I'm busily training skills so I can be a competent Rupture pilot and I would like to hear the advice of those more familiar with the ship concerning the roles of a rupture.
I am considering two main roles, pure gank (t2 guns/t2 drones) and gank+support (t2 guns/ecm drones of various flavors).
I am also considering two different activities, small gang warfare in empire/low sec, and solo pirate in low sec.
Using EFT I can come up with some good fits in each of those roles, but which role is better suited to the activities I am interested in?
Thanks in advance for any advice and pointers!

With the Rupture you'll be armor tanking (probably a plate setup), if you aren't using some sort nano thing. Either way you'll have two mids free after your speed mod. If you aren't fitting tackle, fit ECM if you want to do support. ECM mods have a much better chance of hitting that ECM drones.

Are you suggesting then to stick with combat drones?

IMO there's only two real Rupture fits: 800 plate/220s/HAMs and 1600 plate/D180/Assaults. For solo piracy, I'd def go with the ECM drones... but for small gang I probably wouldn't.
If you don't intend to tackle, I'd fit a pair of TDs instead of web/point.

Edited by: Dirk Magnum on 12/10/2008 02:33:05 Honestly you can utilize standard assault launchers to take down the targets that you'd take down with drones. Personally I'd only fit ECM drones if I had a substitute for drone damage, and wasn't fitting any actual ECM mods. That's of course assuming a 30m drone bay. For something like a Thorax I might consider two flights of light drones, one being combat and the other ECM.
But when you're talking about solo ops, then IMO ECM is merely a method of breaking their scram lock so you can bug out if things go bad. TD's are better EWar if you plan to stick it out to the bitter end.

Ok the only setup worth a grain of salt is: 1600plate and D180II's, I use either small nos and nuet in the highs, or a couple rocket II's, they put out more dps than assult launchers in close fire, I know you lose a little gank, but it dont make a major difference anyway.
Ecm drones are the only thing worth putting in your drone bay IMO, as they will aid in taking down ANY other t1 cruiser and smaller, theyll also take out NOOBS in BC's. always fly with barrage in your turrets, and always keep an hail, and RF emp in the cargo.
Ruptures are great in solo piracy, and for small gang gank work you can lose the EANM for another gyro and get more gank.
For confirmation ask Zode from the bastards about losing his vexor to a rupture, was a close fight but the ruppy still wins.

uh why D180s, when 220's will fit on a 1600 plate tank, especially if you're just using utility high's for rockets or small nos/neut? How to Fail at Eve

the fit is actually a mix of both of those, falloff rigs increases the PG need too :( -sig-
Support the introduction of Blaze M crystals for Amarr!

D180's give you alot better tracking for a very minimal DPS loss (20 DPS with 2 gyros). On top of that, you get alot of fittings (opening up D180's+Rockets+Ambits or D180's+Assaults).
D180's are also cheaper.

I'm famous :D
If its we're talking about the same fight, it was very good and close. I recon I could have had you if I stayed closed and kept spaming my lock rather than trying to run when I hit strucutre and get my lock just as I get out of my own range lol. Was a very good fight although I was gutted about losing some mods I was carring for another ship. Hope to see you again at some point o/

ah I see, ambits. I wouldn't benefit from putting ambits on there with the way I fly rupture, even if I did it'd be difficult to justify, ambits are what, 6mil? Ruptures are 5? I wouldn't bother rigging a t1 cruiser, used to back when shield resist rigs were selling for 1mil each, for like a moa or something, but even they've crept up to about 2.5mil or so.
If you're not using ambits the difference in tracking is neglible compared to the difference in DPS and optimal range on 180s to 220s, especially with 3x gyro's :) though I guess price is a concern, i've always had people to build either, didn't know there was a price difference.

Hey, thanks for all the responses. I've already made a few changes to my training schedule. I'll be going for ECM drones pretty much as a top priority, then t2 medium guns, and finally t2 combat drones for some versatility.

I was about to make a post similiar to this so I'm glad it's here! THX FOR ALL THE INFO!
One quick question though. I'm a complete noob when it comes to ECM... What drones would I pick?
