Depends on the relative strengths of the players. If the players are of equal strength, white get a komi of maybe 5.5 or 6.5 points. If white is 1 rank stronger, the komi is only 0.5. If it's a handicap game (namely, white is much stronger than black, so black gets to place some stones on the board at the start), there's no komi.

That's why any serious chess competition sees everyone play everyone twice, or some multiple of twice; with white half the time, and black the other half. Well, the tale comes about because of another guy - I forget his name but he was a serious weirdo - who claimed to have regular chats with God and play chess with him often, and said he could give God pawn and move and still beat him. Fischer's response was "No, you can't give God pawn and move. But, playing white, it should be possible to get a draw against Him." That is however trumped by another miltary dicta, "the guy who gets there fastest with the mostest wins" BTW, on Harry Enfields new TV show last night there was a sketch where they were talking about a match between Kasparov and Anand where the 4 Knights was played. At the time I thought that was a pretty dumb opening to use for their sketch, but I'm now thinking, did'nt one of those world cup games in New York between those two have that opening, or is just me imagining things?

Also the king should be boosted,, give it +2 wcs strength and 2x220mm Autocannons. Any of you guys play on ICC?

Rooks are not in a bad position after a castling move. I think the king should be given a laser. Any piece that checks it is instantly vaporised.

Nerf the bishops are you crazy it took me ages to fianchetto them Aron Nimzowitsch is turning in he's grave... On an interesting note I was reviewing this game before I started browsing the forums, a good bishop endgame and black winning... I used to play on FICS a lot but haven't played for about a year now
