Just mneed a bit of help if possible peeps.
Problem i'm getting is the Monitor keeps flashing up "out of range" in safe mode, in bios and in windows. if i turn it off and back on again it flashes the screen up and then goes black again. i've browsed google but everything refers to fixing the problem on a desktop, most of which are go into BIOS and disable intergrated graphics to get it back to default. Only problem is, reason i have a new laptop is because my desktop mother board blew so i cant use that BIOS to do that.
I've tried pressing DEL on my old laptop (screen has broke) but that doesnt take it into BIOS, i dont want to risk it on the new laptop as its the only fully workign PC in the house now.
Another thing is that the monitor has been tried on upto 4 different machines as the primary monitor all at 1024x768 (the monitors accepted resolution) and it still flashes up "out of Range" which i thought was odd as it shud be reduced to whatever the PC was set to not what it was last set to as the monitor doesnt have memory... does it?
The monitor is just a generic one from PC World about 4 years ago now.
any more detaisl u need i can do my best to get.. cheers in advance for any help

Edited by: Mea Lustra on 25/09/2008 11:43:42 Out of range can happen due to two settings;
- resolution - frequency
Or rather, the combination of both. If it's a TFT screen it'll be limited to 60Hz at any resolution. And if you say it runs at 1024x768 max I must assume that it's a small TFT (any tube that's 4 years old runs higher than that resolution, that our the monitor is WAY older). So, if I assume right that your laptop as such works well and the screen works, but when connected to the monitor the monitor doesn't work there's 2 options (apart from the monitor being kaputt).
- you didn't enable the external VGA - you set the external resolution/frequency combo too high (in your case it should be 1024x768@60Hz).

The TFT was working fine when it used ot be connected to the desktop but i was alterign the resolution and it started with the out of range.
On each machine, ranging from 5years old to 6months old have all had the extended desktop which the TFT was set as have all been set to 1024x768 and 60hz but for the last year its been flashing up with the Out of Range and then shuttign down.
my only other option is to try it on my mates desktop and play with the BIOS option listed on the google resuslts, even when booted into VGA and safe modes iot still comes up the same. even when i set the desktop to vga/safe mode befor eit blew

Could be that the BIOS your laptop has is a graphical one that expects/demands the native screen resolution (which will be more than 1024x768). even on external view. Also, "out of range" is just a standard message your monitor gives when it gets a signal it can't use or when it gets no signal at all, It's not neccesarily a problem with the signal.

Its the same problem on a machine thats just as old as the TFT too, where the resolution/refresh rate shudnt exceed the monitors ranges. i think best thing will be be try it on my mates desktop and try altering the graphics through that
