In fact, there are many areas of space that have what are called "nebulae clusters". These clusters not only vary in size and density but color as well. There are nebulae that have several solar systems within them and are surrounded by hundreds more with nebulae nearby that have other solar systems within them. So yeah...

no doubt, and personally I wouldn't mind if there are some systems that are located within nebulae clusters.
but when every single damn system in eve is trying to burn your retinas out, it gets annoying quick. |

What is up with the raging? I just do not understand it. If EVE looks like such ****, find another MMO that looks as good. Sure, the ship textures aren't perfect, but the lighting effects are pretty ****ing awesome, and all the celestial bodies (stars, planets, etc) look about as spotless as I could ask for. Where's the love? |

If I understand your post correctly, you need to get out of empire more often. When I check troll in the dictionary, it has a photo shopped picture of you standing somewhere in the vicinity of a point.

So there are definitely good reasons to consider moving to DX-11. Of all of them tessellation is lower on the list for me in terms of bang for buck. It makes for awesome demos but can be an artwork nightmare. So it could be a lot of churn for a relatively small improvement in appearance.
I'd be a lot more interested in down level hardware support, improvements in GPU management, compute shaders and better texture compression.
So I think DX-11 is a great goal, but I agree I'd make it lower priority over other game improvements.
Note, this is my thoughts and in no way represent the CSM 7.

The reason why EVE could see DirectX11 in the near future is possibly because the hardware makers are constantly looking for partners who are able adopt this technology early. Many games still use low-res bounding boxes for collision detection while the graphics technology is advancing faster than it is good for these game engines. If you ever wondered why you cannot shoot through a transparent surface or why you get stuck at invisible corners, then it is because of exactly this difference and the resolution of bounding boxes and environment meshes being lower than the graphical resolution. DirectX11 pushes the difference further. Or imagine standing on a DX11 tessellation landscape and wanting to walk around on it. You do not only want to see every bump, but you would want to interact with it (stand on it and not hover above it or being stuck in the ground). Games where a collision detection is rarely needed will be able to utilise DirectX11 early. Makers of FPSs and RPGs, where every inch and millimetre counts in creating more realism and immersion might hesitate. However EVE Online does not care about precise bounding boxes and CCP could use DirectX11 to render every spaceship and station with the highest resolution possible. |

Because updating the engine to DX11 would fix several of these things? And would also make fixing the other things a whole lot easier? Don't worry about posting with your main! -aPost with your brain! "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity." |

Being able to run on old hardware ( backwards compatibility ) is what almost killed Apple before Steve came back. Backwards compatibility is also the very thing that makes Windows such a giant lump, which is something that will be corrected in Windows 8 ( shame about the TOTALLY RIDICULOUS design though ).
EVE has been able to run on quite low end machines ( even an old Pentium 4 with 1.5 GHZ could run it ) for far to long, it's time CCP started benefiting from the excellent hardware available today, rather then yesteryear. I think they should make DX11 and Windows 8 minimum for this game. We don't need DX9 and Windows XP anymore.
Seriously though, I think they should fix flashing station textures before adding new effects. |

Jessy Berbers wrote:It seems you have no idea what a DX11 client would ACTUALLY do, do you?
Clearly not a semblance of an idea, a DX11 client would give CCP actually a chance to build a whole new client from scratch, and thus able to tackle every little single thing you describe just there, as the DX11 client requires pretty much remodeling EVERYTHING..
Greets
Jessy.
it doesn't require any remodeling. Eve online ships already each have a highpoly 3-4 million poly model they use the bake the normal map. This same map can be used to create a displacement map. A main feature of DX11. |
