I can see what each ship type is nominally used for but I can't really figure out what the Dreadnought is designed/used for with so few high slots and a large capacity

Blowing up POS.
With the damage potential of dread sized guns, especially when in siege mode, you don't need many high slots but you sure do need plenty of cargo space to carry all that XL ammo, strontium and jump fuel.

They're essentialy huge self propelled siege guns which require lots of room for ammo and fuel, they have limited use since they can only really attack very big targets. Don't let the limited high slots deceive you, they have a module that acts as a damage multiplier.
Typically not a shiptype that's a useful goal to train towards, unless you're an alt in a big alliance.

Also note that Dreads are very expensive so like what has been mentioned before you only really need to train for themif you are into big alliance fleet warfare.
The average dreadnaught goes for 1.6 to 2.0 billion isk depending on the seller.
If you want to get into capital ships (support role wise) your better off in a carrier. as they are cheaper to replace (unless you lucky enough to be in a alliance that has a dread replacement program). When going to a party with wine, women, and song. Always acertain the vintage of the first two. |

Anyways, they're mostly just used for blowing up POS's.
The Moros is also good for station camping but that's not enough of a reason to train it.
They're necessary for large scale alliance warfare but that's about it.

there is 99% of eve, and then there is Chribba

sorry for the dumb question but can someone explain the roles of the different capital ships?
from this thread i'm seeing that dreadnoughts are used for POS warfare (or, mining if you're Chribba), but what are the specific (or general) roles of Carriers, Motherships & Titans? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Shammalamma Dingdong |

dread - large slow tracking guns, killing capitals and towers
carriers - fighter delegation, can control up to 15 fighters practically (thanatos) and delegate control of those fighters to other people in their gang, can also hold 1,000,000 m3 worth of assembled ships and 10,000 m3 of cargo space in their hangers, so they are a good logistics ship.
Mothership - like a carrier but it cannot dock, and costs 20 times as much (15 - 20 billion) it can hold lots of stuff but its mostly just a pimp-mobile for rich people, its not got the bang for your buck of the carrier, and motherships make for nice kills so they have a bullseye on them at all times.
Titan - jump portal generation, can create a jump portal and move entire fleets with it, its useful for logistics (jump portalling freighters) and as a doomsday platform, it costs between 60 to 80 (iirc) billion to get one

Edited by: Ivena Amethyst on 26/11/2008 11:09:07 the fact that it only has 3 weepon slots (4 on naglfar) doesen't matler since you fit it with a siege mod witch when activated gives a 625% damage bonus, it also lowers tracking by like 99% so in siege a dread is only capable of hitting stationary/very webben targets
