Hi, I¦m an amarr pilot. I am still a noob when it comes to most things in this huge beast of a game. But I have recently started regretting ever choosing Amarr. But I¦m kind of stuck. I dont like the other races, but I like lasers and gold ships so I will be staying here.
90% of the threads on this forum and chat in game that mention Amarr are bashin the race. Saying all the ships are crap (Except for some reason the harby and 'geddon), the dps is lacking and cap usage sucks.. Could someone give me an informed opinion on these things? I mainly want to do pve.
CCP : What I wanted to know is if there are any real changes to the race planned in the near future?

Er...what?
Amarr are great, possibly the best race right now. Lasers just take a few SP to really be good in (hint: train for t2).
Punisher is a great frigate, Omen is ok (needs more PG, CCP), Harbinger is an awesome battlecruiser, and all of the battleships are excellent, albeit you need some tactical sense to use them well. As for the t2 ships, Sacrilege is definitely teh sexy, and the others aren't that bad either - Crusader is the fastest Interceptor, and their command ships are a solid choice. Curse is one of the best Force Recons.
So yeah, keep training them. |

The Anathema and Guardian class ships are sexy too. And I hear that the amarr dreadnought is a hoot seeing as you only need to train up lasers for maximum pew pew |

Edited by: Adjasarcanter on 29/09/2008 15:52:45 Amarr ships are very good imo. My character is over 2 years old now and has never trained anything except Amarr based skills. You just need the patience to focus train lots of skill points into certain areas (read gunnery and mechanic) and they will start to shine. It takes a good year or 2 to get enough skill points to make 'em good but it's worth it. Plus, they have some of the best looking ships in EVE as far as I'm concerned. |

Edited by: Yesh on 29/09/2008 16:00:33 Amarr is quite a hard race to start with when your support skills are low compared to the other races, but when you have got those skills Amarr rule!
Got to agree with the comments about T1 Amarr cruisers though. They are probably the worst of all the races. *edit* after caldari
Also I don't rate Amarr for running missions. I prefer indiscriminate violence and vandalism, but if I HAD to do missions I would rather use a drake with medium skills than an Amarr BS with max skills. But for PVP they are the business.

Amarr are capable in both PvP and PvE, in a variety of roles, from fleet warfare to small, fast gangs, and have some of the best capital ships available in the game. However, they can be a punishing race to start with when you don't have particularly good support skills, and you can often find yourself running out of cap or something similar. Stick with it though, because it does get better. |

Gallente and Caldari are easiest to fly with little skills points. Amarr and Minmatar take some getting used to and really begin to shine after you train your character for about a year.

Whatever you do, DON'T CROSS TRAIN. Seriously, I cross trained 3 times. I'm just barely starting to reach the same potential of a 1 year char thanks to my indecision.

Yes, as long as they don't contain a bazillion explosive-damage-spewing battleships (a bazillion EM- or kinetic-spewing ones is still fine though).

CCP has already boosted Amarr considerably and the metagame has also shifted to a point where mid-range combat actually occurs on a regular basis, which means that the range advantage of amarr lasers is suddenly meaningful, as opposed to not so much a year ago when we were playing blasterboats-and-gallente-and-damps-and-stupidly-overpowered-NOS-Online.
however IMHO lasers are the most punishingly obnoxious weapons to use with low skills which means starting as a new Amarr player sort of sucks.
Cap usage will always be a problem but once you get your skills up (mainly cap skills, ship command skills, and controlled bursts) it gets pretty reasonable.
The DPS is less than that of Gallente ships, but Amarr get to apply it at 400% of the range 600 dps zealot from 11km 4tw
for PVE, look into the Apocalypse for level 4s. It has a metric boatload of cap so it's pretty forgiving to newer players (although do not take this as advice to get into a BS asap; it's a poor choice). |

Don't believe the hype. You made a GOOD choice picking Amarr. If you ask me, I think they have the best ships and skills.
For one, the ships are beautiful. Almost ALL classes of their ships are lovely.
Two, Lasers will wtfpwn if you invest enough skills and money into them. They also do not need reloading and can focus on a new target quickly.
Three, They have the most fearful looking battleships of any race. With the power to back it up.
Four, look better than Achura Males. __________________ The above post has decreased your IQ by 10%. |

Meh… I'd say that even at its best, the Prophecy is only so-so. Then again, that goes for most tier-1 BCs. |

the maller is a great ship. if you fit it correctly and your skills are trained right you shouldnt have any problems taking out a vast number of other ships. |
