Thanks for the kind words/flames. Had a few people commenting on why i chose that setup.
Here was the problem:
I need a HIC with a mwd, a web, and 2 sensor boosters able to sustain a perma run meidum rep .
Devoters out (3 mid slots only). Onyx is out (mid slots for tank). Broadsword is out (mid slots for tank)
So its the phobos:
If you run an active tank. you have to drop one of my tackle requirements to fit the cap injector.
- So I can drop the web (any ship with an mwd gets away)
- I could drop the sensor booster (any ship smaller then a bs gets away)
- I could drop the mwd (cannot get the initial speed burst to kill the nano hacs who mwd away from gate)
An active tank also goes down like a sac of crap when neuted. Off go the reppers. Off goes the mwd. Off go the hardners. Off goes the warp disruption field. And your reduced to clicking inject and trying to get a desperate couple of reps off in between neut cycles. With sentry guns and only a small amount of enemy fire on you you go pop.
So an active tank, whilst cookie cutter, simply isn't an option when creating the perfect low sec tackler.
So we switch to a heavy soak tank. 3 faction eanms and a damage control provide nearly the same resistance as three actives and do not require cap (neuts are not a problem). 2x Long range nos (19km) enables you to keep your setup pretty much running permanently from a safe range (IE out of hot dropping scorp web range )
I stand by that setup being the best low sec tackler in the game. Combined with a corpie in an abaddon it had over 1000 kills, and could grab pretty much anything.

IF YOU HAD SHELLED OUT FOR THEM YOU MIGHT OF SURVIVED.
Also, I paid BDCI to do this, after you pooh poohed my thread.

good story skunky, but you didn't tell it all!
I think the most important part of the killmail got left out.
Critical (or maybe not so, lol) to the whole situation was a damage inc. member who happened upon this hotdrop. Clearly his 56 damage contributed, and presence on the killmail was worth the rapier loss to the moms.
Now we have a lovely kill for posterity on our board (not the only skunk kill mind you).
Anyway, pretty sad you lost your (perfectly tanked) lowsec ganker. You'd been flying that thing for quite awhile.
Now back to smartbombing to get more isk for another?

I try to keep a tale to one post so as not cross the line into droning on, so edited many parts not relevant to the kill out, including the sentry guns, corp names, damage types and indeed the 53 damage rapier. There are many subtales in this story, but not suitably of interest.
I could have drawn attention to the sentry guns nearly out damaging a MOM for example, and used this to poo poo the "BOOST SHENTRYS" brigade.
I could have drawn your attention to the dire state of BDCI, a once proud corp, the shockingly lean state of their killbord, and the leaks from their private forum infighting.
I could have pointed out the BDCI jump freighter my corp dispatched only a month before. A pilot who invested 5 billion isk in a freighter that could cyno safely thorugh low sec.... then decides to save on fuel and jumped though a gate manually
008.08.07 16:45:00
Victim: Sky Venture Corp: Body Count Inc. Destroyed: Anshar Security: 0.4 Damage Taken: 308454
Also of note is the fact that on the BDCI kill board, the aeon pilot states he "forgot to pick up the loot" to his nyx colleague, despite my alt clearly seeing him scoop it whilst trying to pop my wreck, and indeed scanning it out in his cargo whilst checking his fittings. Honor among.. er.. non thieves eh?
The rapier pilot I left out of the tale but his story is here: This pilot didn't "happen apon" a hotdrop. He had been in system for three days before and three days afterwards, dropping probes and the suchlike but never daring to engage.
Seeing two mother ships tackling me and fighter bombing me gave him the courage to uncloak and let off a salvo of fire to try to sneak onto the killmail, which he duely did causing an intense 56 damage.
Like all good tales, this one has an unhappy ending. His rapier was popped by the motherships as soon as they had dispatched me, despite his desperate cries of
"NOOOO... IM HELPING YOU......."
In local.
Thus 6 days of lurking left him in his pod, with only a hijacked copy of a killmail to print out and put on his wall.
Theres a message in there for the kids.
Instead my tale was based around karma, and inteneded to remind peeps sometimes you kick, sometimes you get kicked :)

Edited by: z0de on 20/09/2008 21:07:36 Excellent tale. I would have left out the crow killing epeen multiplier but it was short enough that it didn't ruin the post.
Post more and kill the moms.
.:edit:. Just saw its about karma, I still think it could have been left out.

Hilarious story. If it wasn't BDCI moms it probably wouldn't have been as funny, but BDCI never fails to deliver.

oh skunk....here we have another case of the ancient internet problem.... I should have included much smilies in my post.
I found it just as hilarious as you did that the rapier snuck on the killmail.
The moms' damage was also pathetic, I agree.
Thanks for telling the whole story...I obviously got it from the other side.
I just thought it a point of minor interest that damage inc. was involved, though not in any significant way (apart from rapier loss).

Nice story, but I do have one question: you said that 'we' started to kill it and judging from your setup you were obvioulsy not alone, so what happend to your gangmate(s)? Did they try to engage the motherships or did they pull a prudent GTFO? -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |
