His argument suggest that all of one side of the argument is dragging CCP through the mud but that argument is flawed on two accounts. 1) The vast majority would not have taken the argument outside of this forum (public viewing). 2) It takes at least two to have an argument, so by the ops reckoning both sides are at fault yet he's being biased by claiming it's only one side. Edit: A lot of what is happening might not have happened if CCP had acted sooner. Normally in investigations you suspend someone during the investigation (in this case from the CSM), not do the investigation before deciding.
Mittani has posted a couple of times since his return, all of them in the thread that he created. Once to make the apology and once to announce one of his steps was taken. He knows what he did was wrong and since then he has gone to make right with the correct facilities.
What has the general public done in that time? How many threads have been locked since Friday? How many people have needlessly contacted WIS? How many people are telling CCP how to do their job right now?
Like you say, it takes 2 to tango. In this case we have 3; Mittani, Goons, and the general public. One has already gone to sit down, the other 2 have turned the dance into a mma brawl. Nobody who has posted, including myself, has the right to think they are a saint here. Point your fingers all you want, just make sure you are pointing one at yourself also.
Like I said, never underestimate the power of stupidity in large numbers.
Each post just further illustrates his point. Do you smell what the Lock's cooking? |

It could be argued that's exactly what Mittens did last year (dragging CCP's dirty laundry to the media and whoever would listen) to put pressure on CCP during the Incarna debacle.
Double standard?
At the end of the day, no matter how much hand-wringing or crap-slinging is done on either side of this present issue, CCP is going to make the decision that best suits them and protects their bottom line.

You do know the incident that the mittani was talking about was in the ice interdiction goons did.

And again, this is entirely missing my point. If mittani did something wrong or not, is not what this thread is about. Thats what the other 500 threads are about.
My question to you is this. Does what Mittani said: give YOU the right to take the victim and shove him up on stage and make an example out of him? give YOU the right to abuse CCP's business relationships in order to provoke your desired outcome? I could not tell you and I doubt you could not tell me either. As for those silly enough to start new threads on the subject, CCP have been warning them and on some occassions a forum ban.

Double standard? Let me just get this right... You're comparing the sale of 90 dollar monocles, with suicide. I'm not defending Mittani's past or recent actions at all. Thats not the point of this thread. My point is it doesnt give you the right to abuse CCP, The Wis, and the Eve Community, to provoke the outcome you desire. Precisely right, you shouldn't have to consider the out of game consequences like that, I've had my run ins with depression but I've never brought it into the game and used it to garner sympathy in any way, in fact I've taken a step back from the game while I got myself sorted in RL, which is what I would suggest to anyone I hear making claims of self harm.
In the end, this was indescretion. I'm quite disappointed by it from someone leading the CSM and would hope that people have a little more diplomacy in future in public, but this is taking on the appearance of a real witch hunt now. Opinions have been expressed countless times on either side, I'd rather go play the game now. WoW holds your hand until end game, and gives you a cookie whether you win or lose. EVE not only takes your cookie, but laughs at you for bringing one in the first place... |

I've come to realize that most Eve players are a bit off. Some would say being odd is requisite in a game such as ours.

I completely agree with Terminal. The whole situation is being blown way out of proportion, how many times a day do you think some neckbeard tells some hisec bear to go kill themself, or posts shock pictures in local, or continually and personally harrasses other members. EVE is the only game I know of where the greatest thing you could possibly accomplish is causing somebody else to ragequit the game. The only reason it's such a shitstorm is because The Mittani is a brand name, same reason everybody throws a fit when Miley Cyrus does drugs. Everybody does drugs every day, and body gives a ****. But people whine now because they have a name to pin their tears to. Nobody cares what the Mittani said, every single person who is posting demanding his removal is doing so for purely selfish reasons. You can bring up the argument that the Mittani himself advocated spreading the story to major media outlets for Monoclegate. But that did not do or threaten to do any damage to CCP's relations with other companies, in this case Sony. Nor did it bring more attention to somebody's personal life/mental health issues. Same concept as the teacher bringing the fat/socially awkward kid to the front of the class to tell everybody to stop bullying him. These issues should be dealt with in private. Aside from that, if you're suicidal, then why the **** are you crying about it to the EVE community. May as well go to 4chan for emotional support at that point. The Wiz should know better and more than anything it just sounds like a whine for attention. |

If any of you were concerned with The Wis you would have taken it up privately with CCP and The Wis. By smearing his private life across the public stage you are exposing The Wis to far more abuse then The Mittani and goonswarm EVER did. Sure, Mittani may have already smeared it infront of a [b wrote:FANFEST camera, who's audience is pretty much purely Eve players[/b]. But what the rest of you have done is taken it MUCH further. You've now taken it onto every news site, twitter account, and facebook page you can find.
I bolded a part where I believe you may be wrong. I read somewhere that several hundred thousand PS3 players also watched the fanfest feed.
That being said, I agree with you. This may turn out badly for The Mittani but our community has taken a hit in this scandal.
CCP doesn't need any bad publicity right now as it claws its way back from last year's debacle and readies itself to release DUST.
I hope this blows over quickly.

If you are willing to argue from personal experience, I would accept it. Have you been in the position or a professional psychiatrist to know the symptoms and how to understand people who are in psychological distress? You do understand that videogames are one of the main modern outlets for those of severe depression and people make threats of it subconsiously to grasp to get some sense of compassion. Eve it backfires, but it does happen, and peeps need to understand that, if they aren't willing to respect or care, well, it is a video game so am glad those that don't care are about as important as the dirt that catches in my shoes. |

You all say its hurting the game's reputation? You're the ones who smeared it across every news site you could find. CCP would have handled the situation in private where they could show The Wis the dignity he deserved.
You have now started to search for ways to deliberately abuse CCP's industry relationships. If the abuse of the Wis isnt enough, many of you are now in violation of the EULA by deliberately damaging CCP's business in order to further your selfish in-game goals.
Anyone deliberately dragging CCP's name through the gutter in order to accomplish their in-game goals should be held equally accountable for their violations of the EULA. I hate the Goonswarm, but I agree with you. Despite what Mittens said, nothing is worth destroying the game we love. Especially not after such an AWESOME FanFest. That being the case, I do think CCP will have to do SOMETHING about CSM7, or nothing will get accomplished by the CSM this year (due to lack of respect/trust/what-have-you). |

The speed with which it has spread is about the same as when CCP went into the luxury clothing business .. difference between the two instances is that the idea of a company loosing touch with its customer base and/or game is infinitely worse for 'business' than a drunkard forgetting that inhibitions are there for a reason.
Eve Online will very likely experience a small surge as the shenanigans/videos from FF are seldom displayed as prominently as it is now that one of us put his foot in his mouth up to his knee. What CCP ought to do is accept it for what it is and encourage the various "news" outlets to link to all the other FF videos .. milk that ***** for all its worth! |
