September 11th 2001 - 2011 WE WILL NEVER FORGET!
For all those veterans that was there down to the little noobs born after that fateful day so many years ago...
Ten years later, I can still remember that morning... I was still a young Lance Coolie, stationed at Marine Corps Base Hawaii. It was Section PT that Tuesday morning and we had PT at the base gym. It was around 0450, I was sitting outside waiting for the gym to open up and there were these two Jarheads standing around their car with the radio turned up listening in silence. The radio program was talking about the World Trade Centers, but I was preoccupied with other thoughts and wasn't really paying much mind to it, but it kept repeating that the Twin Towers had been struck by planes. A knot formed in the pit of my stomach as it dawned upon me that it was not just be some radio show program but was the news and that my mother works there (along with my uncle which I later found out that afternoon). When my Corporal arrived at the gym some minutes later, I was a few shades paler (which is quite a feat considering I'm Asian and living in Hawaii) and excused myself. I went back to the barracks to call and make sure my mother was alright. I remember the phone lines were so congested from all the traffic coming through NYC that I could not reach my mother until mid afternoon. Thankfully she and my uncle were alright, they apparently arrived there moments after the first plane had struck the North Tower, WTC 1. My mother which just emerged from the subway saw the massive black smoking hole coming from the tower and promptly turned around and went back downstairs and went to her mother's place. My uncle met up with her at my grandmother's place about the same time. Back on base in Hawaii, we were on high alert, machine gunners and snipers on roofs all over the place. the rest of the day went by with everyone near a radio.
I was lucky, I am fortunate to have a mother that has the lives of a cat... She escaped China during the Cultural Revolution after a failed attempt landed her and her family into a work camp for a year, swam all the way to Taiwan from the mainland to escape the second time. She then survived the first bombing at the trade center back in '93, fought and survived cancer between that and the second attack that felled the great towers. (I'm pretty sure if she played eve, she could dodge a bomb while inside a bubble with nothing but a rookie ship.) I didn't loose anyone close on that day, but I know friends that did.
I will never forget, that day is forever burned into my memory. That is my story, what's yours? |

I saw it on TV, but being an event far away in a different country I did not pay it all that much heed tbh. Though, it was a bit more serious then a random plane crash etc. It is alwasy a tradegy when life is lost due to the ignorance of others, religion in particular (all religion).
But, since then what has really shcoked me is US response to it. |

I was still very young when it happened. To young to understand the meaning behind this. Now that I am older and see so many tears about the towers by everyone in the world I finally noticed how hypocrite the western world is.
Every year we cry about 3000 people and we don't even give a rats ass about all the people dying in Africa atm because of civil war or food shortage. We also don't care about Syria were the government is using tanks to suppress the protesters. We don't care about the fact that on a yearly base 200.000 woman get raped in the capital of Congo according to the U.N. 3000 people is nothing in this world. ~ When everything fades away, an echo is the only sound that will remain ~ |

Frankly, Congo wouldn't be in the predicament it is with the mass rapes if not for ignorance and sheer zealous and blind faith. Syria? I follow it, and pray we help them out soon. But there's Libya still to worry about. The entire region is going crazy, and we have to tread very carefully to not make new enemies.
I'm not getting into Africa, because that mess is way too big a ball of wax to handle in a simple forum post. |

Every august 6th and august 9th I remember the worst acts of terrorism in the history of mankind, but I don't see the victims of said terror attacks crying for attention all over the ******* globe.
Also, on september 11 , I remember the birth of one of the worst dictatorships in modern history , wich incidentally was fully endorsed by the US government. As said above, not much attention is given to the anniversary of this event. |

War is hell. There's no denying that, how about the **** of Nanking? (really?! R A P E is a prohibited word?!) Where Japanese forces raped women and killed all regardless of age or gender? I hear french fried fingers and baby back ribs was a common occurrence there. For the U.S. it was either their lives or the Japanese. To look after your own is human nature. Or would you sacrifice your son or daughter so that your enemies' were spared? I was half expecting our Doomsday planes to start carpet bombing nukes at all the people that we didn't like or didn't trust and make the world like a fallout game... ahh... Dr. Strangelove, one heck of a movie. It would probably make the world a happier place to live in ... for all the survivors that is lol But I digress.
Some of the reasons why the world cried is because:
1) It was televised and made it possible for those normally not involved, feel like they were right there witnessing it first hand with the people that were in the streets.
2) Killing innocent people and children that were just working, minding their own business, not causing any intentional harm to any other living being is still frowned upon in just about any society.
3) The radicals were attacking EVERY way of life that was not THEIR way of life. Which by the way, is NOT YOUR way of life as well.
4) Aside from the public US Govt stances on world politics aside, the US is one of the biggest source of humanitarian aid around the world. Why don't you volunteer your free time with the Red Cross and see the rest of the world instead of criticizing everything? Too hard? Aww... Tell that to my cousin, I'm sure she'll understand.
5) A real human being has this emotion called empathy. Hell... even dogs have empathy. Are you saying that the bombings in Madrid were also alright to forget about? That those people that died were unimportant as well? Perhaps those that do not understand that are just chatbots or unicorns!
Which one are you?
If you are human and have a story you would like to share with the rest , please do so. Forums trolls, chatbots and unicorns please just don't comment. Although I am beginning to suspect having an intelligent conversation about something other than eve in the forums designed exactly for that would be above some people's ability. ...maybe I should ask a chatbot.
* PS: I celebrate August 9th every year! I throw a party with cake, alcohol and everything! It's my birthday after all lol.
*PPS: to Herzog: I loled, but I prefer this video instead http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8C-qIgbP9o&feature=autoplay&list=PLB78AE979713913ED&lf=BFa&playnext=1 |

I love they way you talk about the Americans. Like they never did any war crimes or kill innocent people? And about the 'intelligent conversation' part... it would really help if you didn't sound like a stereotype American for that matter.
But I see that this thread has derailed quite badly so lets go back on track shall we?

Given the US has the largest economy in the world thats not really saying that much
I agree that '9/11' was a huge tragedy and no country deserves something like to happen, but it does, Britain has felt its fair share 7/7 being the latest. Sure you must mourn the dead but there has to be a point when you let it slip into memory and the US needs to allow that to happen at somepoint. |

I wonder if I had posted a memory of what I remembered on the day of my daughter's birth, there would be so much off topic discussions such as on the politics of who did what to effect me being in the delivery room all night or why the nurse shut off the epidural minutes before giving birth, just long enough for it to wear off right before the contractions hit full force? Or perhaps that the miracle of birth is usually followed or preceded by a little poo, so that you are invariably born into a world of $#!t no matter how fast the nurses try to scoop it away from sight. Lmao! just think about that... your mother most likely dropped a deuce while giving birth to YOU! NOOOooooo! Then the thread might get derailed even further from someone saying that perhaps in some cases, the nurse got confused and swept the baby off the table and kept the poo and it eventually was raised up into the person he was insulting... Hmm... wow, I suppose that could easily be derailed as well...
I suppose what I was wanting to know was if you also have a story of tragedy and loss, did it affected you in any way as well? Did it change the way you viewed the world or changed the way you do things? Those events made me appreciate the small things in life, the family and friends that I still have. It made me somewhat more empathic to the needs of other people. I find myself more willing to help out a stranger on the street just for the feeling of gratitude that I made his or her day a little easier through a slight inconvenience to mine. Does that mean that I would not kill my worst enemy, chop him up into manageable sized pieces, boil the flesh off the bones, and feed it to the local wildlife and or his family, then bake the bones until they are brittle enough to pulverize into dust, then spread the dust in random distant locations and just have him fade from the face of the Earth? Most likely not, he'd probably be more useful as food to the homeless.
You're probably reading this and thinking WTF?! I don't blame you, I was just rambling while I waited for the eve patch to download. It gave me something to occupy my time with lol. Fly safe, have fun. |

Not really worth a serious answer. I can find better uses for my time than answering an internet stereotype.
I'll just drop this definition of terrorism. Source: USA Patriot Act
an act ""dangerous to human life"" that is a violation of the criminal laws of a state or the United States, if the act appears to be intended to: (i) intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination or kidnapping.
Look no further than your country to find multiple textbook examples of terror acts.
Feel free to share with us some more recycled propaganda. It will promptly be archived somewhere between "overused stereotypes" and "outdated internet memes".
EDIT: I like how you ignored the other part of the reply about the other 9/11 anniversary. But probably it's verboten to write about it on history books. |

History books are written by the victor or in this case 'the dominant' part of the world. And btw, don't use an European language in your post. You know they can't understand.
But the fact is that you can't bring up discussion about this subject because you don't have a neutral attitude in the first place.
*offtopic*
Fun facts about the so called *amazing* humanitarian aid America has to offer:
- in 2007 America ended on the 16th place of the humanitarian response index
- In general Europeans give twice as much money for humanitarian aid then Americans do.
