So I've only been playing EvE for about two weeks or so and I'm so incredibly bored. I keep hearing that faction warfare is supposed to alleviate this boredom, but when I try to do that I get the message "Faction Join Denied".
"You can not join the faction for the following reason: You are not regarded highly enough by the faction. Your standing with the faction is only 0.00 but needs to be at least 0.5."
Um, ok then. What is standing and how do I raise it to 0.5?

You need to do missions that will raise your standing with the faction you want to join, with story line missions giving you the best increases. When you do missions you get two standing increases, one with the agent and one with the faction they belong to.
Note that there are skills you can train that will increase your standings. However, they will not help you in this particular case because your 'natural' standing is what is being reviewed when you try to join FW.

When you do missions for agents, they like you more and more, and the corp they belong to starts to like you some, and the race they belong to starts to like you a little. Also, their enemies start hating you proportionally.
Your "standings" towards any entity in the game are shown in your Character Sheet.
If you want to join the Caldari Militia, you need to do missions for an agent that belongs to a Caldari corporation (for example, Caldari Navy is a popular choice, although not the only one) until the entire Caldari State faction likes you at 0.5 or better.
Or, you can join a player corporation that already has the standing (their CEO and members have already done enough missions to be very well likedy by the Caldari State, and they have joined the militia with their entire corporation).

Um, ok then. Where can I find some of these Caldari Navy mission givers? I've been jumping from station to station, system to system and I either can't find any or don't know what I'm looking for specifically.

Pick Caldari Navy as the corp, pick the region you're in, and you can limit to level 1 or 2 since you probably won't have access to the higher ones. Then write down the names of a few that are nearby or in a good high-sec spot, and search for them in-game using the People and Places search box. Once found, you should be able to plot a course, dock, and get missions.

Storyline missions are the only way to get faction increase. The fastest way to get storylines is actually to do COSMOS agents. They have multi-part series of missions and the last one is always a storyline mission. Some of the mission series are only 3-4 missions long.
Regular agents give you a storyline mission after 16 regular missions. |

The tutorial only takes you up to .07 standing with the faction you do it for. I asked the same question in-game, and someone linked me this. It got me from .07 to .58 standing very quickly, and now i am getting wtfpwnd like a true pvp noob. It's a lot of fun though.

Edited by: Cyprus Black on 24/10/2008 01:35:41 So I guess the next question is if it's worth it. Participating in FW I mean.
Most of my skills are focused towards mining and industry, and it's my main source of income. If the drawbacks from FW is being open to attacks anywhere at anytime, then suddenly it doesn't seem worth the hassle. |

As long as you don't go too deep into enemy territory it really isn't an issue, from my (limited) experience. You really have to go looking for trouble. As for telling you that it is 'worth it'.. that is up to you, to each his own as they say.
