Originally by: Sochin stfu, scorps look cool as hell. The only problem with them is the fact that they're the slowest BS in the game even though they're also the smallest. They don't turn fast enough either, if moves so slowly at least make it turn faster :/.
Agreed.
I think the Raven is the best looking battleship out there. Forget pretty...it just looks mean. Like it is there to take care of business and ruin your enemy's day. Only the Typhoon looks more like it is meant to take care of a job rather than look 'pretty'.
As for the size thing it is not an inadequacy issue. It is an issue that my Raven being significantly smaller than, say, a Mega (park them side-by-side and see...the size difference is very apparent) outweighs it by 10,000,000 Kg. Flying next to my mate's Mega he outran me under normal power despite my having Nav 5 and him having Nav 4. Same goes for the Blackbird. ESPECIALLY for the Blackbird. Described by CCP itself as a ship that gives up durability in favor of maneuverability it is the heaviest, slowest cruiser in all of EVE. That's just wrong.
The Moa is just plain fugly. I flew one for months and never really could get used to the looks. It's not an asymmetry thing...it is a boring thing. A box with a crane attached.
And actually symmetry in a spaceship would be important in reality. Probes we send out today do not need to be symmetrical because they float along generally unpowered. In space keeping your ship symmetrical would vastly help your maneuverability since the mass distribution is easily predictable. This would affect what thrusters need to fire how hard and how long to achieve a stable, desired orientation. Start throwing stuff hapazardly all over the place and it makes it very weird to try and spin the ship in a controllable manner. Not that it couldn't be done but it would require more computing power and probably more engines (thrusters) to control well. Why add complexity when it is not necessary?
All of that said it is a game so such considerations matter not at all. All-in-all the ships in EVE are interesting and I've grown to like most of them the way they are.

You guys are all talking about caldari ships...
caldari ships are grey, bricklike and really, really boring. Of course they are ugly. Even a minmatar has more character than a caldari ship.
Personally i prefer the golden sleekness of amarr or the green lights of gallente.
I roleplay... there is this computer game called "Earth - The First Genesis" where i play a character in the early 21st century. |

Megas don't look like battleships. They look like some spaceship version of a retro 1970's pimp mobile. I keep expecting to see fuzzy dice and pink shag through the*****pit window on those things.
That said I fully respect what a Mega coming at me can mean regardless of what it looks like.

In my humble opinion, the Raven and the Scorpion are amongst the best looking ships in the game.
Symmetrical isn't necessary the same as beautiful. Symmetrical is expected, unoriginal, boring. The Caldari ships look like heavy metal warships.
Of course, it's all a matter of taste (for the record, I like most of the ships in the game). It's probably useless to rant about it. ------------------------------------------- "My main griveance with the Caldari state was that once I had finished my work for them, they wanted me dead."
"No, it's none of your business." |

Edited by: Wild Rho on 01/07/2004 17:11:31 The ships look awsome as they are with each race having its own distinct designs and setups that make them stand out from each other.
Amarrian go for mainly symetric but solid looking ships that lok like they could ram through a station if they took the notion. Again with the ship setups seem to be designed for doing and taking alot of damamge. In a word, solid.
Caldai ships looks small compact and advanced. Also the asymmetic look works pretty well with them, gives the impression they are designed for functionality, not for looks. As for setups caldari ships mainly seem designed for tactical combat heavily involved in e-warfare.
Gallante ships tend to have a semi organic look about them and seemed designed for more multipurpose roles with a good range of high, med and low slots as well as good cargo bay and or drone space.
Minmatar ships are easy to spot as they look like they've been assembled in a scrapyard. Dont really know anything about minmatar setups since Ive never even looked at what they can carry although the howitzers seemed poplular.
In other words why fix somthing that isnt broken. The ships look great and feel right. The only changes they could do would be to add more small details to them when peoples computers can handle it.
I have the body of a supermodel. I just can't remember where I left it... |

Megathron look like GIANT RIFTER to Weirda (and thusly one of the coolest)! Too bad it isn't a Mimnatar ship... the Galliente obviously learn from the coolness of Mimnatar design though!
As for symmetry in space...
Cassini look Mimnatar... and asymetric...

Caldari battleships need better textures, imnsho, especially the Raven. Amarr (Apoc) and Minmatar battleships have some of the best and most detailed textures among the BS in the game. Gallente and Caldari are laggin' behind in that regard, imnsho. So, leave the models alone, improve the textures and increase the level of their detailization.

Best Texture: Tristan Worst Model: Dominix "Coolest" Looking Ship: Crow 'ceptor (looks like it could do 3km/s in concrete) Most laughable attempt at a ship design: Apoc - looks like a half eaten baugette Most phalic ship: Iteron V Second most phalic ship: Armageddon Funniest Ship description: Apoc (only those with high standing to the emperor...and you have minnies flying them as their mining ship) Sleaziest ship: Megathron with its legs wide open....
I'm running out of categories here, add your own!! :)

A Picasso doesn't look good in everyone's eyes... I'm not saying that I would consider calling the ships art, but they are pretty nice designed. The Scorpion looks very high tech and would look very... wrong with a second wing. The Raven is the most majestic looking ship out there, especially when it moves and you see the trails. The Megathron may look good to most people, I liked it too, but since I own one by myself I miss my Tempest. Yes, my most favorite ship is the Tempest, in stats and design. It's dark, unique and evil I would like the Apoc design too if it wasn't made for that Amarr scum.
