Edited by: Remy Ishiba on 07/11/2008 02:31:19 I've been doing Lvl 4 missions with a friend with me on salvage/support duty (since I'm the newb).
I started doing it with my Catalyst, which I really like, but I kept running out of room in my cargo hold.
I am now the proud owner of a Hurricane (Though I'm wondering why they threw in a free roll of duct tape with it ^_^). After loading up the lows with T2 Cargo Expanders, I've got 2041m3 of cargo.
So, my question (finally) is, am I going to need more space than that if I want to avoid making multiple runs? Any idea how much mission loot and salvage do you usually get during the big missions?
It's a pain in the arse flying back to the station and then warping to the first acceleration gate when you're already in the third or fourth room.
I haven't rigged it out yet and can have 2347m3, 2699m3, or 3103m3 depending on how many Cargohold Optimization rigs I throw on it. Or would I be better off just loading it with 3 Salvage Tackles?

The 2041 m3 of cargo in the 'cane should suffice for most missions. That's enough space to loot/salvage AE4, although on other missions like Damsel in Distress you'll need to dock and unload. I use a salvagecane, and it's beautiful.
I guess the question on the rigs depends on what your role is. If you're ONLY looting/salvaging, then sure consider adding a cargo rig and some salvage rigs to make sure you cover all missions. If you're like me and actually perform some mission support functions (i.e. target painting, webbing, shooting down frigates), then it's a bit more of a balancing exercise.

Add 3 salvage tackle rigs. They will improve your speed a lot more than the cargo expander rigs. The really space intensive missions (Kidnappers Strike), will take more than 3100 m3 anyway, if you take everything. ------------

Assuming it is strictly a salvage ship with no other role in a mission to play.
I strongly recommend at least 2X Salvage Tackle I rigs. The time you save on each wreck will be noticeable. Nothing wrong with 3X Salvage Tackle I if you choose.
For the third rig there is no harm in having a Cargohold Optimization I but they are rather expensive.
If your running a 100Mn Afterburner a Capacitor Control Circuit I could turn out to be your best choice.
Alternatively if you don't like the cane to be so ponderous in movement you could throw an agility rig into that third slot.
Lots of choices any of which are good so long as they suit your needs and put a smile on your face.
As for actual cargo space. I think the other reply addressed it rather well. I can affirm that in most cases you will do just fine with the Expanders in low. And the few times you exceed your cargo it really isn't that difficult to make the occasion trip back for a BM'd jetcan. |

Ok, all of you who have replied are officially awesome in my book. Thanks much for the great and quick replies.
I didn't realize that the Cargo rigs were so expensive.
I am planning on running a 100MN afterburner, so I will EFT check the possibility of using a Capacitor Control rig. Thanks for that idea.

Even with a 100mn AB, you shouldn't need a CCC rig. Also consider how long it takes to turn with the 100mn AB. ------------ Improvize. Adapt. Overcome. |

If you are looting a single room a nice trick is to eject most of the bulky loot (cap boosters, unnamed weapons and so on) in a jetcan and to tow it behind you with a tractor beam.
That will allow you to exceed your maximum load capability without leaving the mission (and keeping the best items like salvage and named loot in you ship hold). With this system you usually leave behind 1 can every 2 rooms in the missions with the highest volume of loot.
If you bookmark the jetcan you can, after mission delivery, warp directly to the jetcan as the gates disappear but the mission wrecks and cans will remain. so you will not need to navigate 2 or 3 gate after delivering a single load of loot.

You can also place a Huge Secure Container in your cargo hold to get an extra 450m3 of space. Simply drag from the wreck to the container.
Cheers, Arrs

With the 100mn AB I fill the other mids with cap rechargers, no problem at all with cap.
Gone Berserk gets over 3000 m3 in loot/salvage, so two trips is necessary also.

Don't worry about the cost too much. You're likely to pay for your whole setup in a few missions worth of loot and salvage. Also don't worry about being cap stable with the AB. You'll only need it sporadically to get to different wreck areas, and you won't need to perma-run it. Not like you need to orbit a wreck going 600 m/s or anything

Edited by: Hobbes277 on 07/11/2008 23:47:41 Edited by: Hobbes277 on 07/11/2008 23:47:03 For cetain missions such as Gone Berserk, Worlds Colide etc I use a salvage Sigel with my alt.
highs: 1x savalger/tractor Mids: 10mn ab, 2x remote siganl booster(for WC allows u to target NPC from warp in) Cap charger Lows: 2x cargo expander II and 3xnanofibers Rigs 3X salvage
top speed of 480 and well over 3000m of cargo space.
I find the extra time it takes to salvage is made up in time saved not having to go back to station and getting and getting a hauler.
For all others I use a Hurricane or with my alt harbinger.
The catalyst is still the best L3 salveger though.
I would love it if they would add some more highs to the sigel though.
