Edited by: Lucius Caine on 10/10/2008 03:34:59 I've heard that essentially the government of Iceland is bankrupt and is looking to the IMF for support. I also have read that most of the major banks in Iceland are now insolvent and was just wondering if this was going to affect CCP in anyway?
Hope all the employee's are doing well!!

evidently, iceland is now treated as a terrorist organisation by the UK for failing to protect UK savers.
Remarkably, Gordon Brown says:
"We are freezing the assets of Icelandic companies in the United Kingdom where we can. We will take further action against the Icelandic authorities wherever that is necessary to recover money." |

I hope they don't seize the EVE servers. I'm setting a long skill training just in case. o0 |

How would that help if they took the servers? |

yeah, and when i heard about the whole topic of the UK hating on iceland in this iceland-bankruptcy-crisis i did wonder if this situation would have an effect on CCP. ____________________________________ dis mah sig |

It probably depends on who owns CCP. If it's entirely held in private hands and has no significant debt to Icelandic banks then it becomes harder (I assume) to seize it. In effect you'd be taking private property to pay for government debt which sounds dubious to me.
Sadly the authorities are quite happy to do that (or something very similar) with their own population so who knows
It also depends on how sensible the authorities are (lol). The Eve cluster is only valuable for as long as CCP allow it to remain so. They can pull the plug on it any time they want and hopefully the authorities will realise that.
Lastly:Killing an international service like Eve-Online will not help the UK economy long term. We are dependant on our service sector and making international companies think twice about placing their servers here is a bad move. -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran, 4+ years)

Quote: That leaves another option: applying to join the European Union and adopting the euro. Because Iceland is already part of the European Economic Area, a looser trading group, it abides by many European Union rules.
Nice! So finally EUROPEAN players can enjoy CHEAP EVE too? c/d???
