Edited by: Haradgrim on 24/09/2008 19:45:34 This borders on "align-button" level of awesomeness!
Not only are autopilot changes waaaaaaaaay awesome with respect to Jita, they will make life a lot easier for those of us living in 0.0 who need to avoid a system here and there, but a dev actually said "very, very soon" I had thought that was a concept that had been banned from CCP's corporate culture. And to make things even more wicked-awesome; they let us in on the fact that they are "agressively" upgrading EVE's software backbone! (which we all assume but it's nice to hear confirmation of) --

Edited by: Manfred Rickenbocker on 24/09/2008 20:10:00 So how does this avoidance system work when you tell it to avoid a region/constellation/system and you tell it to autopilot there? Will it operate in a similar fashion as "Prefer Safer", a.k.a. picking as few systems in the "avoidance" cloud as possible and then auto piloting to the entry point? ------------------------ Peace through superior firepower: a guiding principle for uncertain times. |

Why not spread out level 4 agents too? Systems like Irjunen have a fraction of the number of people in Jita but they're often as bad or worse performance-wise than Jita.

Call me Avon if you like, but I'm not convinced.
Where is this useful outside of Jita? I know the Devblog uses Tribute as an example, but I cant think of a single practical use in 0.0 life.
This actually seems to be a knee-jerk reaction to a bad game design and a currently unfixable problem. I applaud CCP for putting an alternate route into a dead-end constellation, but adding extra jumps always carries the risk of moving the market hub to another system, the same 1,400 pilots, just on another node. Why not actually look at the market hubs and consider trying to create regional hubs? Why not actually say "we anticipate we'll have infiniband in-place in 8 months"?
Sorry, but I'm not convinced.

I'm going to step in and quickly mention that this isn't the only approach to Jita that is currently being undertaken. It is but one of several projects designed to make the game experience better for all involved. When there's more information available, I'm sure those in charge of the different projects will make them known, but please don't assume that this is the only 'fix' for Jita.

Tribute is a bad example, considering you basically have to go through 15w if you want to get through the region, but think of venal for example. I would have loved that feature while i was doing stuff there to quickly react and avoid systems with the fleet, without spending a lot of time looking for ways on ombeys maps.
Excluding things from the autopilot is a thing that was requested quite a few times now, and i don't see any reason not to include it.

Edited by: PC5 on 24/09/2008 22:13:44 And what will this change? Ill say it changes nearly nothing because main problem is still there - Jita it will be laggy because of game mechanisms.
If there are 700 ppl in Jita local how many of them are doing one of those things mentioned in devblog :
Quote: * When navigating through this region of space the autopilot sometimes wants to send you through Jita. * There is a constellation you cannot reach without going through Jita. * There are some agents in Jita that new players sometimes have the misfortune of working for. * Agents sometimes send you on missions into Jita.
How many would it be from 700 ppl? 50 max? That would be my guess. Ppl will be in Jita because they WANT to be in Jita or they HAVE TO be there. They are there not because they have to visit that place on their route. Same with fleet fights.
I would say CCP programers dosent have solution for Jita and game mechanisms used in systems with "high numbers" - fleet fights etc. Of course its good change but still its not that one were all waiting for. That one which will let large conflicts unleash their power, at last small % of it. Lets say 300vs300 playabble? Still a dream for all of us. But we have faith in CCP ;)

We've been hearing for literally years that agents would be removed from Jita. Why was this done in such a piecemeal fashion? While it's great that CCP is actually doing something finally, this has been a problem for years. It's hard to be happy that something is finally being fixed that should have been fixed (or at least a legitimate attempt to fix) before now. Instead, it just makes one wonder what the hell you guys do all day.

Will similar node dedication, world-shaping, and agent removing measures be taken with regard to the non-caldari and regional trading hubs in time? The situation isn't as extreme anywhere else yet but it is an issue, particularly in Dodixie, and one that will only grow with the games population.

You already have that option. There is a slider that you can adjust so your autopilot will avoid systems with that security status.
Moving the agents didnt kill Yulai. After the highway system was "adjusted" Yulai wasn't a central transportation point anymore. Jita gained that status within a week of Yulai's death. I dont see Jita dying ever; it is completely self sustaining now. People go there to buy whatever they need, and people sell there because they know people go there to buy.
I think the autopilot changes were desperately needed. Though there still needs to be a gate from New Caldari to Sobeseki. Few extra jumps I guess is a start. ----

Edited by: Typhado3 on 25/09/2008 04:32:01 sweet... seems like an awesome idea good to see a new dev blog that has a much wanted feature in it.
One question though, if you have say -10 standing with amarr is it possible to just say 'avoid all amarr space' or do I have to select the multpile regions amarr control?
also is it possible to save multiple different settings for this thing? I may wanna avoid some systems during war time that I don't care about later.
CCP please look at mining agent mining mission %..... I want better than 60% mining missions from a mining agent =( |

1) new dev blog \o/ ... about time..
2) Fixed some problems, now plz get to the freaking root of the problem to avoid global market hubs at all and favour regional trade hubs
3) that new feature.. to make it useful one would have to be able to specify some more details, like: don't show me routes through HIGH SEC systems of that faction or/and an option like "search an alternative route, if there is none, give me the route through systems on my list

I'm sorry but this is a very ill-thought out solution, so your saying instead of going through Jita, you expect people take a longer route of maybe 5 jumps more to go around Jita?
Most people won't go for this, also the majority of new players won't even know this feature exists. The effect that this will have will be negligble.
If your goal is to completely eliminate traffic that is just passing through Jita, which should be your goal, then this plan fails miserably.
CCP Atlas you use the towns and cities in Iceland as an example, does Iceland not have bypasses that bypass the major towns and cities?
My solution for the traffic passing through Jita that would completely eliminate it is very simple, in every adjacent Solar System to Jita, put a stargate to every other Solar System adjacent to Jita.
This in effect would make any autopilot route that would normally go through Jita to instead simple bypass it or jump over it because the autopilot will take the shortest route and going through Jita under my plan would add an extra jump. Thereby elimating all passing through traffic.
Now in saying all that, I do still welcome this new feature, it's great that you are now implementing this, as it will be another tool in helping people configure their autopilot, but it doesn't eliminate traffic passing through Jita, my idea does.

Originally by: CCP Atlas We have a new feature in place that allows players to set a list of systems, constellations and regions that the autopilot should never send them to. This list is preconfigured to avoid the Jita system.
It is my understanding that people who don't know about this feature will automaticly avoid Jita. It wouldn't make much sense otherwise, since people usually learn things when they need to and don't bother rummaging through all the possible setting beforehand.

These changes are not primarily meant to reduce the population of Jita as such. With these changes in place the only people in Jita will be the ones that actually have business there. This will provide a better playing experience for the rest of the people in the Forge.
As for the players that actually want to be in Jita, we're making solid infrastructure changes to make their playing experience better as well, but I don't anticipate the exact changes I was describing making a dramatic difference to their lives.

Nice work, this will go some way towards alleviating the problems.
However, as shown in your example, the new autopilot feature turns a 2-jump route into a 5-jump one. This is quite annoying; you don't want people taking the 'short cut' THROUGH Jita! More stargates around Jita please...?
