Folks, Listen up everyone, especially those of you whining about something you obviously know nothing about.
I can assure you, and this is coming from someone that has worked for IBM, Dell and way back when Novell, and has been involved in a great deal of software development, and the deployment of complex systems over the years, that no developer or systems administrator, intentionally misquotes the amount of time it takes to complete a deployment, a project fix, a patch or whatever. Most of the team wants you to get back on the thing they created as soon as possible.
There is no greater sense of satisfaction for a developer than to see people using and more importantly enjoying the efforts of all their work. In fact most of the time, the deployment team fully expects that a system will be back up in the time they say it will, based on the test systemÆs response to the number of simulations and workload placed upon the testing system. One thing that no developer can anticipate with complete understanding is what happens when the system is placed under the actual work load.
These MMOs are extremely complex in their framework and there are a number of rules that are affected by each and every patch. There are many unseen variables that inadvertently get in the way and a prudent, well disciplined team will stop the patch deployment until they can get ahead of the problems that creep up and correct them before they completely disable the system under the change. This is always a point of disappointment for the development teams, and not a choice they make lightly.
LetÆs take this down time to truly appreciate the work they do to create such a wonderful escape called Eve Online. And letÆs thank them for a job well done rather than wasting space and time complaining.

wow, it's hilarious to me that the only thing that some people have to do while they're waiting for the FREE patch is to ***** about the people trying to get it to them. IT'S A FREE PATCH! GIVE THEM A BREAK! |

ok, lets see now, 3x clients at roughly 130.00 u.s. dollars a year each, time lost from extended downtimes, and other oopsies-- TOTALLY unk, most other businesses give an extention of your subscription when they screw up, but here we just get to pay and pay and pay, and we did not even get kissed. |

Aparently, Dez Affinity is an a' no matter where he is. Being a developer, I suggest that everyone respects and appreciates what's being done here. It's not like we're all pigfarmers like Dez over here..., takes quite a bit more work and intelligence than that I'm afraid. I'll take the time extra that's needed and be glad to play this awesome game online, for the few Ç's I have to pay for it. *raises a glass to the EVE dev team* Here's to you guys, cheers !!!

Ever hear of Non-Production Testing? or Rollback?
For you developers that think this downtime is ok I'll explain it to you.
First you test the patches in a non-production environment. Before deploying the patch. You know what the machine is it will be running on, so it's not like your guessing about a damn laptops space key!
Rollback is when you deploy a patch, find out you haven't done enough Non-Production testing, and Boot the original program.
Did CCP forget to backup the server before "testing" this patch?
More importantly:
When will the Patch for this Patch be deployed?
Amen to that.
This deserves a STFU if any post does.
