I was thinking as I played Assassins creed that it would be very easy to transpose the Grand Theft Auto game backwards in time and make a medieval version, Ye Olde Grand Theft Auto, set in a medieval city with swords instead of guns, horses and carts instead of cars, retaining the ironic humour aspect of the series so far, with perhaps a little Pythonesque medieval wit (Help, help, I'm being opressed! etc).
Is that a brilliant idea or what ?

the problem is that much of the appeal of the GTA series is it's biting relevence to the present, be it Pastor Richard's money embezzling televangelism in Vice City, or Iggy Pop ranting on the radio in GTA IV.
if you wanted "violent criminal behavior in a city", yes, GTA could be transposed. But you would only be left wit ha hollow shell of the concept, lacking the style, social wit, and observation on the excesses of american culture which personalise the GTA francise...
in short, what you're left with is a Driver, or a Saints Row... not a GTA.
(that said, I'd kill to see/work on/play a GTA set in a slightly more chicago-themed Carcer City in around 1979-1981. Blues music, decaying steel mills, Joliet prison, soul and classic r'n'b (muddy waters, howling wolf, john lee hooker) on the radio, as well as social upheaval of punk and new wave...)

I would like to see GTA London remade and still set in the 60s with a Krays type theme or perhaps 1930s Chicago gangsters.

TBH, I thought that this was the next step after San Andreas. But then next-Gen consoles came along, and I can't imagine America liking a brand spanking new awesome game that ISN'T in one of the American cities. It's similar to why Brit flicks don't do too well in America, because they're British. Unless you have a few token Yanks in a Brit flick film, nobody in America would care about it.
- Well, that's how I've seen things pan out so far anyways. -------------------- [Signature]

I found the game Gun to be pretty much a "GTA Wild West", and good for a laugh or 2.
It's available on Steam for $20, but it's not really worth that much to be honest, it's quite old now and pretty "unpolished". You could probably get it from the bargain bin of a game shop for a decent price. _____ Originally by: The TX Lemme just check my bothered-pocket.... oh, nothing there.
