I don't get what that YC or whatever it is year system is supposed to be.
Could someone explain it?

Take the real world year :like 2008, substract 1898 years, and you get the YC : 110

In-character, the EST (Earth Standard Time) system was decided on a conference. The difference is 23236 years to our calendar (.
Out of character EVE time is (as mentioned above) GMT* -1898 years, with 105 EST = EVE Online launch = 2003.

YC = Yulai Convention, the the event that marked the creation of CONCORD and the drawing up of the interstellar treaties that form the framework around which the modern political landscape of New Eden was built. One of the first things that happened there was an establishment of a dating system based on Earth's. It has been 110 earth years since the Yulai Convention, hence the present year being YC.110.
Calling it AD.23,346 is also valid in-character. Otherwise, the months and days are identical. You could write the date I'm writing this on (September 16th) as YC.110.9.16 or as 16.9.23346

To go into more detail, the YC in the date 110YC actually stands for "Yoiul Conference", where 110 years ago the four major sovereign powers signed the Yulai Convention, which established a standard clock that all four empires would reference from known as "Eve Standard Time (EST)" and was the cornerstone for the formation and management of the CONCORD assembly.
CONCORD is split into three Divisions, the Inner Circle who act as CONCORD's top advisors, the Directive Enforcement Department, CONCORD's police force, and the Secure Commerce Commission or SCC which governs trade. Their headquarters (now destroyed) was built in Yulai as a neutral staging ground between all four empires for diplomatic communication, negotiation and to allow all four of the major Sovereign powers to have representation in the Inner Circle's chamber, where CONCORD's policies and regulations are created and managed. However in recent years the Inner Circle's members have tended to rise through the ranks of CONCORD itself, so as to keep a relatively unbiased and neutral group running the organisation.

Why would the date 23,000-something be used in-character? I can imagine that maybe the Amarr would use it since their religion is evolved from Catholicism, but the main issue of that is the fact that their religion seems to have atrofied the concepts of Jesus and whatnot.

My question also.
It's never been explained by CCP, nor documented in PF afaik, yet the date "AD" has been mentioned in several news items that i recall from memory.
Would like some clarification on this myself.
