maybe you know this:
flying around collecting your items. solar system by solar system, station by station... seven stations per system and at every station a small amout of items. now you need dock at all stations seperatly. with a big ship it will take a ages... for this i carry a frig with me. arrived in a system i am docking at the station with the most items. then i assamble the frig and collect the rest of the items from the other stations.
suggestion: plz add ship hangars to transport ships and frighters!
- for transport ships a hangar of 30.000m¦ for one frigs - for frighters a hangar of 120.000m¦ for one cruiser
coz its not nice to assamble ships always from the scratch, putting modules...
what are you thinking about?

this could help to clean sweep my asset!!!
i'm not docking for single items with a big one. with a quick frigg i could even jump one system further and be back on track quickly.
nice!

It would really be nice it freighers has slots, because it could be perhaps a low-slot item. Give all freithers/industrials a 0m¦ ship bay, then make a low slot item that will remove a portion of cargo space to add ship by space. That way there is a trade off for using the bay. As freighers don't have the slots though, I don't see it as much of an advantage.

it could be something like a drone bay. all ship have them but some with 0 m¦ only. so all ships could have a "ship bay" but more in the sense of a garage like it is in station. just to be able to carry fitted/rigged ships from station to station.
it could be also a slot item as Clansworth was saying similar to a clone vat bay maybe.
but plz let me carry a frig...

I wouldn't mind all capitals getting a small ship maintenance bay for a friggie or even cruiser actually. It's not like you'd be able to haul a lot, but one ship would even fit in..you'd think such large ships would have a little room for a small dinghy

it should be possible for sure...a ship bay could help to carry rigged frigs around i dont know if all capital should have the same, here is a bit of balancing needed i guess... but in general shuld it be possible to avoid 30 secs of aligning while collecting a tag from a station!

To add this, they would have to remove the fitting ability from the SMA, and make it a separate property only available on certain ships.
Of course, this might allow the ability to be added to some other ships that don't currently have an SMA. |

No, people should be shot every time they mention putting a fitting slot on a freighter. No low slots or rig slots anyways, thats why freighters dont have slots, otherwise the cargo room would be large enough to start carting around capitals again.

I think being able to carry a frig would be a great help to me. But.......if you ever get tired of hauling your stuff, you can always call on me. I would be happy to do it for you for a fee in my providence. This space reserved for something witty..... |

I like this idea alot! And why not introduce a new skill and implement the way spaceships and station(s) are built in real life. A skill that would allow you to attach a ship to your own... on the outside!
Im a hauler/miner so I can see the benefit in this(more popularity for miners, yay!) So, You have big ship and you could attach another ship onto it using one high slot for example? Ofcourse there should be a limit as to what size of ships you can attach and what kind of ships can drag other ships around, obvious. and with this, there could be possibly some modifiers - poor skill, your ship looses speed and or attaching takes more slots or shields are unusable etc... There modifiers should be fierce but realistic imo, but this would definately give a good boost for haulers, miners traders... I like it!
Attaching and separating these two ships would of course have to be done at stations, I wouldnt want to see some small industrial ship spit out something alot more battle-capable but the idea doesent sound impossible if in future the expansions would introduce smaller ships that have a high slot rigged so that it could attach to another shp with a similiar rigged high slot for inspace trading etc? Ok, Im not sure if I like the last part that I just wrote but am gonna leave it there anyway.

I have to reiterate, any "required" or addition of fitting slots to ships would immediately negate the original point of allowing a freighter to take in a ship due to talk of development of mods that convert one slot type to another, if it was included it would have to be hard coded on the ship, any call for module based attachments in this thread is counter to the authors original intention.

Having a ship hanger in a freighter would be very nice for 1 reason, rigs. Have you ever needed to move 4 ships that have rigs on them without losing them?

Imho the game really needs a hauler that can carry rigged ships, a while back i suggested a slot for a freighters that allows them to fit a single mod that converts the cargo to a ship maintenance bay, a little bay for a freighter seems ok but its not really that much of a hassle carrying a frig and fittings to be fair.
The real issue for me is moving a lot of rigged ships around, I know you can use carriers but I'd prefer to have some thing that can travel hi sec as well, be it a mod that converts your freighter cargo or a new ship class.
I'm no coding expert so I can't comment on the difficulty to implement this but the game is crying out for something of this nature.

i think a "ship hauler" is a complete new type of vessel. but here i will speak for hauler pilots and trader playing as frelancer in new eden. to me it would be an advantage to get the ability to carry a small "dinghy" around... at least a riggt frig! hangars for frighters asset and map |

i dont know if you should be able to leave the frighter in space by using a ship from your bay...but at least you should be able to carry a small rigged one without spoiling loads of cargo hold!

Just introduce a new shipclass, let's name it a dockship, with space for 2 battleships or 1 battleship + some smaller stuff.

Edited by: chiisai sakana on 09/10/2008 17:47:42 Maybe you could have it as a rig, that converts space from the freighters cargohold into a ship mainteinance bay with frigate, cruiser and battleship flavours. that way everyone can customise their freighter to their needs.

Freighters are supposed to be slow. They shouldn't be the ideal trade ship for every situation. Use a BR.

once again i have to repeat you "cannot" have any sort of module/rig fitting on a freighter for conversion, otherwise they would have to lower the overall space of all freighters to prevent them from hauling capitals using cargo rigs/mods.
I would however be in favor another freighter class ship that is specific to ship hauling and not that of cargo.
