Yeah, I know that. But that reason alone can't really be excuse enough to not let us play as them. and damn the devs for taking the cool race! __________________ EVE-Online. Love it? Hate it? Just play it! Or go back to Runescape. |

LOL - Only reason they're "cooler" is that you don't see 'em everywhere.
Looked at objectively, they're even uglier than Amarr or Caldari Archura. And THAT's saying something...
No thanks.

The Jove Empire is the only group of humanity that has come this far in New Eden unscathed since the collapse of the Eve Gate. They are obscenely powerful because they have had the 10,000 years since the collapse to develop their technologies, although the vast majority of their technology has not been in development because of their efforts to figure out what the Jove Disease is and to cure it.
Their ships are exceedingly powerful, and their presence is exceedingly rare. The Jove do not interact with the Empires except in extremely rare circumstances, and are kept out of reach of players deliberately. The intrigue of them is half the fun.
While it's fun to know of them, we really don't know much of anything about them. A lot the back story on the Jove has been held hostage to the printed word, and not all of us can afford EON subscriptions. There's really a whole lot more to be said about the Jove without spoiling the intrigue than we've been presented, and I wouldn't mind seeing a marked increase in the Jovian prime fiction.

Allright, here is what I propose...
A full scare assult on the entire Jove empire...
A suprise attack on anyone will knock em down a peg. We utilize the organization known as goonfleet, whom have suprior experince in using swarms of inferior ships to achive dibilitating victories. Use Goon Fleets commanders with Concord Hardware = Gooooon-Coooord-Doken!
But realistically, I have read a story somewhere that stated you can still go into Jovian space, just no one has come back after they went so far in.
Perhaps the Jovians no longer exist and its a big bermuda triangle?
The other side of me thing the Jovians were a plot device race used for "Quest" style serial mission into their space with a story line to follow. Eve, has since, gone in a different direction.
The Intakis have an obligatin to defend the Federation, but not to assult others on its behalf. |

The Jovians blew up the stargates connecting their space with the rest of the empires. Lore wise, we have little chance of getting into Jovian space. They did so because they are scared of the Enheduanni. That is why nobody has gone to Jovian space.

First, the only reason you think their ships are cool is because you don't get to fly them. Take away the status symbol it would be, and they're quite crap, with the exception of the Phantom. I just had to point that out.
Second, Jovians are a concept. The moment you turn them into a fifth race that anybody can use, they cease to have the same meaning. What does your race selection mean today, aside from starting stats? Absolutely nothing. It has no impact on your ingame performance, or faction standings.
Third, if EVE ever gets Jovian content, the Jovian race themselves will be exterminated. I believe the founders of EVE have a chronicle outlining the entire "story" and concepts of EVE and how everthing is connected. what we've seen so far is maybe 20% because prime fiction in this game moves at a geological pace, and is overall, completely irrelevant.
Pragmatically speaking, a Jovian expansion would most likely include opening of Jove space, new PVE/exploration content and components for another tech level. Considering tech 3 is based on ancient technology found in empire space, we probably have 3-4 years before they even start to consider this. My guess is EVE's 10th anniversary, long after we get ambulation and planetary interaction.
In the past, the idea was that if you ever mutated yourself into a Jovian, you'd have extreme side effects (like being on a bad booster trip, permanently) and the possibility of permadeath or severe skillpoint loss, in exchange for much higher learning stats.
I would say the best way to do Jovian stuff in this game is to hand pick players, put them into a ISD/CCP run corporation and give them guidelines. Things you can and cannot do, in addition to following the EULA. Its like giving players the ability to create events for other players, without necessarily being part of ISD. The consequence and mechanics of this decision I don't feel like outlining right now. But suffice is to say, the only way to keep the coolness integrity of Jovians is to make sure its not something you can get through grinding or time.

Your Race has one significant Impact in the game; Your Ceo's ability to have a mixed race corp, and the level of 'Ethnic Relations' required to run it.
Other than that your right, Race has no importance (though it is fun to tease smelly minmaters in local)
