I've played Lineage II, FFXI (or whichever one was online), Ragnarok, World of Warcraft and a few others. I hate the all with a passion. Perhaps it could be the fact that I just don't have the drive to go out and kill the same stupid monsters for hours on end to level, perhaps its when I do quests and such I'm the priest (or equivalent) and so it's hard to do it. Or maybe it's just the fact that I play a priest in a group of friends that lack any sort of life what-so-ever and end up out leveling me with absolutely no consideration to their healer. To me those games suck. To each his own I'll say. I have sworn off all kill to level based MMO's. Hopefully one day CCP will humor my sense of play style and create a sword and magic type MMO with similar training mechanics as Eve.

My WoW account is currently inactive, but mostly due to boredom with the game.
I've no doubt I'll reactivate it at some point.
Nothing wrong with WoW for people who want that game, and a lot of folks do want it. I wish them well.
Play nice while you butcher each other.

Obviously you didnt bother reading the rest of my post, or you simply dont have any intelligent to say about it. (it = lack of reward for pvp activities)
EVE PvP not having the same point != EVE PvP having no point.
The rest of your post was irrelevant.
I guess thinking about it I can see some parts of pvp in eve being useful. Specifically defending your territory in 0.0. Unfortunately I havnt been doing any of that. Just roaming around lowsec in gangs killing random people for no particular reason, and that to me seems not only pointless, but bad for me in that I then have to waste time trying to get my sec status back up again.
Id much sooner be making ISK.
I guess I should modify my statement to "Killing in lowsec seems pointless to me".

Why are you meh on Warhammer? It seems really great and has a ton of focus on PvP, one of EVE's strong points as well.

Both have own good qualities and both are really good games. Swords+magic and space+pewpew. With both, i get catered the preverbial cake of win.
Such herecy, such blasphemy, THIS. IS. *BANG!* Argh! No, you don't go there.
Now, why is this interesting? It isn't. I just wondered if there were others who dared acknowledge their gaming to diverse from the sanctity of EVE?
In short, do you play other MMOs?
And if you can't keep the flames out, i deem you as part of "fail incorporate" forever
Keep. It. Clean.
And no, you can't have "half my stuff"
The reason (most) people tell people to GB2WOW is because WOW and EVE are fundamentally different games, and people who want to change EVE's core design need to STFU and go play a game that already has what they want.
WoW is a good game, it's just not one I would (ever) want to play

WoW is a PvE grind. Who can forget levels 25 to 45? It was linear - you HAD to do Stranglethorn Vale etc. and kill hundreds trolls/panthers/small dinosaurs.
EVE has more variety - There are more ways to get ISK. PvPing for ISK is just one method.
And just wait for walking in stations!

Agreed. I started playing casually on launch day, and it's awesome that you can just hop on, get thrown into pvp in a variety of ways, yet still level up instead of doing boring, mindless grinding. I mean, c'mon, there's a quest that gives you xp for "grinding" 10 other player characters!

Edited by: Victor Kruger on 25/09/2008 19:11:23 People here conveniently forget that the "xp" in EvE is Isk to fund your new ship/skill/implant/module. So in essence, both WoW and EvE require you to grind (which is the base of all MMOG's). The difference is how this is achieved. I find the Isk grind in EvE far more tedious (either do missions, rat in low/nullsec or mine) than the xp grind in WoW.
If you can actually fund your income through PvP then I applaud you, as you are in a minority.

While I can understand playing eve along with some other game (since you can keep 'playing' just by making sure you always have a skill trianing).. WoW has no good qualities it did not rip off from some other game.
Play some other mmo.
wow is a very weak solo grind to highest level and then a boring raid schedule waiting game. Between raids you can amuse yourself with things like standing around or solo grinding another character up.
There is no long term purpose or staying power.
If you like a raid game go play ffxi or something, did you hear that story, they have the hardcore raids yo, take like all day to kill a boss. People were passing out! Intense!
Honestly though, i could not reccomend another mmo that is out on the market today and is possible to start playing as it is in its current state. They are all bad now. The possible exception being CoX, which is easy to get into.

I played WoW from Jan 05 to Aug of 06. Canceled WoW when I started playing Eve (have been playing Eve since Aug 06). I went back to playing WoW again, on and off, after the first add-on (to play the two races). Played until I got em both to level 40 and canceled again. About a month ago I renewed (for the third time). Logged on, sat there looking at the screen for 10 minutes, logged off and canceled. I just can't play it any more. It was a fun game but it aint fun for me anymore.
I tried playing AoC. I had more fun on the forums then I did in game. Not a very good thing to say about a game. I might try Warhammer but I will not make the same mistake I did with AoC (am going to wait for others to try it out for the first month or so).
So, alas, the only MMO I play is Eve. I wish there was another spaceship MMO out there. I would really like to try it.

so is daoc (on a classic server).
And im pretty sure AC is still around.
But are those games you can 'get into' right now, today? Or have they dwindled down to a core of diehards that will be unfriendly to nublars and make getting a group impossible?

I have never played any other MMOs past atrial for a few hours. None appeal to me more than eve and i certainly dont have the time for more than one (when i get bored it tends to be with gaming in general rather than eve). Once Eve dies or the devs totally break it i will probably go try another but i dont think that will happen soon (hopefully).

The reason you don't like WoW, is because of the way YOU play it. Sure if you pick quite possibly the dullest way to play a game then of course it's not going to be fun.
And whats this about it having "a very weak solo grind to max level"? Unless to lvel you spent your whole time just grinding mobs and not doing a single quest i don't understand that at all.

I mean that you can solo to the maximum level in a couple weeks, and if you really push yourself and really try you could probably do it in a single week with some classes.
And then when you get there all thats left to do is to raid. And to do the really 'good' raids you need a guild, and for that you have to coordinate things with said guild, which means you can only raid at certain times, based on when everyone is on and has the time to do so.
Its boring. The EQ style endgame is one of the worst kind in mmos, and WoW is probably the lamest incarnation of it.
WoW is a shiny game, once you realize what it is most people are already addicted to it (this is how most mmos work really). But the thing with mmo addictions, the more mmos you have played and quit, the harder it is for you to become 'hooked'.
Speaking as an mmo UBERLEETVETERANMASTER, who no longer feels compelled to 'keep playing a game i dont like anymore because i already put so much time into it', i was able to judge wow for what it was, and deem it unfit.
The only reason wow is popular, is also the only reason EQ was popular. For many people its their first mmorpg. Your first mmorpg you think is nifty-keen-awesome and you stick too long after youve stopped having fun. That is just the way mmos work.
I played wow for a bit more than a year. From its release. I played it and had a priest and i raided. I quit because it was a bad game once you get to the endgame. I came back when the first expansion came out to check it out. I solod up a new character in a few weeks. Endgame was even worse in the expansion=P
If you dont mind playing WoW fully realising that the game ends when you get to the highest level*, go ahead. But dont enter it with the wrong idea.
*most people make alts. Thats what they do. They level and level and when they get to max, they start over. Thats wows real endgame, raids are just a way to make people feel like they are still advancing their main by playing it a feqw hours every weekend so as to not quit in disgust.

Again, it isnt all about raiding at all, in fact i i never do anything more than 5 man instances and i pvp a fair bit. Raiding is very dull you're right. That is why i choose not to do it.
Play games in a boring way, and you'll get bored. Find a fun guild that do more than have kara on farm and do entertaining things.

there is not much more to do at that point. in that case the game just becomes an interactive chat room, because you have hit the wall on advancement. why even bother leveling then? just chat on a level 1?
ive done my fair share of time wasting pointless activities in mmos. i remember in nexustk i collected lots and lots and lots of slag (a worthless item), just to have a whole lot of it. did the same with rat meat (and made a good bit of money when alchemy came out, rat meat being a needed ingredient ^___^)
But now we are in a realm of 'interactive chatroom' ok.. Then why not play a game thats better at being an interactive chatroom? CoX has more character customization, better emotes, and you can fly around. AO has better atmosphere to just hang out in.. hell, even second life would be entertaining if you make sure you step around the furries =P
What does wow offer other than character progression? Cybering with nigh elves?
dont say pvp, there is nothing good about wow pvp.

I used to play wow a ocuple of years ago. I played for the "story" as that is my won't. i found though that after running through it once, I really didn't have much interest in doing it again. EVE on the other hand... This is my 2nd "return". Just cannot stay away.
