Edited by: Slade Trillgon on 12/09/2008 21:24:18 This has been happening for years if not eons. The fact is that many of the techniques used for dropping weight in individuals with severe eating disorders, are much more devastating to the female body. Men can afford to be less then 8% body-fat for extended periods of time. Women start to compromise their hormone systems when they start to drop below 15-13% body fat and that wreaks havoc on their whole biological system. The detrimental effects of this occur much sooner for women then men and are much more sever in women then men. This is why that this diagnosis has gone relatively unmade for many years within the male population.

Didn't bother reading the article, but to the people in the thread posting about the BMI: The body mass index is a piece of shit. It only takes into account height and weight - not body fat percentage. All those ripped dudes you see on infomercials, fitness models, bodybuilders, whatever - the majority of those are "obese" according to the BMI. It's pretty much worthless tbh.

More than likely.
I saw some dude at the train station the other day. He was wearing skin tight jeans, some weedy hoody and had the greasiest hair you can imagine stuck to his face.
Converse All-stars lowtops, some backpack with biro pen all over it at some little buttons that said "say no to nuclear".
He was so obscenely thin you could tell he was like ... super-octo-uber-vegan; those people that dont eat anything that isn't classed as an animal-safe aerosol.
Yet he seemed proud to show off his pencil-like physique with his skin tight clothing.
Initial instinct was to push this weak individual onto the tracks...

Pretty sad about male Anorexia getting more common.
On the topic of metrosexuals, they may look feminine but its get them the girls and I feel you should never judge a guy for the angle he uses to get laid (except using rohypnol).

BMI is a ridiculous measurement for fitness. Muscle tissue is more dense than fat, so your BMI would actually go UP as you became fitter and fitter.
Anyway, I don't care about my appearance. I know I'm a stunningly gorgeous specimen of manly goodness, so I don't need to worry about it. __________________________

It is not really more common. It is just that it is actually getting diagnosed more frequently, because the group known as "metrosexuals" is taking it to the point that they are entering the metobolic state known as ketosis.
Many bodybuilders, wrestlers, jokies, boxers, and a plethora of other male professionals use, and have used for many years, anorexic practices at certain points of their active seasons.

The other silly thing is you can also have an average (or above average) amount of muscle, just have no fat reserves so are considered underweight.
Also I thought all men were naturally narcissistic but apparently not.

Male anorexia and bulimia disorders have always existed, just that it these aren't as widely recognized as female eating disorders so you have these articles pop up periodically to give wider exposure to these issues. Now we have media and photoshop, easy access to TV, magazines, and internet. In ancient times there was religion with its great fasts so if you wanted to be right, moral, in control of yourself, and ultimately perfect, you could starve body just as well (but no one would write an article about you).

I thought America still used imperial measurements? It seems odd that you've never heard of stuff being weighed in stones. __________________________

Honest. You know, because its so much more different than normal Anorexia.
Tbh I think Male Anorexics are those dudes that haven't yet had the pleasure of a Sirloin Steak, medium rare.
****.
Steak jonesing levels now at critical.
Either that or Vegetarians, but I won't go there... I honestly do not understand vegetarians but then again they probably don't understand how I can happily gnaw on the roasted backside of a baby cow or a succulent rack of BBQ ribs.
I personally couldn't give up tender Cumberland Sausages with their delicate combination of herbs, accompanied by exquisitely hand-mashed potatos made from the finest Maris Piper 'taters, doused in Onion Gravy and assisted by hand-picked minted peas, freshly boiled in spring water from the most virgin springs in the scottish highlands.
Food is awesome.

Actually, it is just called Anorexia, the media just uses that hype word. The only differintiation between the two are how the male and female body react physiologically to the lack of calories.
Like I pointed out above.
Boxers, wrestlers, martial artistist, horse jockies, divers, jumpers, and bodybuliders etc., suffer from various forms of disordered eating. The problem is that it is just so much harder to detect in males, since the male body does not react as adeversely as the female body.
Central Region Eating Disorder Service US Navy has a good explanation
Assessing the percentage of male athletes suffering from either anorexia or bulimia proves even more difficult than in the general population due to a myriad of factors that include: methodological limitations from the current literature, assessments that rely on self-report, and lack of uniform criteria across studies (Murphy & Gutekunst; Patel, Greydanus, et al.).
I could go on forever on this topic, since my primary point of research in grad school was on the the topic of diordered eating, but I believe my point has been made.

Just look at it, I will wash myself down with it and sprout a vagina! But she decided she liked it and kept throwing my wash cloths out!
Its not bad, it EXFOLIATES!
Heh. Those are Loofas.
I've been using one of those for a while now. Frankly, I never liked washcloths because they weren't rough enough. I never felt like I was really getting clean. Loofas, while they have a stupid name and look wimpy, are MUCH rougher. I can FEEL them scraping the grime off of me. It's a MUCH more manly sensation then that soft, floppy washcloth. Also, you can balance out the poofiness by just getting a black one! Combine that with some Old Spice Red-Zone body wash, and you are ready to go!
