Since this, as always, fell to the comparison grid with people and even got a few "quit now plz!" comments, you really want me to compare the two from a non-sided view?
It'll ruin parts of EVE if i do.
I can rip down basically any game to such elements that make it sound very boring and mundane to play, it's my job afterall, to shoot down game concepts
EVE has parts that are better, WoW has parts that are better, and the other way around in negative. I was simply curious if people feeded their lack of stuff or boredom with other games.

I would think about playing wow but there just doesn't seem to be a ****ing point to playing.
and if I want a game where I just mindlessly kill people I have halo/counterstrike/other fps/console games.

I fixed it for you:
Quote: I mean that you can solo to a hulk in a couple weeks, and if you really push yourself and really try you could probably do it in a single week with some mindless running missions and mining in an osprey.
And then when you get there all thats left to do is to join a corporation. And to do the really 'good' mining ops you need an alliance, and for that you have to coordinate things with said alliance, which means you can only mine at certain times, based on when everyone is on and has the time to do so.
Here is the bottom line:
Don't compare EVE to WoW. They are different games. Some like EVE, some like WoW, some like both, some like others.
However...
To all the people that keep saying WoW is a mindless leveling/grinding game: so is EVE. You do boring missions, boring mining, boring trading to gain ISK to get better stuff. Even if you are a fulltime PvPer you need to grind to pay for new ships.
And you can't tell me that you actually prefer mindnumbing watching your cargohold fill with new pieces of ore every 8 minutes for 3 hours or doing the same missions for days at end where you accept mission -> warp to -> kill 20 red plusses -> warp back, is more fun than doing quests.
I challenge anyone to tell me how they played EVE without this mindnumbing isk grinding. -------------- I R Not Completely Amazing, But I R Mostly Amazing |

The point is, stop posting stuff like that and discuss what is discussed.
This kind of stuff i was hoping to avoid, and i'm so lucky this lot is more mature then in WoW

This. Although overall I would vote EvE as the better game, I've recently become bored of it (like many people do, and eventually come back) and started playing WoW with a couple friends. Gotta say that it wasn't half as bad a I was expecting

Trading/industry isn't boring if you are doing it right.
Nor is it a grind, since it is a form of PvP.
And anyway, the difference isn't that EVE doesn't having grinding, it's that grinding in EVE is merely a means to a player-chosen end. -

If you look at trading/industry as a form of PvP then you can say the same thing about WoW since you can also trade and produce there and sell it on the AH ;)
And grinding is a means to an end in most MMO's. Also WoW. -------------- I R Not Completely Amazing, But I R Mostly Amazing |

And yeah, I've played WoW - my old corp all bailed to go play it because they thought the entry barrier to 0.0 alliances was too big, and there was no way they could get involved...a surprisingly common and incorrect opinion.
There's a variety of complaints that can be levelled, but I think the simplest is the same issue with City of Heroes/Villains. Somewhere, some crazy developer thought up adding a watered down variant of PvP to a PvE game, and both cases result in games that are PvE-centric with the occasional cast-spells-at-people minigame. ----------------------------- Signature for sale :o |

Ok, this is worth some iskies, will be sending when i get home
Disclaimer: Time spent ingame sending the aforementioned ISK will be deducted from the amount of isk sent as per the "time spent weighted inversely" formula.

If Darkfall ever does see the light od fay I suspect it will be a complete mess. They reckon it's going to release this year but isn't even in beta yet. And why is everything shrouded in mystery? It seems to have been made by part-time devs with little or no experience. Plus the graphics are ugly as ****.

Good luck playng WoW. My son plays/ed until recently when his account starting getting hacked (along with about 10,000 other people).
After lots of e-mails and calls to Blizzards account management department and a complete reformat and re-install of his PC (they were claiming the hacking was down to a keylogger)we got his account back only to have Blizzard lock it two days later to "confirm" the identity of the owner.
They refuse to talk to me even though my son is under 16 and it's my credit card paying for it and in order to prove it's his/my account they want everything down to a copy of his passport, which i refused on the base of this information can be used for identity theft.
I've got so peeved off with them I cancelled his subscription and now they are refusing to refund me the outstanding amount (it's paid upto Feb 09)even though my son can't even log in an play because the account is locked.
So have fun playing WoW.
Oh and there suggestion to improve account security. Spend another $6.50 with them to buy a "Blizzard Authenticator".

A couple weeks ago I actually completely reformatted my buddys computer as he had his account hacked as well, mentioned something along the lines of a keylogger as well. For him he got everything up and back in a weeks time. Then again he used GTC instead of credit. That some shoddy customer service. I guess now's a good time to start Warhammer.

Oh i will, when 40k comes.
Sword and magic, as much as one can make WAR as, is kept to WoW for the sole reason of things working and years of "staying power". I like MMOs, like EVE, that will be around me for more then three months.
But 40k, it's my secod hope along Stargste, to actually finding a character immersed MMO of sci-fi proportions.

Eve was my first and for a long time only MMO. i got tired of spending hours trying to find a "good" fight, not a gank (either way) and not the mindless 0.0 fleet op. Looking for something that was small gang vs small gang is so hard because its rare that you find another gang that is near equal in size or shiptypes, and rarer still that both sides want to engage in an equal fight.
Then i tried WAR, it promised instant PVP, and it does deliver. Its just that the PVP is so mindless, nothing gets accomplished, there are really no variations to what a certian cast of character can do, and if you die you just respawn and run right back into the fight as if nothing happened. Add on top of that lack of player economy, simple equipment decisions (item x is always better than item y), and the genral lack of community feel.
I would love it if Eve introduced some mechanisms to allow players to opt into pvp situations that were tied into FW for example. Some sort of PVP missions that were tied into the victory points/system control and rankings. Maybe even reintroduce static complexes, anything that encourages small gangs to fight over.
That being said I am down from 3 accounts to 1 on Eve.

I played WoW for a few years. When I started playing EVE I noticed that I was playing mostly with adults (maturity-wise, not age-wise, though EVE players are older on the average). I strongly doubt that I will ever fire up my WoW account again. ____________________________________

Regarding WAR, in pvp, don't you get some goal for it all? Any rewards? Like the keeps. Isn't the point to get the keeps? I'm not totally sure but I'm pretty close to buying it. It sounds like my instant action game, and eve is my better, but more patient game. |
