Thanks for the updates, and for rushing them out the door. Though, I am not sure about thanking you for the second part.... I think you should have packed more in to help cover up the fact WIS wasn't ready as you had planned it to be back in January. It's actually kinda obvious that's what your doing; at least to me.
There isn't nearly as much love for the industrialists as you promised; though the Orca will be nice. UNfortunately, it will see limited usefulness as the belts in High Sec are already way over taxed due to CCPs ineffective techniques (lack of caring?) combating rampant macroing.
Certificates? Meh. Nothing there that you couldn't learn for yourself putting in the effort and time reading the forums; like the veterans have had to do since day one.
Hardware and server side upgrades? I think this is the first time I have EVER (in 5 1/2 years) seen them touted as a "major feature" for the players in an upcoming expansion. So, again, like I said, kinda needed some work on the ACTUAL "features" side to cover up things a bit better.
Speed/Missile Nerf? Still think this is the king of all the bad ideas I have seen in the 5 1/2 years I have seen bad ideas come down the pipe. But, whatever. No use in going on about it. It's getting forced down our throats whether the majority wants it or not. Hope it doesn't hurt your sub total too badly is all I can say.
Still, I guess it shows you guys are alive and actually trying to earn the money we pay you. (Note the "trying" as a key word.)
So, for what it is worth: "Thank you for going ahead with your "vision" of what the game should be like; and ignoring the rest."
I guess that my base objection to a full fledged "thank you" is that the devs act very much like they are OWED one. I.E. Like they are not already being PAID (and paid well) by us to do thier jobs? Meh. Whatever. Going back under my rock.

On a side note, how hard is it... seriously.
It's ridiculously hard, which is why we've had more than a year go by without releasing it, despite having a team at Transgaming working on it nearly full time, and the direct participation of our CTO (who is a graphics Wizard) assisting.
RyanD
...Wouldn't it have been easier and cheaper to just write a native OpenGL client by now? That would solve your performance problems and make your code fully cross-platform. WoW has had this forever.
If you want to kick Transgaming to the curb and start work on a native client now, I promise I'll patiently wait another year.

It looks like you may have missed a memo or two. StacklessIO and EVE64 were not deployed last summer
EVE Online: Quantum Rise is a staged delivery and began with the deployment of technology features, StacklessIO, EVE64 and hardware upgrades, as well as features such as the autopilot avoidance.
The main reasons we're deploying the expansion in stages is that we wanted to be able to measure a before-and-after of the technology improvements and also to minimise deployment risk.
As per the press release, on 11 Nov we will deploy the latter part of this two-part staged release.
That is great. The features all sound great and nice in this new patch what you call expansion but why is that i feel nothing from it? Maybe the nodes dont crash for 1500+ fleet battles but a simple 40 vs 60 fleet battle is still tottally unenjoyable for everyone! Why is that? Why do only you guys see those ""EPIC ****ING WIN"-fleet battles"?! Why is it that i feel nothing from what you guys advertise and all i see is marketing marketing and marketing and keep repeating the same words until someone really starts believing in it?
Or not because when you want to pvp with your absolutely not "EPIC ****ING WIN"-fleet of 60 pilots you just cant do crap for 30 minutes due to lag. And that is not a single occasion, that happens 8 from 10 times. Explorer please explain this to me.

Either way you view it, I'll wait until the patch notes are out before I judge it. If it really is 15+ pages then there's a lot more than the fluff posted on the teaser page. I want to dig in and read through them.

Originally by: Pottsey's Clone It's not a free expansion. Clearly you don't care about Eve and you expect a low quality of service. We are not whiner for whining sake. We are complaining as we care about Eve and compared to older expansion this one is very poor. It's not what we have come to expect form CCP. My worry is if CCP keep bringing out poor and small expansions the population will shrink and the game will die over time.
I remember that the expansions weren't bi-annual, but rather "when it's done." CCP has moved from "when it's done" to "get it out the door twice a year!" Yes it's a poor excuse for an expansion, with absolutely nothing but a ship I will never, ever fly (wewt for afk mining commander alt capship!). However, in my eyes, if they can deliver a huge expansion in the summer it's all fair. If not, I'll be concerned.
But that's not to say *nothing* is coming. The "speed nerf" is a pretty big item if only for the insane level on which it's altering the game. And the certificates, while absolutely useless to anyone who has been playing for 6+ months, is a pretty big addition if you look at the level they've integrated it into the game. Again, while that content may be useless to us, it will make EVE's learning curve a bit more forgiving and help retain some new blood. You do want new people to scam/kill/mine with, right?

So where is the tracking formula fix guys? We've shown you how to work with your current formula to correctly account for size vs. distance, to make 'signature radius' actually mean something, and de-couple the ability to hold a target in place with the ability to hit with close range turrets without the need to boost tracking by hundreds of percent...
So where is it? --------------

While I have only been playing a year or so now. I must say that aside from the huge update which was the new graphics, I cannot say that I've really seen anything "major" until now. Other than the fact that emperian age went and introduced some new faction warfare which to be honest I have not even taken a look at in the time that it has been out.
However, aside from the Trinity update.. this does seem to be a pretty big thing that they are doing. By ways of introducing changes to the GUI, redoing the graphics for what has been the most common of landmarks in Eve (stargates anyone?) Introducing a new ship type, a new form of resource production? (Now I do not know much about industry but it does seem like it has room to affect things), going to introduce the new server architecture to the rest of the game since last I knew this was only applied to Jita's server where it made a HUGE difference at least in my opinion.
As for the speed nerf, I've yet to see it in effect to really know how badly it will hurt pvp in general. But I somehow do not think that making it so that HACs and nanoed ships are no longer faster than interceptors (supposedly the fastest ships in the game) is a bad thing. Also on the speed nerf comment, what is meant by the return of blob warefare? In my playing experience it looks like blobs are already pretty common. As a result one with the speed nerf will see blobs which previously contained nanoed hacs, bses, etc containing blobs of ships which are from the get go meant to be faster. This being interceptors, frigates, and perhaps cruisers?
Again, perhaps I have not been pvping long enough (been actively pvping for 7 months now) but this does not seem like a horrible thing.
Not quite sure what else I can say in all of this, except to ask then. What really is a big update then? Because aside from Trinity which happened some time back if this is not an update I cannot really say I've seen anything else major added to the game :/
Also something I felt the need to point out which was a bit humorous. And really has nothing to do with the response to the upcoming expansion/patch/whatever you want to call it. So don't worry about reading it if you are not in the mood to see non-related stuff.
Originally by: Xayvius Thank you CCP for all the support over the past year. EVE online has progressed in leaps and bounds with the steady deployment of this fantastic expansion. I'm sure all the new content will change the player experiance, which is why so many people remain sceptic. Its hard to accept changes when being so used to the current build. However, I dont doubt your reasons for changes and hold belief that once again, for the 9th time, you shall deliver!
Best wishes to all at CCP
The word you meant is skeptic. While it brings some funny imagery to mind; if all these players were sceptic they would have bacteria growing in their blood stream and would be in dire need of medical facilities xD (Sorry I'm a bit of a geek ;_;)

Horrible patch tbh. That's nearly 1 year now since trinity (last decent patch) and now i must wait another 6 months for this game to improve. Sigh. No way in hell is this a major expansion, just something to put the shine on a terrible nerf. Can't polish a turd ccp.

Quote: ETC Secure Trading Evolved: A completely new in-game system that allows you to trade 30 day game time tokens for ISK, the in-game currency, with other players via the EVE market. CCP's revolutionary approach to enabling anyone to play EVE for a bit of elbow grease!
So does this mean there will be no more time code market? What happens to 60 day GTC? what about 90 day GTC too? Also what about inactive accounts? How can someone activate their account if everything is ingame unless your keeping the bazzar on the forums?
I predict if 60 days become extinct that the GTC market of 30 day GTC will inflate to about 20mil per day GTC or 600mil per 30 day. Should result in a lot of inactive accounts.

No, it means alternative methods of producing the simple reactions that up until now required the R64 moon minerals like Dyspro. The new reactions are inefficient compared to the R64 reactions but they allow for additional supply of those products so that there's not as limited components to produce T2 items with. The concept is the help drive down the price of T2 modules since the player base is maturing (more players using T2 items and ships) and there are more players but the number of R64 moons is effectively static. |

T2 modules cost next to nothing atm. 1 mill a module is nothing. Hopefully the ineficient process makes the cost of T2 go up and the prices of Dyspro go down. gl with that but seeing tech 2 modules cost like 200k would be rediculous. |

No, I am british and I will use the correct british spelling. Perhaps all the sceptic people who are complaining about the 'nerfing' in this expansion are getting EVE online confused with that other MMO, A WALK IN THE PARK online. I play EVE online because I love a challenge. And so I am in complete favor of any nerfing that CCP want to bring to the table. I want to feel as though I went to hell and a back to earn my medals, instead of having them handed to me on a nanofibre plate.

Seriously, we all love StacklessIO, EVE64 and the Jita avoidance/autopilot changes, I have the greatest respect for the performance dev team. Full marks.
The annoying issue here is the artificial *marketing* of QR. The technical upgrade should indeed go in asap, not on some marking type's fake event driven schedule. But to then try to make up a launchable event by retroactively saying they count some already released features (awesome tho they are) as part of the upcoming expansion is just poor. To withhold info (we hope, really) and make the features list look like the weakest expansion ever, just to have something to say at fanfest is designed to annoy the majority of the playerbase.
Please move away from artificial 'we must have two launches a year' from marketing, and work on expansions as they are required. Introduce the nerfs as they are needed, and promote the technical advances on their own merits, not use them to prop up an expansion that seems to be driven more by the calendar than the actual development cycle.
I think people have lost confidence in CCP PR, and I personally don't trust them press releases. I do still respect the developers, but with the communication restrictions in place it is really increasingly frustrating to communicate with them. No wonder some angst is being generated.
Anyway, here's to an awesome set of announcements at fanfest, and the fastest implementation ever to push it out on Nov 11! Many would rather you took until the 25th and got it rock solid if necessary, but good luck and I guess you can sleep afterwards.

FAIL CCP. This patch is more of the same coming from Devs who don't understand what EVE started as - a sandbox, dog eat dog, pvper game. I've spent over 50 hours on SiSi playing with your "changes" and you've got not idea on how people outside Empire or the Major Alliances play the game.
I'm waiting to see what sneek changes you put in during the last week before release but 2 accounts are in the balance.

What i don't get is why CCP likes to hear people whine.
removal of 30 and 90 days (whine) raising price of gaming time. (sob) removal of ghost training (Epic whine) GTC prices upp 200% (EPIC FAILBOAT WHINE) nano nerf (More whine) i don't really care i'm a cearbear ;)
well its a nice patch.
Also i don't consider fixing the LAG a expansion. Its a freaking patch that you had to do because of your original programing.
Stop calling it a free expansion THERE IS NO SUCH THING ASS A FREE EXPANSION.
Sorry CCP i just don't get it. Don't you want to make your player based gamers happy? It feels like you are doing everything you can to NOT do that.

What do the upcoming certs have to do with reading the forums like the vets? From what I understand, they will be a means of showing others your skill qualifications in-game, a highly useful tool for corp/alliance recruiters as well as being used for bragging rights. Sorry to quote you as an example, but others have made simular comments about them. They have nothing to do with planning ahead or training skills like Evemon (another comment, not from you). |
