I think it's all the same race of character with the same (presumably uber) gear. There are color differences in the characters skin from screen to screen, although that could just be differences beteween the computer monitors.

It all depends.
You've got computer geeks who make really good salaries and already have a lot of computers. If someone's making over 100k a year as a tech dude a few thousand bucks for a project is nothing.
The other thing about guys like this - is a lot of the time the cool part of the project was setting it all up. Once they've done that ... actually using something like that becomes work and they lose interest. Time to go on to some other geeky project to spend their free time.
I mean ... guys like this aren't dating super models to begin with ... so they've gotta have something to do with their time. It's like Car Nuts that really soup up and trick out their rides. I had a buddy like that. He'd find some old junker in someone's back yard with it's windshield poking up above the weeds (true story), haul it away and work on it until it was immaculate. Then he was bored with it - so he sold it. He got back any actual money he'd put into the thing but there was no way he ever recouped monetarily the time he spent on it. But - that's not what hobbies are about.
The guys with the radio controlled ships that shoot each other with compressed air BB guns are the same thing.
Don't make fun of other people's hobbies - if you have hobbies of your own - but how empty is a life where you can't just do something purely for the fun of it? If you wouldn't do something just because you were afraid some jack ass would call you a loser - then you are the loser.
If this guy had fun doing this - that's all that counts. Of course his wife might think differently (if he has one) but then that's one of the problems with wives ... the smart ones either don't marry some guy like this in the first place - or - they accept his little hobbies.
Now - if this guy was spending his kids lunch money to buy all that stuff, that would be different but from the looks of it - I doubt it.
I could have easily placed my MCSA books on my tower(s) and made it look good. I hardly opened em either. Either way, in general on the average, people will say this man has no life. It's either that or he'll do it to do it, then when it comes to game time he will dismantle it all.

This is pretty normal actually, because one keyboard/mouse controls all characters. Just like the character's gear being the same, because they all do the same so they get the same rewards

The most I've ever seen was team wizzy who ran 7 characters, one mezzer and 6 ice wizards in dark age. He'd flag a tower and people would rush to defend it. They'd all blindly run up the stairs, get cc'd then aoe'd to death in seconds.

I read another article about a boyfriend / girlfriend couple who ran a similar number of accounts. Neither had jobs but were "independently wealthy". Cannot find the link right now. If I do i will post it.
On another note. That guys room must get very hot. Hope he has an aircon unit.

Sheese and I thought I was getting bad with my 3 computers, one for each account. I don't make bad $$, but damn, it all gets expensive really quick. Subs, computers, maintenance, electric bill..etc...lol.
Eh well.. more power to those that can manage many multiple accounts. :)
Now if I could just get my girlfriend to get ONE Eve character!!!

i was playing in one of the WoW PvP battlegrounds not too long ago, and came across 4 identical characters (shamans) following a fifth. Everything they did was synchronised and I asked the main one of the 5 about it. It's called 'multiboxing' whereby one person controls multiple characters at the same time. It can involve more than one PC, it certainly needs one account and client per character, like with Eve I suppose, but he has some clever programs that allow different in-game macros, hot keys and button presses to do different things on different characters.
It seems like a very complicated and expensive way to play, although in a way it's easy to see an advantage and could be fun of itself. In that particular PvP battleground, each team has strategic points the opponents try to destroy...this guy with his 5 shaman held off over 20+ of the enemy team by himself He can also do 5-person instances by himself presumably, though it does seem a little anti-social for online games.
But 36 really is insane.
