I see some people prefer dual guns over others i wonder why.
Ex I would think a 250mm Rail would out damage a 150mm Dual Rail
Which would be better for PvE
Sorry making this short have class in 9 minutes got to run.
Thanks.

Dual Rails are misleading in name. They are really just the smallest of the variation, like Electrons in the Blaster category. They're the easiest to fit but have the least damage and range.

Damage isn't everything.
Sometimes a ship is constrained by powergrid, so the only weapon you can fit is the smallest, dual whatever.
Other times, other gun attributes are more important than damage: tracking for example, the smaller rails track slightly better than bigger versions. Not as well as blasters, but still, noticeably so.

Kk thanks ya i was doing the math and was figuring that if it was true DUAL and shot two rounds then ya its better then 250mm but it didnt make sense that it would do more damage but less req so i was confused.
Now i know thanks.

A 150mm rail is a Small weapon, the dual 150mm is a Medium.
Likewise a 250mm is a Medium, while a dual 250mm is a Large.
I've fitted dual 250mm on a Domi at times to reduce the amount of grid required, but as my fitting skills improved I changed to 350mm instead as they're better for hitting at range, which is what I wanted.

When it comes to rails, you generally want to get the biggest gun you can get which meets the minimum tracking speed of the targets you'll be fighting.
The tracking allows you to hit the target (which is most important) and the size of the gun determines the damage.
On my current thorax, I have 3 200MM guns and 2 Dual 150MM guns. The ammo for the guns is selected so that the optimal range of the 150's and 200's stay within a few km of each other (20-22km).
My original fit for the thorax had several 250mm guns + some 200mm guns and I skipped the dual 150MM's all together. Big mistake. The 250's really have trouble hitting targets that get close. Their tracking is about half that of the 150's. The mix of 200MM and dual 150MM guns seem to provide the right balance of hitting + damage, your results will vary depending on your ship, skills, targets, and desired optimal range.
Tracking computers/etc will help, but they can only do so much.

Yes. It is an obvious assumption to make that the 2x150mm Dual Railgun is analogous to the Assault Missile Launcher, which is a medium-scale weapons optimized for use against small-sized targets, i.e. an anti-frigate weapon to meant to be fit onto cruisers, but that assumption would be incorrect.
There are no guns that are equivalent to the Assault Missile Launcher, nor any drones.
