Played it and finish it already.
Good game, very similar to the original Crysis.
Still a very hardware demanding game. (I have a NVidia GX2 and at all maximum 1650 rez it chokes here and there)

I know a guy with an E8600 and an ati 4850 and it says it runs perfectly in max settings.
if it's true, than I'll say they finally managed to optimize the damn engine. ---

It's a high quality product but the story is on the very short side. Also (but this is ofcourse unavoidable) the impact is gone a bit since it's not so new and fresh as the first one, it's a followup afterall.
Still it's VERY nicely done. As said a high quality product as you seldom see in games but WAY too short.

Is the original Crysis actually worth playing for any reason other than fancy graphics?

heh, tbh the current engine in this new Crysis should have been the first Crysis engine. Its far smoother and less PC-killing.
Still feels like the same game. Should have just made it an expansion. -

If you haven't played Crysis at all then yes imo, you should get it and actually I'd get the first one and not the new one due to the short length of the new one. It's a fantastic game with nice innovations and cool gimmicks. VERY much worth it but you NEED a proper PC with lots of memory and a good videocard.
To me it's one of those milestone games like HL2 and such.

I bought Crysis and Warhead together a few days ago, I think I'm just about to finish Crysis. As long as warhead isn't all vehicle sections then I can't see where it'll go wrong, I have enjoyed playing Crysis immensely to be quite honest even though FPS aren't usually my cup of tea. One thing I have noticed though, while you're on foot the game seems excellent and then as soon as you're in a vehicle it's like... the fun factor plummets and the annoyance shoots up.
If warhead is as good as Crysis then I will have fun playing it.
Also, on the performance side of things my computer has no problem playing in 1440x900x32x60 with everything set to high and my computer isn't an amazing beast of power, 64 X2 4800+ with 3gb of RAM and an 8800GS running on Vista 64 ultimate, not exactly high spec. It'll even manage fine with several options set to Very High so I'm looking forward to playing Warhead if it'll run even better like everyone is reporting.

This I rushed out and bought crysis on the release day and while it is a good game I thought far cry was better mainly because it was longer although the flexibility the nano suit gives makes for some interesting tactics.
The game I am really waiting for is project origin.

I bought it on Steam and got through playing it last night. I played the original Crysis but didn't finish it (got to the part where I went into the alien environment with zero gravity). But I did like this game a lot better, although the game is really short compared to the original. But, I didn't fork over the cash just for the SP.
Which segues into why I actually bought this game. I rarely spend my money on a single player game because lets be honest, replay value is very rare for any SP game besides RTSs'. But I decided to give it a go because I had heard that Crytek actually spent time on the multiplayer aspect of the game. And I gotta say I like it.
The MP game is a lot like Quakewars (I only played the demo though) but a lot more fun and to me a lot more intuitive. The maps are about the size that you would find in Battlefield 2 and they have vehicles. I haven't gotten into a tank or VTOL yet but they are in the game and can be piloted. Haven't played all of the maps, but the infantry-only map Graveyard is fun as hell.
All in all it's worth the $30 just for the multiplayer, with the SP game as a cherry on top.

Tis a bit short, completed it yesterday.
Its Crysis... with an english accent. Alas I thought it could have had a bit more relation with the original. You only hear Nomads' name mentioned a handful of times. You never actually see him, and you hear his voice once.
Sorry to ruin that for y'all but it is a bit of a deal breaker. I couldn't even figure out where abouts in relation to the initial game I actually was.

The AI could have used a little more work that's for sure. Oh and it doesn't bring much new content in respect to the original. It's just a mod after all.
Waiting for Crysis 2.

No, the game ran fine on an 8800GT, which is the equivalent of an 8800GTX, which was used to showcase the game ages ago. A 4850 is 20-40% faster. It has nothing to do with optimization, but hardware catching up and more budget builds having the minimum.
