I'm tired of fleet engagements being limited to hordes of battleships with a dozen so dreadnaughts being zerg-fests until someone bring about a doomsday titan.
Having thought at why this is so I came to the conclusion that it is because the game has classified and provided the gamers with either super-heavy and expensive ships and with not-so heavy but averagely affordable medium damage ships and then with very light damage vessels.
There is no 'heavy' damage ship or 'medium damage' in between to balance the equation. Hence why we have people clustering with battleship type vessels in great numbers with a few super-sized dreads and carriers and only a small number of lighter craft in fleet fights.
Here's what I propose to change this:
Re-classify:
Frigates as FIGHTERS Destroyers as Frigates Cruisers as Destroyers Battlecruisers as Cruisers Battleships as Battlecruisers Dreadnaughts as Battleships Titans as Dreadnaughts Carriers retain their Carrier role.
Introduce a new ship type to replace the titan: Starbase (or mothership. In short, a Rorqual type vessel). Extremely heavy tank, massive support abilities, few offensive abilities. Doomdsay device on this ship = self destruct.
Ship costs and material recipes should be changed accordingly. The Dreadnaughts (ex-titans) would not have clone bays or any mothership-type support abilities as those go into the new mothership-type ship type vessel) nor do they have doomsday device.
What this will do is add the medium and heavy damage dealers into any fleet engament as the new battleships will be ~300mill is ex-dreadnaughts and they require a LOT of support to function. That support comes in the form of the 50 mill'ish ex-battleships along with the 5-10 mill isk ex-battlecruisers sporting support from the less than 2 mill isk cruisers, frigates and fighters.
In short, it allows fleet engagements to not only be BIG and massive but also AFFORDABLE and requiring a combination of all ship types to succeed as the bigger the ship the more vulnerable it is to the smaller ship types. |

So how does this do anything except reinforce the trend upwards to Cap's online. 300M Dreads and carriers is a horrible idea, as is 50m fleet BS.
Also people really need to stop proposing the idea that the Doomsday device self destructs the titan. Its been proposed too many times to count, and it still a crap idea, all that will do is completely eliminate the chance of getting a titan kill mail, as they will just wait until their already in structure and surely going to die anyway to use it.
I think your misunderstanding the role of capital ships. The dreadnought is not supposed to be a fleet fighting vessel, it says right in its description that its made for long extended sieges ie: pos battles.
