Edited by: Xasz on 18/09/2008 19:50:52 I hate to necro old topics, but I recently started running it off a usb stick on more "public" computers (i.e. no admin access). On starting EVE I'm met with a command prompt and the popup
Quote: Failed to find an install of d3dx9_35.dll. An attempt was made to run the installer for this file but this doesn't seem to have addressed the problem. Possibly the current user does not have pivileges to install software onto this computer. Do you want to continue? Yes/No
If I click "yes" it just gives me the same popup no matter how many times I click it, and "no" just closes it.
Normally, this would be associated with not having the latest version of DirectX installed, but according to this DxDiag dump, I have version 9.0c, the version required for EVE. Is there a way to bypass the DirectX check on starting EVE? I'm missing valuable training time while the computer I'm on is perfectly capable of running the program. I'll try to file a bug report, but I wasn't sure if this was a bug or a "feature."
Please help, dieing without my EVE fix

EVE uses a newer version of the DirectX SDK, as such it requires new redist files - you can grab and install that file and it should run perfectly.
Shout if it doesnt.

That explains EVE failing to run the webinstall.
However, if you can unpack that file - go to the folder and paste the required dll's into system32, if you can modify OS files or write to the folder it should be fine to just add the d3dx9_35.dll.
Ideally however, you want to install it.

I have no permissions to directly copy the offending dll to system32. Do I have any recourse? Am I stuck out of EVE?

Unless you can get an admin to install then yes, pretty much. Not really new news either, been like this for a long, long time -------------------------
