Edited by: Daevonar on 06/11/2008 11:44:11 Inspired by the last post in the 'lights' topic, I had an idea...
A lot of people find they have spare power grid left over after fitting out a ship, what if this extra power could be used to boost the cap recharge rate.
So you have 200 spare power grid, which might equate to a -10% cap recharge time bonus.
Edit: Thinking about larger ships with huge powergrids, I need to amend the idea, it should be based on percentage of power grid left not actual power rgid. So maybe having 10% of our powergrid left equates to a -5% cap recharge bonus (or whatever turns out to be balanced
I dont know what the ratio of spare powergrid to cap recharge time decrease should be (obviously it would need testing to get a decent balance), but as an idea I think it works ok.
Given that the cap must be recharged from the power grid anyway, this kind of makes sense from a rp perspective. Dae.

LOL
but, thinking about it... how about very slightly reduced lock-on times for spare cpu use? Dae.

This would amount to a huge boost to nanos/speed tanks. The low slot speed modules require no powergrid or cpu, so ships with lots of them have lots of powergrid left. This would make it a lot easier to permarun your MWD, and thereby achieve high speeds for longer.

i would say make a module to effectively convert the extra pg into cap recharge and give it something big like 500-2k pg requirement. make it a low slot like cap power relays are.

in one of the more funny setups of a ship that i wont name (its a sekrit and makes me laugh even more in an "if they only knew" kind of way) i have roughly 30% pg free if i eft warrior your proposed 15% recharge time ontop of its capacitor wich thankfuly is just a cap recharger I i still can only fire my guns without the aid of cap booster for *drummroll* 6 minutes and 40 seconds
i find that rather amusing your proposal wouldnt even be overpowered!

Allow me to say 'bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah'.
Tip: nanoships will exist for about 5 more days.
The suggestion is not so bad, but it would naturally have to be fine-tuned. Having 5% leftover grid translating into a 5% cap recharge (or amount, better yet) bonus would be very nice.

I considered making the proposal be additional cap to start with but felt that the recharge would be more fitting, as the power grid is constantly producing power while the ship is active and some of its power must be going to recharge the cap.... I see the cap as essentially a large battery, having spare grid wouldn't make this bigger, but it would mean you have more power to pump in to the battery every second.

i see this as a sensible idea.
it makes RP sense; spare PG routed to the cap, spare CPU routed to the targeting.
it makes gameplay sense; if im flying an abaddon, i could use large tachyons with mutifreq's and be forced to use triple CCC's, or use mega beams with standards and be able to use the rig slots for something else more helpful.
it wont have much affect on nanos' since they will be abolished (and im still not happy about that) in the next patch.
i give my full support. - PvPers always say "GB2WoW". the message is that EVE is hard, and people just need to deal with it. wasn't it funny how when nano's started making it hard for *them*, that all went out the window? |

Seems some people like it... can anyone see a real issue with doing this at all?
Oh and bump because posts which aren't hotly contentious always drop off way too quickly ;) Dae.
