Great, New players get Certificates, and they lose Ghost Training. They will roll over real fine with them knowing they are out of $$$ and time spent on skill training.

Looks rather nice. Just a quick q. Are prepreqs set in stone?
Reason I ask, is I can't actually think of a single ship that uses Multitasking 5, which is a prereq for 'elite core targeting' (and the top tier ewar stuff in turn).
I like the implementation of 'em though, and think it's a nice idea. I also think there's room for 'ship class' specific certs. -- Crane needs more grid 249km locking? |

I like this - provided it's well done it should help make things a little less confusing for newbies, and as long as the certificates themselves have no gamplay effect then I see no downsides.

I guess no one ever told you that you can't use a word to define itself? X=X+1 only works in programming.. nerds ;p.

Looks like a hit and something that can be added to as time goes on as some have posted above. Of the top of my head some ideas have popped up:
1) Adding certificates to the EVE Store for players to buy. 2) Reward the player who manages to achieve the goal of acquiring ALL certificates (in game news article and a special certificate of achievement). 3) Odd certificates just for the fun of it - such as skills which do nothing, high level skills in say caldari ships coupled with high level skills in energy weapons. The point being these 'fun' certficates are just for fun and nothing else.
I would also strongly argue for the ability to be able to 'hang' the certificates on walls when WIS goes live or shortly thereafter.

Edited by: Braeriach on 13/10/2008 21:23:01 I'm in favour of this. How about three levels of scope for other people to look at your certs: private, public and corp...?
On a side note (and a bit off topic): player certs aren't on Sisi but it seems player decorations are...

Edited by: Strill on 13/10/2008 22:15:37 Some problems I've noticed:
- Projectile Cannon certifications require Controlled Bursts
- Drone Specialist certifications require Amarr Drone Specialization (a useless skill since amarr T2 heavy/scout drones are inferior in every way)
- Passive Shield Tanking requires Tactical Shield Manipulation.
- Logistics Chief requires remote shield, armor, and energy skills to qualify. That makes it useless as a way to see if someone's good at logistics. It should be split into three parts.

Edited by: Rosur on 13/10/2008 22:12:07 May be Certificates could be used as a skill que.
Buy the cirtificate you want (costs a bit more than the skills needed if borought seperatly) then you right click on the cirtificate and train skills. Once the training finished you will have all the skills on the cirtifcate and if your account goes inactive the tranning can stop till you reactivate it.
This would be cool as if you want 1 of the certificates you dont have to buy all the skills (as there included as part of the cirtificate) and you dont have to keep changing the short skills.

A suggestion:
Instead of just two options ("make them public" and "keep them private"), give us 4 options: private, corpmates can view, alliance can view, and public.
These certificates are going to replace the whole "I need to see your API" prerequisite for joining certain corps, and believe me, we will want our CEO's to see what we have, while at the same time preventing our enemies from seeing our skill weaknesses.
Anyway, EVEMON is still way better than this stuff, but I suppose it's a nice feature that we'll use, once you add it in for us.

Edited by: Akuma Tenshi on 13/10/2008 22:35:31 Certificates seems like a great idea in general, but there are some issues that would have to be addressed, most of which have been already named in this thread.
1. Custom Certs - a few people have already mention this and I can only agree with them. There need to be player created certs as no veteran player will be going after what CCP thinks is a good cert. And also mentioned the improvement for corps and alliances during recruiting, with giving out their own certs to candidates.
2. The public viewing option needs more then just private and public. Someone had a good idea before: "Private, Public, Corporation and Alliance" those would be good choices.
3. The option to hang them on the wall in when WIS goes live, although I personally wouldn't care about this feature much.

The overall idea is nothing special, but I dont see anything wrong with it.
I also support that corporations should be able to make custom certificates. Perhaps put them away in "corp-granted" section so they dont clutter everything up? It would also be fairly useful for fleet commanders in large corps. They could quickly tell what kind of ship they want a particular person in, and what ship they dont want that person in.

Shield Reinforcement Standard - Thermic Shield Compensation 3 missing as prereq. Shield Reinforcement Elite - Thermic Shield Compensation 5 missing as prereq. Battlespace Technician Elite - No prereqs listed, would guess this should be warfare link specialist lvl 5 and command ships lvl 5.
Is the Fleet Co-Ordinator Elite the most skill intensive of all the certificates?

So I hit the "claim all certificates" button on Sisi about 10 minutes ago and it's still going. How long should it take normally?
On a more general note, this sounds like a great idea and I look forward to seeing it on TQ.

Whoah - am I really the only one who thinks this is a horrible idea? :((
In a virtual enviroment that is intentionally open to scams, deceit and trickery, you plan to introduce a feature that provides others with official data upon a character, impossible to forge or manipulate? So far, it used to be possible to con one's way into most corps no matter their requirements because you could always photoshop a screenie to suit the requirements. Of course, it's everyone's choice to make the certificates public, but it's easy to see how there will be a pressure to do so. I've never scammed another player in this game, but if I get into an unfortunate situation where I would depend on deceit, I sure don't want that freedom removed from the game. Soon big brother-like alliance bureaucracies will start assembling files of all their pilots with that - is this really what players want?

Feedback:
Another confusing interface amongst the plethora of inadequate and confusing interfaces already on offer for the new (and established) player. I don't see how you expect this to help unless it has a TANGIBLE tie-in.
EVE is an information overload - this adds more information. Nice.
More evidence of a "let's shoe-horn semi-useful stuff into an already broken interface in the HOPE it will help, rather than fixing the whole thing" mentality.
Practically useless for an established player, unless it could be used as a batch-training mechanism for an alt- oh look, a floating pig! Wow. --- Not happy with something in EVE? An emo whine will doubtless help your cause. |

I am disappointed it does not include the option to have player created certificates (in some form). I have not delved into the extensive library of certificates as of yet, but I think it will have the result of players focusing on the Certificate as the best route to achieve a capability when the Cert either a) includes skills they don't need or b) is missing a set of alternative skills to the ones in the Cert.

I personally think this is a step in the right direction to help manage the massive confusion that is Skills for the first time player - this will help provide new players direction with respect to what to train for a given role as EVE has no class system to coddle them into some predefined skill tree.
However, I also agree, with a number of the other players, that there should be player defined certificates of some sort.
Rather than allowing these on a Corporation level, I would suggest permitting them on an Alliance level, where the certificate's name is forcibly prefixed by the alliance name to prevent namespace clashes with CCP defined certificates and between different alliances.
