So the longest running sci-fi series is in search of a new actor to take on one of the greatest plot devices in history, regeneration. The 11th Doctor is coming my friends, who do you want it to be?

It doesn't matter who it is really. The two names that stand out most from past doctors are Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee and I doubt anyone could match their performances. IMO, the best two doctors there have ever been.

Edited by: Nuala Reece on 30/10/2008 11:37:56 Daily Telegraph has a list of possibles here Linkage Not sure about the wisdom of getting their journalistic inside info from a bookmaker though considering they've listed John Simm as a possible (great actor and played the Master really well, but wouldn't memorably playing a major character alongside the Doctor put him a bit out of the frame for coming back?). Well Paterson Joseph would be a great Dr imho but maybe because I really admire his stage work makes me biased. Also, its about time we move forward and regognise that we have extremely talented black/asian actors that can fill such a role. It cant be someone like Patrick Stewart as he carries too much baggage. You cant make it a comedian, you cant make it someone whos associated with previous roles in long running series, you cant make it a 'serious' actor because Dr Who needs a vibrance and energy that precludes such talents. It cant be someone like Samuel Jackson cos what really famous actor will want to give up 9 months of every year to make the programme? The potential list keeps dropping and dropping doesnt it?
The only name that stands out is Joseph, so i'll keep my fingers that he gets in the frame.

LOL, I saw this thread, and just knew it was you who started it :-)
I remember watching the end of the 'first' series with Christopher Eccles-cake, and right at the end when David Tennant appeared - you almost had an orgasm. That were fun.

I like the idea too - he was the best thing in the show Neverwhere as the Marquis De Carabas, which was very Dr Who in its feel (on tv at least) and I've enjoyed watching him in everything else I've seen him in since.

Comments to the story on The Reg mentioned Felicity Kendall, although this was challenged on the grounds that, as the Doctor, she'd be too easily defeated by putting an essential clue/tool on a high shelf Trinity Nova Mercenary Services Web Site - Nominated for the 2008 E-ON Magazine Awards |

Yeah, scottish here, and the lass in that library episode did say that the david form was the youngest she had ever seen him. Plus Billy would be the only person i could really see taking up the mark after this run we've had with Tennant. God-Damn epic is the only way to describe how its been

Chances of an American actor being cast in the role of either James Bond or Doctor Who is probably so small, we can only say its very very improbable.

I read she's in one of the specials set for next year. But I thought she was fine once she stopped trying to be funny and just started acting - all this anti-Tate stuff just seemed like people being a bit put out because Sally Sparrow wasn't brought back as the Doctor's assistant Trinity Nova Mercenary Services Web Site - Nominated for the 2008 E-ON Magazine Awards |
