It is often said that Band of Brothers and their various allies, who together comprise that which we call the Greater Bob Community are the closest thing we have in Eve Online to an "Evil Empire". I should like put forward the view in this post that far from being the malevolent and wholly destructive force they might be viewed in a different light.
It seems to me and I hope that you will come to the same opinion, that this MAX campaign has hidden within it, a great benevolence. It is, we might say quite sincerely, a service to Eve Online.
In order for me to convince you of this opinion, an opinion that might be radically different from your own already existing bias, I must give you my assessment of the "MAX" campaign.
It has been said by many that if the North falls, there will be no entity or collective group of entities strong enough to oppose the GBC. This is correct. However, what is incorrect about the stating of such facts is that which is often implied. That which is implied, is that the GBC has a desire to directly control the North. This is incorrect.
Once the North is removed, and its removal was only ever an inevitability I assure you. We shall then see the emergence of many new alliances and corporations inhabiting the space left empty. That which was once stagnant shall be brought to life, and such a rebirth can only happen when the Northern Coalition is removed entirely.
The Northern Coalition existence is an affront to the general spirit of Eve online, it's existence is intolerable. We might rightly use an analogy for the North, a North that is soon to be forgotten, soon to be purged, soon to no longer exist. The analogy is one of a stagnant pond, in which only life that is small, pitiful and parasitic lives. In its existence it is a breeding ground for those creatures that might spread their disease to others. It is worse than this though, for even though these Northern entities are diseased, they view their affliction as health and in their error they hope to make everyone as "healthy" as them. It seems a duty to remove such people, so that those more worthy might replace them. They are, space holders unworthy of space.
I do not think anyone could disagree with the idea that the North after the MAX campaign will be a far more vibrant place, with far more opportunity for smaller alliances and corporations to thrive. If this were the only reason for the MAX campaign it would legitimise, justify and vindicate it entirely.
Ask yourself what the Northern Coalition is fighting for, it is but the right to exist in a wretched state,
I urge you, and here I speak to those who do not hold space but hope to or those that wish for new opportunities. I urge you to realise that the North will be a land of opportunities for all when this campaign is over.
One might, if the facts I have stated up until now are accepted come to view the MAX campaign in a different light. It is not a grasping piece of Imperialism, or a wholly destructive campaign, but the forging fire of a new North with opportunities for all, except those who might return it to its old primitive ways.
We might view MAX as a civilising campaign, we might consider it an almost medical procedure, removing that which is cancerous and vile from the existence. We might do that, and we'd probably be right.
I'd like you all to use this thread to discuss the long and short term implications of the MAX campaign.
Discuss.

Edited by: bulabuba on 10/10/2008 18:52:35 Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Here's how it has gone for the last two plus years, and here's how it will go again:
BoB is going to sweep through.
Their hangers-on are going to ride their coat-tails in.
BoB is going to get beaten back, otherwise occupied, or both.
The hangers on are going to get slaughtered, and BoB won't care.
The same old mega-power (perhaps under a new name) or some different mega-power will end up with the space. Rinse-repeat.
Same happened in the South. Same happened when the MC (then allied with BoB) rode through the North last time.
If you're one of BoB's butt-boys, all I can say is enjoy it while it lasts, 'cause unless something changes radically, it won't last long. -----------------------------------------------
Are GoonSwarm ever going to be allowed to build up in any way in 0.0 space again? No.

That is some quality random letter generator you got there.
But if you are actually serious... how beneficial would it be for eve if bob gets removed, too? (no need to argue that it would be great if goons where removed)

a) You make it out that the NC is a homogeneous group of alliances, they're not you silly alt.
b) Defeat for the NC is not certain. MM for example looks very determined to hang on to their space and to date has actually fought for it. (even if they have called everyone and their dog to help).
c) If you think BoB have a magnanimous bone in its body then you really should just quit EVE now. |

What will happen once the north has been shattered? Bob will shatter the next alliance , and the next and the next. Only small alliances that do as they are told will be left - the instant they oppose Bob they will be stamped on.
It's Bob at the moment, but it could be AAA or another super-alliance. One day some super alliance will dominate all of 0.0, squeezing out any relavent competition - then eve will die. Just look at the Chinese server as a precedent.

Hey ... I have had a great idea ... why don't the righteous GBC simply disband ... this will have exactly the same effect as the one you went to such great lengths to spell out to everyone ... only it will be a choice rather than having the will of others thrown upon them.

Hi,
If this is an attempt to boost home base morale (BoB), then, fail.

Pretty good post really. Surprisingly insightful too. The north has become very stagnant, and I do think it's pretty clear from Bob's attitude that they dont give a shit about getting more stations up north but more destroying the existing entities up there.
The north will be a lot better off after it should be a lot more vibrant.

Yeah, everybody should luv the GBC and MAX and hate the NC, Debbie! Because Bob does such a great service to the EVE Community. They even give milk to the poor children enslaved by the NC! Everybody should support Bob because they're so nice. No no, Bob don't want to directly control the North (and the South and the rest of EVE). It's only the community aspect.
Seriously, you want to discuss the long term implications of MAX? That is easy: Bobtrain becomes bigger, has one less enemy and can focus the next bigger entity. The (weak) entity willing to settle the North has to pay. Period.

poor misinformed deklein debbie....
little do you realize all bob is gonna do is keep wiping out these small alliances that try to take root in the north, unless the submit themselves to pet-dom? bob will keep sweeping around the north killing whatever grows because bob will never grow the pair to go toe to toe with the goons
summary, bob aren't doing a favor to eve, they are assuring its permanently stagnant, unless they get a cut of the growth
