I have the desktop machine which I use for everything these days. (quadcore 4gb server08WS)
I also have two laptops, one's a p4, 512 the other Dualcore with 1gb.
I don't want to sell them, but I'd love to find a use for them, and don't care if there on 24/7 or whatever. (I don't travel)
I have 2 domains and host an FTP already.
What would you do with em?

I use one pc for gaming, 1 for forum whoring, and my laptop generally stays off unless I go out somewhere.

Give 'em away to an impoverished student or Oxfam or something and feel all warm and glowy inside. You don't have to force yourself to find a use for them!

The only thing I can think of atm, is setting one up with Server 08 and AD and seein if I can get the server to push down applications automaticly via AD GP, something i've never tried but we use it at work and is very cool.
or just turn one into a mass host, Teamspeak, more secure FTP, point my domains to it and host my own rather then paying fasthosts to.

True, but you never know when you might need a lappy 
Other things I have givin to oxfam, BHF and such when there no longer needed.
Students have more cash then I do, they can buy there own!.

Leave one in the bathroom at all times so you can browse the internet while crapping. Thats what i do.
Actually no, set it up so its just a remote access to your desktop. Then play your games on your desktop, via your laptop, while crapping.

I don't want to be Richard, but I could always use a laptop, especially a Dualcore one, but I'm not picky.
So why give to a big, nameless, charity when you can make a fellow Eve-player happy, one who will sing your praises until the end of time, or Eve, whichever comes first.

Set both of them up with World Community Grid and put the processing power to use. I have my old laptop sitting in the living-room constantly running that and acting as a stand-by machine for browsing, checking e-mail or playing music through the stereo from the PC upstairs. If I had another laptop spare, that one would be in the kitchen for looking up recipes and streaming Radio 4 (Yes, I know, I know, it is an old peoples' station but I like it running when cooking and laptop speakers are good for giving talk radio that 1930's feel...Radio 4 is perfect for that).
And not all students have a lot of cash. I can think of several of my former students who would have benefited greatly from a generious donation of a servicable machine. If you want to make sure your machine goes to someone who truly needs it, then I would recommend contacting your local uni's Students' Union and handing it to their Welfare Officer or equivalent. They'll make sure it gets to someone who will appreciate it.

I don't think oxfam accepts electronics any more?
I have one laptop plugged into my hi fi that is basically just a ridiculously expensive digital tuner now.

I'm going to put the battered P4 in the garage and use it as a wifi music station + add it to WCG and something like seti as well.
The other i'll add WCG + seti or something and just use it as a e-mail machine and browser + IRC so I don't have to turn the desktop on for simple things.
