I've been playing, off and on, for about 2 years. Never once have I been ganked in hi-sec. Not once. Not even when i was a total noob. I'm beginning to think there's something wrong with me. Are my ships not good enough to get blown up?

It's not dangerous, per se. It's just that flying the wrong ship in the wrong place at the wrong time could lead to some pretty explosions. Especially if you're hauling expensive items in an industrial, or you're mining ice.

It takes a bit more of a brain to live in low sec.

Its dangerous in the sense that you don't know if one of those people in local are looking to gank you. In lowsec and null, its much easier to tell, since anyone that won't shoot you for the most part, is blue. |

My very first day in EVE, I undocked for the first time from a non starter station, Amarr, I think. I was all thrilled and exited, taking in the beauty and admiring the ships around me. Next thing I remember was waking up in my clone. I figured out later that it was some yahoos having fun with smartbombs.
It was a good lesson. I have not been ganked since in the 6 or 7 years I've been in the game.

well it's dangerous if you're an extremely stupid carebear who is also so lazy that you refuse to move ultra-expensive cargo in an orca or a durable ship or defend themselves or even just make multiple trips so yes a lot of chatter coming from highsec is players that are going on endlessly about how highsec is extremely dangerous |

In general, your ship isn't worth ganking unless there's a profit margin of some 50 mil per ganker for the suicide gankers.
Keep your fits below 1 bil in total value and you're safe.
For ships fit with officer/deadspace modules costing 1 billion+, it's only a matter of time before you get blown up.
And there is NOTHING you can do to prevent or pre-empt this. This is why high-sec is more dangerous than null. |

This.
I got lured in with the free-loot-in-a-can reel. I've been paranoid ever since. Which is one reason why I've never been ganked. The other reason is that I avoid Jita like an STD.
Come to think of it, hisec is a lot like hookers...to be totally safe you avoid them entirely. I like to lick things.

I've lost plenty of ships in HS, but all were my fault (stole loot from those at war, stayed in space too long after hoping for more). In 2 years of play though, never have I been ganked.
Wait... there was that one guy who ganked me in his Zealot with me in a salvager fit Inquisitor. I'm still scratching my head at that one. |

if your in safe alliance nullsec territory you can see all 3 people in local and know they are friendly
you have alliance intel so you know if anyone is near you at all to begin with
since its nullsec you assume anyone not blue is an enemy, therefore enemy in local = warp to safe spot and cloak, warp to a pos, or dock in a station
in highsec if someone is in local you can't assume he will kill you, or even can kill you it might be a frieghter or something
your mining, noobie frigate warps to your belt... is it a noob? or a suicide gank scout? you cant tell.. what if a guy warped to your belt cloaked? local has to many randoms to know if it happened.. then you die
many people have over 1bil isk a tornado cost 50mil or so a tornado can kill 2 mackinaws, or 1 hulk in 1 volley before concord kills them.. if a rich guy is bored, you can be killed even if your loot is worthless. in nullsec you have the protection of "don't know him, he is enemy"
finally, much of nullsec is empty... you can go days without seeing anyone if your in your blue space if you do see someone its a friendly.
nullsec is like a desert diamond mine, starved of supplies but money is great, sometimes random people try and kill you highsec is like a city, some people make it big, most work minimum wage lowsec is nullsec without the benefits. you CAN make more isk, but lots more people and worse mining and other stuff compared to null.

Piloting in high sec, low sec, null sec...sitting at your desk daydreaming; these can all be dangerous activities if not done correctly. I knew a kid once who could fall out of a kitchen chair without trying. He'd be sitting there, then you'd hear a sound like a bag of bones hitting the floor. He was as amazed as the rest of us!
I'm giving a course on situational awareness beginning in May. It's only 100 billion ISK for two weeks. Sign up. I'll show you how to make hi sec dangerous. Anyone with any sense has already left town. |

How hard is it to gank a freighter in High sec?
Also, how can i know that a courier mission is a trap in the list of contracts offered? how to recognise them? |

Courier missions may not all be scams but I have never seen one worth the time. Calculate by jump how much you will make. Look at route. It might now be a "scam" in the traditional sense but chances are it's a waste of time. Ganking a lone freighter in .5 sec is usually done because the freighter is on autopilot. If you are mashing the buttonss to make that trip, hitting wapr at every concord pop, the chances of someone getting your hull down is very low. Unless they are willing to lose 20 battlecruisers or battleships in a full volley takedown. Mechanic 5, you have a million hitpoints between them and an insurance mail.
