I generally loot and salvage all my missions including lvl 3's, and can complete the mission and loot and still get the time bonus!
Looting and salvaging (as im sure you know) adds a considerable sum to the isk reward you get from the agent. I have a destroyer (Catalyst) at my agents station and before ending the mission quickly swap ships and go straight out and salvage etc. Or if theres a belt i get the Hulk out and mine it all!
It may also be an idea to get a corp buddy to salvage the room(s) as you do the mission.
Anyhoo fly safe. -----------------------------------------------

Can't see the point in that, you make isk quicker just going onto another mission than mining high sec ores tbh.....

Who said anything about high-sec ores?
Mission rooms often have low sec ores readily available, in high sec zones.

Which missions, nacasius? I've never seen anything better than Omber in a mission field.

On level 3 missions it's a gamble if it's worth salvaging or not. To do the calculation, you have to add in a lot of variables - but the main is really how fast do you need/want to reach level 4 missions? Salvaging takes time, and if you already have the skills for doing level 4's and the ship - then do not salvage.
I would salvage if the mission had a fair amount of cruisers.

It's worth it if the mission is somebody else's.

I usually do unless I do not have the time. The one tractor beam on my drake allows me to loot wreaks as I do the missions in those cases.

You know that kernite and Gneiss spawn in some missions, right? And in large quantities?

Dunno about the ones with Japspet and Hedg ( I suspect Level IVs), but the one that spawns Gneiss is "New Frontiers", level 3, part 1 of 7. Spawns about 12 roids, not counting the actual mission target.

It's worth salvaging - use a specialized salvage ship though, as the quantity of loot in some missions is quite large.
Put it this way: I get enough Ward Consoles in one area to seriously consider going into Core Field Purger 1 manufacture and sale - all level 3 missions, too :)

I generally DON'T loot missions. The rationale: In the time I spend looting and salvaging, I could have run another mission, for more reward, bounties, standing and LP. The real reason: I think it's boring and I'm lazy...
What's most profitable depends on the mission, really. Rogue drone missions or missions against rival empires are worth very little if you don't loot them, the salvage on Angel missions can really make your day (YAY! Trit bars!), but in Serpentis missions the payoff is in the bounties...
One thing: If you're mainly running lvl3s to get to level4s as fast as possible, don't loot. Standing will go MUCH faster if you just fly another mission instead.

I generally loot all missions (yes even Serpentis), but that's because I don't bother selling 99% of the loot. I melt it all down and use the minerals instead. If you think I'm crazy, consider the following. My most recent goal is to build a carrier using only minerals acquired in that manner, and I'm halfway there already. ___

I once had a 3000 unit chunk of Arkonor spawn in a low level Storyline mission - it took me me about an hour and a half to mine it dry.
Here's a screenshot....

Looting and salvaging L3 missions helps you pay for better gear so you can run L4s much better, so don't skip it. Just like training for a bigger ship really fast if you can't put anything on it doesn't make sense, neither does being able to run L4s if you don't have the right skills or mods to survive L4s.

Loot? Only vs navies (tags)
Salvage? Yes on the missions where the enemy has good salvage ... and is'nt further than 3 jumps away. ---
