My thoughts are definitely leaning this way.
The mindset of the mittani's followers is essentially that of a dictatorship that wants to be democratically elected. Fundamentally flawed from the ground up, and an element incompatible with the CSM process. They want to settle nothing democratically though.
They just want your cash over at Something Awful. When you have to pay money to join a rebellion, you have already been victimized by the movement. Ohh poor silly goon chillrens. Yes, there's a clear attempt by CCP to quiet this situation. In the beginning I agreed with it even to the extent of believing that what Mittens had done wasn't that much of a deal. However, when I started reviewing the alliance panel segment of fanfast, his apology and his post panel communications I concluded that he's a egomaniac that is only sorry that he was too drunk to realize he was leaving indisputable and recorded evidence of his behavior.
So, it's important that everyone who sees this situation for what it is and not what Mitten's, CCP and others would hope we would see it as keep bringing the few threads they've kept to the top of the forum. We want breast augmentations and sluttier clothing in the NeX! |

Every part of that apology can be thrown out the window by remembering that he is/was a lawyer, and that the slide in question was pre-prepared, it was not a drunk last minute addition, it was a purposeful vindictive act with the sole intention of getting a mass audience to laugh at some poor guys misfortune. He wasn't on the internet, he was at a conference with a clear goal before the first drink went past his lips. Suicide isn't a joking matter.
The only joke here is that he only got a 30 days ban, he should be looking at jail time. And the whole of Goons should have there entire network looked at by law enforcement to see how far out of game they take this sort of crap. The slide was not a breach of the EULA and was scrutinised by CCP and allowed to proceed. The comments made in the impromptu Q and A session were in breach of the EULA and were judged by CCP. As pertaining to the slide: If I remember the CCP blog about the situation they washed their hands of it stating they failed to scrutinize some content or specifically his content. Can't remember the exact specifics. But it allows CCP to distance themselves in case of legal repercussions. Why would they want to do that? Hmmm? The slide was a vehicle in the presentation to facilitate Mitanni's mocking of the guy who wrote it. It was included specifically to harass the guy, to make fun of the guy in the same manner that adolescents make fun of anyone they see as weak and defenseless. It's not like Mitanni was going to use it as a tool to discuss anti-bullying policies or the finer points of depression. There could only be one purpose which was exactly how Mittens used it. There was clear intent to use that mail, which I assume Mittens had been keeping for a few days or a few weeks or a few months, for the sole purposes of a mockery at a minimum. At the least that's bullying. That Mittens solicited thousands of people to help him make the guy commit suicide.....that you can't see this, that you're attempting to separate the communication from the behavior is just sad. So, the apology, stating drunkenness many times as the culprit, doesn't exactly work. Had a more tangible crime been committed, say a hypothetical assault and battery on someone, with previous communication from the victim in the perpetrator's pocket asking the perpetrator not to harm the victim....well....it would be a clear case of premeditation. No, the only reason drunkenness could be made to work as an excuse is that Mittens was too drunk to remember the proceedings were being recorded......that's the only fault it could be used to excuse.
yes, its premeditated is the point. you plan out a crime, then get drunk when you commit it, drunkenness wont save your ass when they find out it was planned from, the start

Subscription to "Something Awful Forums" is the first and primary way to be a part of Goonswarm: the corporation (see the difference?) Second being by sponsor of some member already in but doesn't mean you can get in.
So you don't have to pay to be part of, agree, whatsoever. Don't put all your eggs in the same basket. I don't agree with many things they do, but when they do something good for the game I can say it is. The thing that bothers me highly is the "how" they use to make things change, this "how" being "you" as a tool to achieve their goal but it's ok we can't agree on everything can we? |

Wrong.
Massively has nothing to do with CCP's standing policies or the actions of a player before the story is ever written. I'm not going to pretend to know CCP's motivations beyond their EULA/TOS. But, Mittens clearly violated it, apology not withstanding. That CCP waited until Massively reported the incident to ban Mittens has no direct correlation to their actions although, I'm sure it might have had an indirect influence but no more so than the outrage that exploded onto the forums.
Mitanni is lucky......LUCKY that he only got a 30d ban. Mittani needs someone to be able to point to someone and say "This is all their fault". It has nothing to do with the fact that he tried to push an individual outside of the game to commit suicide. It has nothing to do with his actions being as cookie cutter of a case of cyber bullying as you can get. No no, obviously this is all happening to him because people hate the goons and are butthurt about things going on in this game.
There are threads about him even on other game forums, being discussed by folks who don't give 2 craps about anything that happens in this game, and the response is basically the same. Any normal person who hears that an individual did this would be floored by the news. They don't have to play this video game to think he deserves more than a little slap on the wrist. And yet, that's all he got. And now he is mad that his real life name is tied to the word Cyber Bully? It isn't "The Mittani" who stood up in front of all those people. It was Alexander Gianturco, and that person deserves to be held accountable for their actions.
I'm sorry he hates the idea that there are consequences in this world and that he can't hide behind his screen name forever, but that's life. HTFU, because real life is a hell of a lot harder than this little playground we hang around in and no matter how much of a badass his pixels may be in EVE, it won't prepare him for what reality will do when he performs acts like that. |
