How CCP reacts to this shows whether they condone this level of behavior or not. If they do, at least we'll know what folks can get away with in EVE. Pushing for RL violence and death will become an acceptable tactic for dealing with your enemy. Sony'll love that when DUST hits won't they.. CCP might not give a toss for there public image...... others may not be so high on blow and hookers
Wonder if anyone bothered to let Sony know? lol How CCP reacts to the Mittani comments at fanfest will show whether they condone this behavior or not. If they do nothing, then obviously pushing for real world violence and death is an acceptable gameplay tactic to them and will open a whole new venue of strategy for us, the gamers. |

Well written, Alex.
You're still a terrible person, and an excellent candidate for Chairman for Life. You should be chained to that Chair position as punishment for being such a wanker. No, I didn't vote for you so feel free to ignore everything I say. The Mittani is the type of sadistic megalomaniac that every fiction universe needs as a common enemy to fight against, or the common great leader to ally under. I appreciate The Mittani as the villain of the piece, and I appreciate Alexander Gianturco a committed participant in our game.
Sure, Alex is a smug douchebag who I wouldn't afford a chair at my table if he was dying of starvation, and what he said at Fanfest was particularly stupid. But being so obnoxious in public lends more credence to the public perception of The Mittani as "Dr. Evil" and the Goons as Public Enemy #1. So really, being such a twit means that Alex is really doing the very best he can to give life to our virtual world.
In the context of the Goon internal communications channels, the joke the Alex made would have simply been one of any number of poor attempts at black humour which would be chuckled over until the next beer, and then forgotten. Attempting to share some of the Goon sentiment with the rest of the world via the Alliance Panel was probably a bad move, and I'd advise Alex to get a more straight-laced and sober person to review the presentation notes before heading into the Alliance panel.
So the community has had their chance to rage. This has really spoilt my enjoyment of a great Fanfest production, and I'd really like to get back to telling CCP how wonderful they are and basking in the glory of the upcoming patch, Dust 514, Direct X 11 tessellation, and ring mining. |

Because comments related to a video game are obviously on the same level as trying to convince a man to kill himself in real life.

It is because CCP has taken different approach than other MMO's: they have allowed it in their game, while in some other games you would be banned right away when calling someone 'stupid'. I'm 100% sure that many of these posters who come here to cry about The Mittani and his actions have actually done similar things themselves. That is hypocrisy, my friend.
The Mittani has done well in CSM and was re-elected with massive amount of votes. Serving the 'greater good' in this case would mean him continuing in his position. Everyone does mistakes, everyone slips at some point, but one certainly shouldn't be crucified for that. Especially if he can make many other things better for a big bunch of people. |

Ultimately though with the bad press etc, CCP will probably have little choice but to remove him from the CSM. However in light of the apology I hope that he does not receive a permanent ban from the game. You didn't see the event but you want him to resign? That is the nature of the mob. Sometimes the few or even the one must be sacrificed to serve a greater good. Probably because he as many others are butt hurt that he won the CSM chair again, and that he had so much support in his campaign for it. There is also a large dose of jealousy in this thread because he got where he is because of the people putting him there, and are using this to try and get him deposed. |

Good grief.
The man was hammered. He has apologised profusely. Real arrogance would have been not to do so. Quite a few of you here are are doing exactly what you accuse The Mittens of doing, right here in these forums, in your own way. The Judge, Jury and Executioner.
What The Mittens said was a terrible thing. He admits that, he apologises and there's more that has happened in the background to remedy the situation between him and the victim than you will ever see in these forums.
But he cannot really apologise, can he ? If he does, he's just covering his backside. If he does, he's just trying to save his Chairmanship. There's nothing he can do or say in these forums that will please those of you seeking blood, is there ? Oh wait, you want him to resign, or to be banned. Yeah, let's destroy another life whilst the opportunity exists. Afterall, it's his own fault is it not ?
Shame on you. Those of you with those thoughts are sober, well, most of you are. The Mittens was not, that was blatantly evident. That's not an excuse, it's part of the situation leading-up to this incident.
Here you are though, beying for blood, for "justice". Shame on you. I'm sober, sound of mind and lived long enough during hard times to say this to you who are crying from the rafters :-

Whilst all very true, the problem is that his comments were made out of game at a official CCP Event.
An Official Event being transmitted live to thousands of people with CCP employees present,
I'm no expert but something tells those people who have millions of dollars invested in CCP would not appreciate the amount of negativity publicity currently on the internet, neither would CCP partners such as Sony and Nvidia, especially considering the topic in question is so prevalent in today's media and with the growing band wagon of people who are trying to blame computer games for kids running riot.
Why do you think CCP has a rule that you can not post kill mails, eve mails and chat logs for the sole purpose to mock and humiliate people?
CCP know there is a line that can not be crossed, unfortunately for Alex he did cross this line.
I do have a lot of sympathy for Alex, He does not deserves the amount of real life vilification he has received. It was a dumb misguided action made worse due to him being drunk.
I have no sympathy for CCP as I can not believe that somebody didn't think of just giving the presentation slides a quick once over just to make sure they were no crossing any lines, considering the reputation that some of the alliance members leaders have and also that they were stinking drunk as well. |

I imagine when he goes looking for his next job, his future employers will launch a google search on his name, and when this pops up, he'll at least have some explaining to do.
Which is why I believe this apology is sincere :) |
