Should've made it a PC game (shooters with gamepad = lol) and should've self published instead of going through any of the "established" houses of mediocrity (MS, Sony, EA, ...).

You're aware that CCP have explicitly confirmed that the DUST client on the PS3 will support keyboard & mouse, right?
I'm told that you can plug a generic $10 USB KBM combo into a PS3; it doesn't require special hilariously overpriced SonyWareGäó equipment or anything. People have already given the reason, Microsoft was far more restrictive than Sony. That said, both suck, just for different reasons. In the end Sony was willing to work with CCP, MS wasn't.
Personally, I won't be playing it unless I get handed a PS3 (I won't spend 100+ on a system for one game), or it gets ported to PC. That's the one I'm really confused about, why won't they port it to PC? But oh well... maybe (hopefully) in the future. |

Got an xbox? if it came out on your console the graphics and gameplay would be half of what it is on ps3 as ps3 is a superior machine (dont rage at me because lets face it...it is)
Got a wii? hahahahaha
Got a pc? Go play planetside 2, its the same type of game
Got all of the above but no ps3? im sure you could sell them all and have enough for a ps3
Got a ps3? here, has a cookie on me.
What have i got? i got an xbox and a pc? what am i going to do about dust? borrow a friends ps3 and see if dust is any good. If its not then i will go back to my pc and play planetside 2 cos it will remind me of the good old days.

Sony - one of the most vile, despicable companies on this planet has been literally bending their customers over every single chance they get for the quite awhile now. Look at the PS3. They removed the backwards compatibility for one reason, so they could "remake" older games and resell them for more money.
Now, look at the rumors for the PS4. Absolutely no backwards compatibility. It looks like they are trying to completely destroy the reselling of games because games now require you to log in to PSN. If you resell, the person that buys the game will not have complete access to the game because the key is locked to the original owner's PSN.
Imagine if this worked with cars. You buy a used car but since you aren't the original owner the brakes won't work, ever. Have fun!
How does this bode with Dust514? When CCP ports it to PS4 will they continue support for the PS3 version or are we all going to get screwed once again?
How could you partner with such a reprehensible company CCP?
Yeah Sony have really screwed their customers over by providing them with free online play and a reliable system.
If there is one company that has a history of supporting old consoles after they released a new one, it's Sony. It cost time and money to make your console backwards compatible and not that many people care anyway. Stop playing Halo and read a book once i a while.

How could you partner with such a reprehensible company CCP? You sir are an idiot. please wake up and join reality before you post this nonsense. It is common knowledge in the gaming world EA, Microsoft and Sony want to kill the used video game market, this market does not generate any cash for them and they are greedy bastards. This is common knowledge to those that watch the Video game market. This is not a SONY only thing, this is across the board. The used game market takes profits out of their pockets is what the Higher ups at EA, Microsoft and SONY think. The next Xbox will not have backwards compatibility either. Justt like PS2, they will support PS3 for another year or so depending how PS4 sells. Is it me or does this OP seem to be screaming. "I have an Xbox360 and mommy and daddy told me NO when I asked them to buy me a PS3 for Dust" I don't own an xbox I own a ps3 and it's the last PoS I will ever buy from Sony.
PS3 is not POS stop it.. LoL
That's thing blows XBox360 out of the water and will probably have as much power as the next XBox release. Sony knows how to make consoles.
10 year shelf lives on all threee versions on the Playstation..

both Xbox 720 and PS4 (Orbis) wont allow the use of games resold so either way the OP's arguement is null & void.
Dust514 should really have been a PC title, as it is the only system that is not restricted in anyway similar to the console are. Everytime you buy something that says "made in china" you are helping the rising unemployment in your own country unless you are from china, Buy locally produced goods and help create more jobs. |

Both will be trying to get away from having actual disc anyhow. Sony knows the digital market is strong. The industry has been leaning more towards digital downloadable content for a whie now.
The reasons for yay/nay backwards compatibility are miny, it's just not very cost effective to be making PS1 games and burning them onto Blu and HDDVD for what?
They just make them digital then bam.. |

No PC support = obvious payout to CCP from sony. It's expected that many eve players who are interested in dust and do not have a ps3 will buy one. This is a win for sony and obviously the primary reason that it is exclusive on the ps3. It's not like console kiddies are going to play dust and instantly want to play a slow paced multi year investment game like eve...
Got to love smoke and mirror style marketing... I miss the less capitalistically corrupted ccp.

I own an original PS3 60G model. MINE is backwards enabled. Want to know the real reason they stripped the feature? It's because when the console was "New" they sent out a mass survey of what features gamers were using on their PS3... being able to play PS2 games wasn't one of those features. Go figure.
I completely agree the Xbox has a much better online experience (I own one as well)... however it's they themselves that ****** over the chance of DUST 514 appearing on their console. |

Here's a little something...
when I am not playing with guns, I pay the bills by working in the DRM industry. Though my employer does not have many game companies for clients - mostly engineering related software - I have set up numerous DRM and IP protection schemes and license control systems for many clients.
The worst part is this: the transfer of licenses is actually possible and easy when a system is configured for it. Our more honest clients - those who care about their customers - come to me with inquiries about license transfer all of the time.
So whatever "problem" that Sony and MS might be having with facilitating the transfer of licenses, and hence the movement of used software, is pure 100 percent BULLSHIT.
In fact, the transfer of licenses on the internet with the ability to speed along patches and modules along the same communications streams should ENHANCE the realm of used software, not impede it. I have spent countless hours setting up systems where one user can transfer a license and download credentials to another across the world, fully authenticated and encrypted (and hence no piracy possible) without even having to use complicated passwords.
I have worked in this field for a long time and any restrictions on use of software, "because of Piracy", makes as much sense as a government that searches your grandmother for bombs at the airport "because of terrism".
It's more than a lie, they are peeing down our backs and trying to tell us it's raining. And because of this, while I waited and wanted to try DUST for years now, and would have purchased a console just to do it, I have decided now that any organization doing business the way Sony is at this time is not going to get one penny of my money. They, as my late father said so much we almost put it on his headstone, "Can go f**k themselves". Unless DUST is going to PC, I am going to have to look at it like the cheerleader from high school that I never got to date: accept it and move on.
Sorry CCP.

"because of piracy" is based on companies collecting as much profit from digitally based "intellectual property" as possible. It's all about money.
Not going to really touch on the "because of terrorism" part as I'd like to avoid the potential **** storm that will be an internet based argument on the matter. However I can assure you that it's not about making more money.

That is quite a good point. It is software, so it could be in essence pirated, but then you get no diverse maps, no eve player support, essentially you need to be legit to get any of the fun and good stuff that eve is about. To the previous poster about licenced copy, very true about software being easy to transfer with limited registration. I have some tech software I use for automotive purposes. I can either just click a link and deactivate it on one pc, or I can just give a quick mail to their tech support if that isn't possible. Problem solved happy and dandy.
With xbox, stuff can get assigned to a user account. I have logged in my xbla on a different xbox and redownloaded stuff. on other xbox, I can access provided that I am logged in. |
