This is just an idea, so dont flaim me two much.
This idea is designed to combat the fotm which happens after every ballance change.
i've seen this idea used in other games, to greate effect, inorder to stop everyone flieing just one ship.
priniple: the more people file a ship, the more expensive it gets.
theoreticly, this should happen in eve, due to supply and demand, and, indead it used two, back before invention. but now, all ships (& modules) use roughly the same components to build them, so if all players are fleing ship A instead of ship B and A, then the price will stay about the same.
solution, (there are anumber of these):-
increase the time and make it hard build stuff. This will ineffect increase the time it takes for the market to respond to supply and demand changes, resoluting, in a short term price increase, of fotm ships/modules. ie increase bpo research time, make bpos more expensive, and increase build time.
make it so that ships and modlues require more uniqu components. this, if supply and demand for that ship changed, the suply and demand for the component would change. resulting in higher prices (and/or more ppl mining/building that component).
make mineral requirements change dynamicaly, based on how many ppl are useing that module/ship. this insureing that overused ships/modules are allways high in price than under used ships and moudlues. (though i'm not infavour of this idea.)

then, logically these ships/modules would increase visibly in size?

Gees, does this mean Titans will be cheaper than chips as there aren't even 100 of them in the entire game?
I think we all know what you mean, but this is eve and if everyone flew the same ship, it would be predictable and clever people would just fly the 'right' counter ship and eat em all up :0
Supply and demand works very well in EVE and the population would never fall that far that they all flew the same ship (unless in some comedy fleet) Man goes to the doc, with a strawberry growing out of his head. Doc says "I'll give you some cream to put on it." |

well, depends which solution(s) you use, and how you ballance them.

I agree compleatly, but varying the price abit would save the devs having to nerf stuff every 10 minuets, once every man and his dog decideds to do one thing. there are countless examples of this, (noss, damps, ecm have all been overused & subsiquently nerfed).

i was refering to one ship, as a simplified example. ofc its not to the extreem that everybody is flieing the same ship (testomy to how well eve is (manualy) ballanced). but you cant deny that there are some ships/modules that are more popular than others and you cant deny, that some ships/modules, do(/are used) two much and cost two little, while others do(/are used) two little and cost two much.
supply and demand does work in eve, but by giveing each ship/module a more uniqu demand on the system, it could hold reduce the ballancing problem.

You know I have seen too written as to a lot, but I don't think I have ever seen it written at two.
yeah, I don't have anything constructive or even particularly relevant to add. |
