Hi,
I want to go solo in lowsec, and i've got these choices. Which do you think is the best?
Raven - maxed Cal BS, maxed torp... Tempest - all gunnery at 4 or 5, no t2 guns Sleipnir - CS at 4, gunnery at 4 or 5, t2 autocannons Typhoon - gunnery at 4 or 5, torpz maxed ?? drake? (maxed), nighthawk? sucks...right?...cerb? nah....
Which do you think is the best in terms of ( when using t2 items or just some faction replacements for the t1... )
1) damage output 2) tankability 3) survivability 4) ??
Thx a lot for your advice in advance...

Torp Raven is good.
HAM Drake is good.
Nighthawk is a nice ship, but very expencive.
The other ones I know not.

Edited by: Cpt Branko on 02/10/2008 12:01:54 Drake or Raven/Typhoon out of the given choices.
Sleipnir has too much of a 'gtfo' factor for people you want to meet when solo and too much of a 'omg, Sleipnir, get here now' for people you don't want to. If nanoed, maybe. As a friend said, scares targets faster then ****ing on electrified wire, while being a yummy target for gangs.
Typhoon / Raven are both very good BS, I'd say the Typhoon has a more solo-friendly layout, easier to fit a neut or two to shake off ceptors and small stuff as well.
Drake is a awesome BC, very good gank, awesome buffer, works in the solo ganker role quite well. Relatively hard to fit in a HAM setup (which you want).
Originally by: Rajere Maelstrom, Rokh, Hyperion. lowsec = active tank, if you want to use a BS i'd suggest a Hyperion or Maelstrom.
Buffer tanks also work, as long as you're not gatecamping. Maelstorm is a sub-par choice for a solo active tank BS, it has a very weak tank if fit with point/web (and MWD would be nice too, making it a two-slot tank), Hyperion is better for this. Tier 3 BS tend to lack a spare slot for a neutralizer however, which can be a issue sometimes. Dominix is awesome for solo work in the cirrumstances.

Lonesome battleships tend to die quickly unless they have at least a scout.
Pick the cheapest of your options and never engage a HAC or another BS under sentry fire if you are not sure that the other pilot is an absolute noob...

This.
Never engage anything of your own size (or can keep you pinned taking sentries for long) or two ships one size down under sentries, it's a recipe for disaster unless the target is a total noob.

Faction ACs? Don't do that ;P Use best named till you get T2.
As for ogres, well... you really want to brush up on those drone skills if you want to fly Typhoons often. Ogre IIs are a major DPS boost, and you need all you can get when soloing in a BS.
A fit like this could work quite well:
4x T2 siege launchers 3x D450mm ACs (best named in your case) Heavy Unstable neut
100MN MWD II Stasis Webifier II (or best named) Warp Disruptor II Conjuctive ECCM
2x 1600mm RT 2x EANM II DC II 2x BCU II
Rigs: 3x Trimark I
6x Ogre I (preferably II though)

Is the ECCM nessecary? I would love to have a cap booster innit, and some Large armor reppers actually...

I'd say so personally. Doesn't protect you much vs ECM ships, but it might buy you a cycle of not being jammed if a ECM ship got in late (thereby sometimes enabling you to score a kill you would not have otherwise), and it does do a decent job protecting vs ECM drones.

Well, the issue is, you run out of grid (and, if I recall correctly, CPU) trying to fit a LAR + heavy cap booster. I'd just carry one in your hold for post-fight repairs, plenty of stations in low-sec to dock & refit in.

Low sec solo pvp in a bs is a bad way to go imo... unless you have lots of isk and can bare geting blobed by 5-10 shity little nano cruisers every other engagment who will keep u pined for a boring 10 min beny hill.
Torps are fleet weapons i personaly think, most decent players know how to best avoid them either by relying on the small sig or staying over 1-2kms. If i was to do solo bs myself id probably go with a dual neut tempest with the cheap faction web and overload it to 15-16k or so or with a sniper fit and just try to pop smaller ships. Ofc if you know the low sec system very well and you know who the main gangs of blobers are from the avg joe it would open up more opertunity for a gank hit and run raven/phoon.. but roaming into the unkown ud probably die from the standard falcon falcon falcon random phew dmg ships. Its your isk and your game at the end of the day though

Marked the failure.
If you go to Low Sec with a solo BS prepare and fit for a fight and you get one, HAM Drake and Torp Raven arnŠt this bad, Mealstorm and Phoon also are also quite nice ships.
Active Tank yes/no depends on the ship and your playstyle. Personaly would not active Tank a Raven/Drake or Phoon(max a hybrid Tank with one Rep + 1-2 Plates) while Mealstorm is actualy quite good with a active Tank but sacrivices mobility/flexiblity for it(Meds).
I personal prefere a light buffer with maximum gank(Mega) what works out quite good for a fast solo kill. Also donŠt stick on a gate/station to long, most people think this is a good idea but trust me it is not, since you give people time to get some support to kill you etc.
Most effective way is go in and grap a fight and do it quick, heavy DPS also helpes to nail other BS, T2 Ships or Passive Tanks like Drakes/Hics quick even under Sentry aggro, before you get to mutch company.
Good luck.

I love how you describe it mate...I've been doing quite some weeks in FW systems solo, so the experience is present. At least for those regions...Can you give me a dual neut tempest fit? Thx!

low sec has a lot of blobs(especially of the fw variety) these days and trying to solo in a BC or BS is fairly suicidal. I'd suggest a recon or inty to start out.

Got that right!
I took an interceptor out into 0.0 for a spin a few days ago and nearly every single gate had numerous deployables sitting in the trajectories. My run ended at or around 7 gates into it, then I got caught and popped(long live jump clones!).
I don't know if it's me or not, but in the 4 months I've been here, it seem as though bubble activity is at an all time high lately.

Edited by: Makavelia on 02/10/2008 13:24:15 If i was going to do it id probably go with somthing like this.. but the dps is very shaby and id much rather just use my hurricane at a cheaper cost but more dmg.. little less effective hp but who cares.. blob is a blob.. your dead.
2x gyro t2 1600mm tungsten dc t2 x2 ean t2
Mwd dis t2 cheapest faction web (12k 15.6k overloaded) think they was like 15 mil last time i looked cap booster (random item extra web or eccm)
6x 650mm scout (or t2 if u have) - faction emp 1x large neut 1x medium neut
5x valk t2
Rigs.. guess trimarks if you have the isk but id probably settle with cheaper resitence ones or perhaps even 3x tracking rigs.
i get 520dps with my skills pluss the neut dmg.. not great but i really couldnt see it being a problem to kill any bc with this. You could also kill a mega solo if u can take out his heavys and orbit him long and fast enuf till uve sucked his cap (ofc every mega piolit will tell me to stfu now)
anyway most those battles will take 30 seconds through to 2 min.. no way your fighting that long withought more people jumping in gl 0/

I'd always advise using a scout to avoid blobs/camps when flying a BS. Unscouted BS means you'll die relatively frequently in the blobbier areas of low-sec, particularly as a flashing red (which enables people to use fast lockers / recons / etc on gates easily).
As for your fit - resistance rigs are not really cheaper then trimarks and are totally not worth the cost given how much more trimarks give you over them. Also, if fitting a Tempest with neuts, dual heavy are the way to go. The ability to insta-zap a cruiser hull is why you're fitting two anyway

My advice is to stick with small, cheap ships like assault frigs, stealth bombers and interceptors until you can answer this question yourself. You're just asking to get ganged hard solo'ing in a BS in low sec and none of the ships you list are incredibly good at solo work. In fact, unless you can overload relatively well and afford good implants and are max skilled in whatever ship you're in I'd probably not do any solo work.
Edited to add : ...Other than taking out lolmining caracals and such.

Tempest is a popular choice. You might not think so when you look at the hordes of n00bs whining about it but it is CHEAP, can fit SB (byebye ecm drones), NEUT (makes anything cry), full tackle (webs, points, mwd) and has good neut resistance (no cap use for weapons). In soloing one of the key things is versitility (nr 4 on your list). Tempest wins that by good amount compared to many ships.

Maybe i misunderstood but i was under the impresion that u cannot neut them if they have less cap than the neut your draining them with so maybe 2 heavy neuts will have a bigger effect v a domi but vs say a mrym i think large/med would do more dmg to him as his reps rely on smaller amounts of cap... dont hold me to that.. if im wrong then ty for clearing it up

there is also no way to fit all of that and the geddon has 8 lows not 7 a mwd has no place on the geddon unless u really know what you are doing
use dual heavy pulses or a mix of duals and megapulse , all megapulse will not fit if you use plates and repper and will generaly leave you with little or no tank a cap booster is a must, even a medium one is ok if you have that good cap skills

LOL. If I never engaged stuff my size or larger, or outnumbered on a gate under sentry fire, I'd never get any kills.

Hyperion is the best solo BS in the game, particularly for low sec and particularly around gates and stations. No other ship has it's capacity for flexibility, DPS and tank. However, you have to be max skilled and use the best that Eve has to offer for it to work.
