I'm coming to the USA on holidaaaaaaaaaay!!!!
And I'm quite excited. I have American Dollars in my wallet, my hand luggage is filled to the brim with cameras/batteries/tripods/tapes, and I haven't started packing my clothes into my main suitcase. Also, I need to clean out all the hamster stuff and work out which of our neighbours or my GF's friends is having the hamsters while we're away.
In just TWELVE hours from now, I'll hopefully be on the National Express coach leaving Brighton heading towards Heathrow.
In about 36hours from now, I think I might be in Vegas. I'm not sure of the exact plan of action - that's Dad's concern, me and my GF just have to show up at the airport to meet them :-)
We'll be going to Las Vegas for a couple of days, then off to Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Bryce Canyon, possibly over to California if we get time, and eventually back to Vegas for another night or two.

Question: Is the in-car cigarette lighter socket 12V in the USA, same as the UK? I wanna take my MP3 player, but the only way to charge it is to plug it into a USB socket, and I have a 12V-cigarette-light-plug-to-USB-socket adapter, and could use that in the hire car/bus we're having out there.

Yes on lighter.
I don't know what part of the grand canyon your planning on seeing but if you get into AZ check out the Anasazi cliff dwellings, it's quite a sight to see.
Other than that I hope you enjoy looking at desert. |

When I was at the grand canyon, taking a chopper ride to the bottom, the pilot mentioned how one time one of the passengers opened the door and jumped out on the way down. |

12 volts - should be able to buy converters in popular electronics stores like Radio Shack |

if you like alcohol AND tittie bars, you should visit the palomino strip club, the only one that has fully naked women AND serves alcohol
the fountains at the bellagio are pretty cool to, but only go AT NIGHT
i wont say dont see the new show at the treasure island (called the "sirens of the TI") but the older one they had a while ago was MUCH better, the only good one abouat this is the ship full of half naked girls, the rest is just stupid
cant really recomend a hotel or anythihng since ive never had to stay in one (why? lol i LIVE here)

Splurge and get the Helicopter flight over the GC, well worth it, if you get to California, I highly recommend Yosemite

All that I have to say is if you're going to Vegas, try an In-N-Out Double-Double. There's one on Tropicana and the 15, just ask the cab driver and he'll show you the way.
You're coming out at a good time too...decent weather right now and most of the other tourists have gone home.
