Why is 5 the highest a skill level can go? I don't think there should be a cap on the highest you can raise a skill, and then some people will be able to specalize even more.
Some people don't believe it's worth taking a skill to level 5, but if the time wasn't TOO long I'd consider taking skills to level 6 and above..
What you think? _________________________________________________________

I've always thought that would be interesting; however, it does make balance a bit more of an issue. And rather than level 6 and up skills, they tend to simply give us advanced versions of the skills. eg. Mining & Astrogeology. This is actually better cause you get the same bonus as you would with lv 6 of mining for Astrogeology 1, but in FAR less training time. ---

i would really like to train level 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and so on of my specialty. some people might get carried away though. imagine navigation taken to extremes, or high speed maneuvering.

Edited by: Drahcir Nasom on 19/06/2004 02:15:14 Think about the training times though. The difference in training times between levels is a factor of 5.656 (sqrt(32)), so a skill which takes 25 days to get from lvl 4 to 5 would take over 141 days (4.7 months) to get from 5 to 6, and then 800 days (2yrs 2mnths 7days approx) to get from 6 to 7. If people are complaining that 25 days is too long to train for that extra 2% or 5%, imagine what they'd say if it took them 800 days to get their bonus from 12% to 14% or 30% to 35%, they just wouldn't do it.
Drahcir
p.s. the skill taking 25 days from 4 to 5 would take 396 years to train from 9 to 10

Way the hell back in beta, you could train a skill up to level 8.
Seeing as it would take around a month to get a rank 1 skill to level six... then around five months for level seven... then two YEARS for level 8.... Yea, one can see why it was scrapped.
uhh... I'm allowed to say this, right?

why not as following: rank (1) up to lvl 5, when you have lvl5 it will continue as rank (2) up to lvl 5 etc. etc. .... ?

Cause training to level 20 wouldn't take very much time (2 months?) and that would be kinda... Too much. Imagine guns hitting for twice the damage or miners at 180m3/min (per laser), apocs with 16000 cap...

Well, maintaining the current logic, the skill would jump to rank (4) or (5) which would still be unballanced considering 25% took a week and 35% would take a day.

Edited by: Soren on 19/06/2004 17:07:41 I agree on many points here.
The time to train high levels would have to be reworked and tested. Can't have it to long, it'll just take forever and there won't be a point to adding it, It can't be to short, everyone will have uber skills and it'd be a very scary universe.
I don't really expect the idea to be considered, was just throwing the thought out there. _________________________________________________________
