After spending the last year training purely to use the megathron the news on the web nerfs made me a sad panda .
Having all skils geared towards a single ship doesnt give me anything I can instantly branch out to, so I figure now is the time to change while I can still use my ship effectively getting something good in the kitty for when the change hits. However I am very indecisive, and there are a few ships I was looking at to train to replace my megathron in small gang warfare.
The Rokh: Mostly because I already have very respectable hyrbid skills and nothing in any of the other weapon systems its decent tank, decent gank, very decent range are also appealing. I have flown with some good Rokh pilots in the past and they left a good impression.
OR!
The Abaddon: Already have the armour tanking skills and the supporting gunenry skills necessary to use it well, so there is only a month or so gap before I have use it to an -acceptable- level, and about a 3-4 month gap till I can fly it with T2 guns and battleship V.
Or I could do something wild and crazy and train to use HAC's, Recons or HIC's of a race.
I know that Caldari have the best HIC and recons whilst Amarr have the best Logistics and HAC's. If I wasnt flying a HAC, I could put that races weapon skills as a backseat and not worry too much about lacking in them till they are fully trained because the other ships job isnt to damage.
If I flew a races T2 cruisers I would probably get their battleship aswell, so its all very complicated to me.
Lets hear some opinions in whats most fun or usefull at the moment to fly and help me get my mind fixed on a goal!

Well, gank over tanks I say, so go for Rokh. Shiled skilsl are easy to get into, really.
Lasers are cool tho, and good damage. I guess it boils down to prefernce. But why is the mega so bad, really? You can still fly it effectively even tho web being nerfed?

Along with the nerf to MWD that are coming with the changes to webs it looks to me as though I will find people quite easily ABing out of range, along with Arazu's and Lachaies being a common place on the battlefield to neutralise peoples MWD's. I dont want to be stranded 40km out of a fight having to slowboat it at 130m/s.
I have played around with a bunch of fits, and basically a megathron needs blasters to fill a job better or on par with battleships filling the same niche. Also active armour tanks without a resistance ship bounus I always found to be redundant compared to EHP tanks or active shield tanks, which is good in a way because running a MWD with an active tank is never a fun venture!
It isnt about being able to fill a role, its being able to fill that role to the best of your ability and how your fleet needs you because your opponents will be doing the same.

Seeing as a mega currently hits stuff outside web range pretty well despite the tracking hit from using NULL I'm not too worried tbh.
Frigates may become unhittable (spelling?) if they manage to survive the closing in but that's what drones and gangmates are for. -- I'm done whining about AFs, it looks like they are making them right \o/ |

Don't listen to the nano-drama-queens. Yes, you won't be able to hit be able frigates with your blasters - use drones. But blasters are still the premium DPS weapons (along with torps), and the speed nerf won't hurt you that bad. I'm actually planning to train Gallente next, simply for the blasters. --------

Amarr = best pure gank, more limited support options.
Caldari = second-best pure gank, awesome support options.
Gallente = awesome EFT dps, terrible real-world dps, only ships worth flying are the Arazu (if the webscram boost happens) and Dominix.
Minmatar = awesome ships, terrible weapons. Only ships worth flying are the Sleipnir (Nighthawk and Absolution are impossible to fit), Broadsword, Rapier (though as a support ship, not a solo pwnmobile) and Vagabond (though much weaker post-patch).
So unless you want to be stuck with a tiny number of non-sucky ships, train either Amarr or Caldari. If you're sure you want to focus on the pure gank role (which is very good in fleets), train Amarr. Otherwise, train Caldari and keep your options open.
