Every time my client patches itself up with an update everything stays stable until I close eve client. Then when I start it again it is becoming a zombie process. During earlier patch it was becoming zombie process during changing windows and during combat. Now with current patch it is something with switching from eve to desktop that makes eve to become zombie process. Is there some some method of keeping patch from constantly corrupting eve client? |

I removed settings and uninstalled Eve client. Installed the latest EVE_Classic_Setup_64311 and all I can do is to stir at black screen and when I switch to desktop and back the eve is becoming zombie process... again.

I have installed older version of eve client "EVE_Classic_Setup_61817", but when it starts it checks for patch and after opening window "new build available (yes)(no)" and then it just stops responding. It doesn't download even the patch... It just stays with that open window and stays no matter how much you click on "yes" or "no" button.
Is the latest patch not available for download from server? |

I had just run the old client in safe mode and it *****es about sound system. I do have the dreaded intel HD sound codec, so I do have my sound on default totally deactivated in my wine. Only then I have successfully patched old client and logged in into eve. Then I had the usual problems with reset setting and when I switched to desktop to write this eve client became zombie process again.

Edited by: Polish Sarmatian on 01/10/2008 14:18:22 Now something new happened to my eve client. When I switched to desktop it just closed its process on its own. All i did was just to put audio=0 in its prefs.ini file.

So it seems it is incurable. Every time I switch to desktop the new client becomes zombie process and I did clear all settings and reinstalled client too to no avail. Former eve client worked for me perfectly and was 100% stable. I think CCP broke something with this latest client and it is making my client zombie process every time i switch to desktop. I am using windows classic client on Xubuntu on wine with no sound what so ever. |

About Zombie Process you can read at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zombie_process
Today eveclassicpatch64311-64451.exe was automatically applied to my eve classic client. Despite it my eve classic client still becomes zombie process every time I switch to desktop. This is a serious bug, which makes playing eve on my Xubuntu highly unstable. Reinstalling eve client doesn't help. I reinstalled wine to no avail too. Does any one have any idea, what to do next?

So wait? Your playing this on Ubuntu?
This is more than likely a Wine issue rather than a client issue. Wine is not infallible.

Edited by: Polish Sarmatian on 06/10/2008 16:35:04 Edited by: Polish Sarmatian on 06/10/2008 16:34:26 No. It is 100% eve issue and absolutely not wine. Some people using vista told me they had some similar issues after last two patches and they don't use wine to play windows games on their vista OS. They use their original windows OS!
After few days of playing I am thinking that this issue can be connected to eve internal web browser. Just a feeling, so here comes the question: Are there any known issues between eve and firefox I should know about?
About cedega I can say that it is gigantic failure for playing eve. It uses some ancient 0.3 version of wine, as its base and wine 1.0 out flies, out performs and out does it every time of day and night with high grades. Wine is the only dedicated platform for anyone, who seriously considers playing eve on Ubuntu. Cedega is medieval and only masochists will go for it. I played for one month windows classic client of eve on wine in Xubuntu and there in eve wasn't even a slightest glitch in game _after_ i reinstalled my nvidia graphic driver and it was working with linux in full harmony (it was pausing for 20 secs at gates for constant intervals and using internal browser was a frozen frame after frozen frame horror, but it worked 100% without single crash!). Harmony, which was broken obviously by two last patches and I have this uneasy feeling it may have something to do with web browser. I tried cedega and linux eve client for VERY limited time and eve was crashing minimum 10 times a day without any obvious reason or obvious cause. Though as a cause launching drones was 100% sure crash giver with cedega. Cedega sux at eve gaming. I suggest everyone just erase hd space where cedega was a secure way like a parasite or virus and move all their eve gaming to painless and superbly stable wine 1.0 asap. I ensure you wine is the only way to play eve on Xubuntu. |
