= insta pop :(
Scanned a CNR, warped to 100 in my trusty covop/salvager and ended up righ in the middle of the toxic cloud. Despite having instabs and being almost aligned, it was over in less than 2 seconds.
Recon 3 needs a nerf!

Did you know the 4th midslot on an anathema can be used to fit a medium shield extender? |

Marauders don't leave wrecks. They leave slowly expanding clouds of cap boosters and metal scraps.

OMG, shields on an amarr ship? Heathen!! Real men hull tank. With the aforementioned cargo expanders.
Oh, and to those who think my post was tears - it took ~40 sec to find another lvl4 mission and recuperate the loss. Unfortunately, all my prostitutes were lost in the toxic cloud, so no gift to the mission runner this time. Sorry.

Do not meddle in the affairs of ninjas, for they are subtle and quick to bookmark.

You cant seriously claim that you are making more money ninja salvaging than doing the actual mission yourself?

I should've been more careful. It took ~40 sec to find another L4 mission runner. It took a while longer to actually salvage enough large carcasses to pay for what I lost.
With NS-ing it takes less time to scan down multiple mission runners AND salvage the wrecks than to actually run a single multi-room L4. And deadspaces are not much of a missioner cover anyway.
I don't get the advantage of LPs and corp standing increase but hey, at least this isn't boring.

Boring? Waiting for a times to end, fly to a spot and find some wrecks, fly to them, and press a button...nooooo, not boring at all :)
My Golem kills stuff so fast I barely keep up with it ( killing, tractoring, salvaging ). Thats not boring at all mate, you should try it some time :)

That's only half the story.
But we'll just leave it at that and move on.

As Iracham said, the only thing they'll find are the crap detritus of my salvaging/looting.

Recon 3 needs a nerf!
Who would take a CNR into recon 3/3? Was he baiting you?
I generally get something smaller and faster. A Broadsword with an AB works well.

Someone too lazy to change to a different ship just for one mission, probably. ----

Edited by: Cartheron Crust on 10/11/2008 09:19:22 Why don't you use your directional scanner to scan the hit before warping too it? Seriously, it only takes a few seconds to align the scan, set the angle and the distance. Then you see if there are wrecks there or not. IIRC there are no ships in that part of the Recon line right?

Yes. This is exactly what should be done. Scan down the target, warp to the closest celestial body and use the directional to probe for wrecks and/or drones.
If none show up for a while, it's either recon 3 or an abandoned craft. Wait a while longer, if the target doesn't vanish, you may try leaving your ship and checking out the location in your pod. Of course, bookmarking your covop/recon location first.
Lesson learned.
Why didn't the rest of you who lost MORE THAN ONE ship this way umm... dare I say... adapt? :)

I was going to make this point myself, especially since (in my limited scanning experience) you need to take at least one relatively close-up scan to pinpoint someone precisely, anyway. I suppose the vast majority of missions are relatively safe to warp into blind, so it often isn't a consideration.
Yes, there are no ships in Recon 3 of 3.
As an aside, it did occur to me the other day that there might be a way of using Recon 3 of 3 to destroy someone who is already there, if they are careless. I was doing the mission myself, and had a corpmate who wanted to see the tornadoes. I waited until the 10(?) waves of damage had completed, then told him to warp in, thinking it would be safe for him. A message appeared saying that someone warping in had restarted the waves again. This was not a problem for either of us, as we were adequately tanked, but I did wonder what would happen to someone who had a tank that was just strong enough for the 10 waves, or who had carelessly turned their tank off after the waves. Someone then accidentally or deliberately warping in would cause them problems. It would also be interesting to see what happens if, say, 5 people warp in. Would 5 lots of the waves start, one for each warp? If so, warping in with 5 shuttles would probably be enough to destroy all but the strongest tanks. You would lose the shuttles, but gain a lootable wreck, and without a security status hit. Even if possible, this might fall into the exploit category. Just pondering, though ;-)

Mr. Andropov,
I hereby serve notice that you are to edit your post immediately, as you are dangerously close to encroaching on my saying "Carebear Tears Fuel My Ship." Furthermore, Ninja Salvagers do not cry. In fact, our Alliance makes it a point to have our Pilot's tear ducts surgically altered upon activation of Membership.

Didnt you say something about waiting for a timer earlier? A lot of us don't, we just move in and salvage straight from your tractors; its so thoughtfull when someone tractors my wrecks to me. I don't want to set the world on fire |
