Say I'm mining and I'm using a ship to mine with and dump its cargo, eject, and come back with a hauler. How long will that empty ship last. And how long will a purchased cargo container last in space?
Anyone know?

Ells, Check that other post we were talking in. You would not leave a ship unmanned in space.. park them both at the same station and return to the station to activate the alternating ship then return to your cargo pod of ore - the pods can hold an unlimited amount of ore.
On the other side of this question, I am not sure how long an unmanned ship could stay in space.. indefinitely? Interesting question... ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| bound to the confines of infinite space. ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| |

there are several ships floating outside stations where players have dumped them near my home base... They have been there for 3 days now... Very annoying. ---------------- ~= Askari =~

If you log off, a ship will disappear after 30 seconds. No such rules apply when you eject from it and leave in a pod, but if you do then anyone can board the ship in their pod if they wish. Ofcourse, with newbie ships, it doesn't matter.

Ejecting to go get another ship isnt a good idea, as any passing player can right click and they will get a board ship option. I think it might ruin your day to eject from a frigate or cruiser and return to find nothing or some newbie ship instead of your own.

Hmm, how do you recognize an empty ship from a full one or pirate?

The ship without a pilot will come up as "derelict". It's reasonable safe to eject out of the ship by a Moon or somesuch, and if you want more safety, go to a moon and then travel for 200km in a specific direction. Don't forget where you left it, though :-)
