So I want to consider getting into building T2 ships. It seems the BPCs on contracts all have the same waste factor of 50% . -4,-4.
Is it normal to just buy them off like this and then have it researched to reduce the waste? What is it about the invention process that defaults all T2 BPCs to -4,-4 ? |

1. All invented T2 BPCs have these ME/PE values, unless a decryptor is used to alter the properties of the invented job (more run, better ME/PE, etc) 2. You can't research copies, only originals. 3. Yes it's normal, unless you use or pay someone to use decryptors -OR- buy a BPO -OR- pay someone with a BPO to make you a copy of their BPO. |

What I have found out by comparing some blueprints are modular's typically small to medium will not see too much of a difference from -4 upwards. The more minerals that are used in the bigger the project you need a higher mineral efficiency.
I always use EveMon to compare blueprints before buying them or put in them in the oven for an invention.
i hope this helps |

As Katja Faith said, it's just how invention works.
The /best/ you'll get is -1 ME. That's using a decryptor like Collision Measurements ( http://eve-marketdata.com/price_check.php?type_name_header=Collision+Measurements )
At 7 million, it's not really worth it for most modules.
On the other hand, many of the materials in a T2 BPC are 'extra materials'. Which are unaffected by ME waste.
If you want to play with the numbers, have a look at the blueprint calculator on my site, and you'll see what I mean.
For an Adaptive Invulnerability Field II, the difference between -4 ME and perfect is about 60k isk. So for 10 units, that's be 600k. A vast difference between that and 7 million. FuzzWork Enterprises http://www.fuzzwork.co.uk/ Blueprint calculator and other 'useful' utilities. |

On a 10% base waste BPC:
ME -4 = 50% waste ME -3 = 40% waste ME -2 = 30% waste ME -1 = 20% waste ME 0 = 10% waste
Note that materials marked as extra in a manufacturing quote are not subject to any waste (you don't need any materials to get a quote).
I don't use decryptors with ammo or modules, so -4 / -4 is normal for those. With rigs and ships, using a decryptor depends on the material cost reduction and invention cost reduction, if any. Decryptors are expensive, so only use them when it benefits you.
I rarely use a meta 4 item to improve invention chance. In fact, I only do so for one module I produce, because that meta 4 is dirt cheap. Again, it is a cost vs. benefit situation. I don't bother using meta 1-3.
